Finished up this painting. This is probably as far as I'll go with it. I would imagine I can still learn from crits and apply to future work:^^;:

The colour looks great! I think you have a neat way of reendering the metal.
The bg looks terrible though...is that the cloud filter in PS? It clashes with the way you've rendered Ironman. Could you try and do something in the same feel in the background? Perhaps long slashes(rectangles/triangles)of colour?

The PS clouds filter is really boring. If you're going to use it, it should be as a base for a lot of subsequent modification.

Thanks for the crits....
That is not PS cloud rendering (I rarely use SF tools)...it is just some quick and big brush strokes. The only purpose it has is to break up the pure blackness going on.

 Just don't bother with the filter next time. A solid backdrop is perfectly acceptable if your focus is the character.
As for the character itself, the stance is fairly stale. It's also one of those "been done a million times" kind of positions. In general, you should try to steer clear of common poses or flat, lifeless ones. Your character is only half finished however, as you have only started detailing and coloring one side.
Keep working on it and post your progress.

I think that whatever was used to create the red clouds, Elwell's comment still stands. It's too uniform and boring, especially for something that takes up so much of the composition.

Well I'll be a monkeys f#cking lying uncle:
I just took this pic to kinkos this morning and low and behold....There was friggin' cloud rendering all over the friggin' background.
My apologies for lying my ass off. I totally forgot I rendered clouds and then attempted to simply paint over them to get rid of them.:spam:
As far as the pose. I realize it has been done a load of times. I chose it because it is the hero pose....stale yet classic at the same time.
Thanks for the tips folks. This pic is done with. I'll use the advice in future projects.
Much appreciated
