Hi all! ..so here something that came out when just painting away with no aim at all... love that.

Done in CS2 from sketch to finish, so hit me with some c&c :)

Nice values. It seems the proportions of the composition are a little weird. Could the figure carry more importance? The background in the upper right corner seems like a missed opportunity for something cool...

I have to disagree with the previous statement - I love the graphic simplicity of this. The rendering could be "pushed" bot I think its pretty tight as is : )

I registered just to comment on this painting. It is awesome. I love the style of the imperial age with a sort of futuristic setting... great painting, I liek the gun, and the way hes perched on the ledge.

Classic retro feel for sure... lovely palette as well. Nicely done. My only crit would be that the Figure could be a little bigger, right now his scale is competing with the BG ships. He just doesn't seem as important as he should. These posters were all about forced perspective, FG characters etc... this is somewhere in the middle.

Still... a great piece.

awesome painting...just to add you have 2 tangents...with the sword and the elbow touching the middle jets' stream...

i like the composition and the colors you chose ...
but the cloud(s) in the background are a bit too solid for my taste ... you should try to render them a little more fluffy and transparent here and there, right now they remind me more of solid structures

Very good :)
The sword is a nice touch.

Looking at his hat and the sights of the gun make me wonder: Does the gun have an internal scope?

Thanx all for the great C&C!

Rulon Cynron - Thanx! I agree about the upper right corner being a bit empty... but at the same time I wanted the piece to be very "simple" and desolated in a way.

se7en - thanx!

Slappy Moose - THANX! hehe thats the coolest comment so far.. -"I registered just to comment on this painting", makes me 2 feet taller :)

Verithin - Thanx! Im very pleased with with palette also and i totaly agree with the size thing about the character. It was something I was thinking of in the final stages too, but I got to the point when it had to be left alone for a while.

bByaN - Thanx and aargghh..! I only just noticed the thing about the elbow-jetstream-sword-thing. hehe, thats why c&c is so important, thanx again.

azghoul - Thanx! I really went for the solid look on the clouds. ..its good we all dont have the same taste :)

dkounios - Thanx!

Dayon - Thanx!

stalsby - Thanx!

Yeah, I just have a comment about the sighting on the rifle. Looks as if he's bracing himself for a big kick from the rifle (doesn't want scope bite) as if he's afraid of his rifle. The stance is very dramatic- he's going to fire off that last well aimed shot hoping to get a kill, putting his body out in the open just for that last chance... Nice work, and yes I know- scope isn't on top of the rifle..... But that is my comment.

awesome painting...just to add you have 2 tangents...with the sword and the elbow touching the middle jets' stream...

that's what i was thinking too.

if anything, i'd add a bit more lighting [with a sharp edged brush] to the rock he's perched on, and to the soldier himself. push him firmly into focus.

that said, i like it a whole lot as it is. great job.

I like your second illustration. This is simple but interesting detail.
I think u need more detail in first illustration. What u say.

Over all nice work.
