IN STUDIO (TITANES)

Oil on canvas
240 x 220 cm,
started at 1999
finished at 2006

May be it was one of more difficult artwork for me because there are many figures. All of them are mot from nature but from my mind.

At this artwork I would like to realize a possibility of the artist to show movement of bodies in different foreshortenings without an emphasis on the picturesque decision. It is wide a field of action for the artist.

The picture refers to very simply: «In studio». And it is valid. We see that the artist sits in his studio and writes a picture “Fight of titanes with Olympic gods”. A lion seats at his legs. It is my zodiac sign and my favorite animal, in which all - both force, and beauty, and plastic. He writes an artwork from Ancient Greek myths.

Titans have intended to overthrow Olympic gods. But gods are immortal. The end is predetermined. The figure of the goddess of victory Nike crowns a composition. She "holds" the top part of a composition. From the center to a bottom you can see the chaotic arrangement of figures strengthening the moment of intensity. Under Nike you can see Zeus that starting up fiery arrows. The calmness of gods and confusion of titanes brings the moment of an emotion pressure in a picture. All characters concerning to this action in a picture are collected together. It is awful dog Cerberus, horses of the god of war Ores, the wood god Pan on a donkey, which his shout paralyze titans, and a terrible jellyfish, and all 12 Olympic gods.

It will be wonderfull for me to read your comments, critique and questions about this painting. And welcome to my gallery http://www.painterilya.com/indexE.htm

I really like this piece. One thing that bothered me is that the gigantic angel behind god. Maybe have him the same size as everyone else and have more angels behind god to show his mightiness.

many elements of this work disturb me greatly. the horse's eyes are truly terrifying. It pleases me to see someone working on paintings of such grandeur and depth. Are all of your paintings based off of greek/judeochristian religions?

There are quite a few anatomy/proportion issues, particularly with the arms, and alot of your figures seem to be disjointed, not "one". Though, I was just thinking about you earlier today. I was wondering what had become of you! I do so enjoy your work.
