View Full Version : Mon's sketches - Painting demo - Updated! Oct11

Hello everyone
Here are a couple of things I've done when I'm not working on "serious" stuff (concept work for video games). These latest sketches pretty much revolve around me pressing every conceivable button in either Photoshop or Painter, always looking for that "magic" button. As it turns out, there are several of those (or rather, you need to find the appropriate combination of buttons). They can make shit shine.
If you have any questions regarding any of these feel free to ask. Hope you'll enjoy them, and I'll try to maintain this thread to the best of my ability :)
EDIT: Oh, and that linesketch is not mine, it's the work of the awesome Joakim Hellstedt. He kicks ass, and his drawings rock. He let me put some color on to that linedrawing, so I thought I'd include that here.

That is just bloody wicked!
Is there any 3d as a base in there? some of them looks straight off a render and comped on top. If not this is some serious amazing 2d work man. and If so, its very good too.
cheers man

Amazing work!
How do you go about gettin that rich texture? Papers in painter, scanned in textures?
Also, what noise, blur, or whatever else filters/techniques are you using to get the characters to blend off into the background?

Very excellent indeed. Must say though, knowing your other stuff with a more painterly style, I chirped with joy finding your sb. Left me a little dissapointed seeing this texture-heavy stuff. Don't get me wrong, it's nice also. Just saying... :)

I love how you can take the most abstract of shapes, and then gradually turn it into something so photorealistic. It is such a great inspiration just to sit back and watch the paintings unfold on the screen and the only thing that dampens the mood is that one feels guilty for not working harder. Keep up the great work, and if you should find it in your best interest to share some more of those tutorials then please do.
Best wishes

Hello
I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead with some new stuff that I've done.
I've been away from creating art almost completely for several years, not counting the odd speedpaint or paintover for work now and then. It's only a few months back since I started focusing on getting back into the swing of it, and only now do I realize how much I've missed it. I won't ever let go of it again like that, it's too precious of a thing to be wasted.
I'll start small here and then maybe add more work as I go (there's plenty more).
Looking forward to any comments you might have! I'm looking to develop and go deep on a couple of things here and anyone who can help me find my way is a saint.
All the best, thanks for looking!
