Ok, so this raises an interesting question, and I'd desperately like to avoid the Cleaner debacle that happened in COW.
Does "music store" mean a purveyor of musical instruments, or is it more like a place to listen and buy CD's? (Or the alien equivalent... I had some neat ideas about listening stations, etc.)

As Long as I'm mod-ding . I am amenable to any interpretation. as long as it includes
1. ALIEN
2. MUSIC
3. STORE
So go for it!!!!
I obviously went the intrument route...but either is great. At the moment as the only entry, Im winning

I just started mine. If I can manage to get a scanner up and running, I'll post against you!
... wish me lots of luck, I have one broken scanner, and another that doesn't have drivers under linux. It's a double-pronged challenge, make art, then turn it digital!

I won't have time because my day job stuff is all backed up due to Thunderdome. I don't think the topic is a problem.

The topic is great... should have a WIP up tonight...
And I wasn't clued-in in time to get into the Gods TD, dammit, I'm pissed... The entries are looking fantastic.

robmorfin, dragon4lunch - Thanks! This is a good one... lotta fun to be had with this one... but...
... I'll take posting instead... come on people... Post! Postpostpostpostpostpostpost! I want to see some serious ass-kicking in here.
This is an incredibly cool topic... you have to figure out how an alien race HEARS something... just THINK about it! What kind of culture does it have, to create something like music, and what would it invent to make sound... what are it's "CDs"... what does a store have to do to "sell" its music... does it even have ears???
POST!
This is the first time I've been back to EOW in a long time and the first two topics have been great! Chaos, thank YOU...

You're right Corrick! I also spent some time today thinking about how an alien race might do commerce (the store element). How do they identify themselves? What kind of counters do they use to keep track (money, cards)? What kind of device will they use to carry the music away with them (if it is a store that sells the music rather than the instruments)? A bag? A flash memory device?

Ok, first entry ever, it's not finished, I'll try to finish it, but I always end up not posting for that reason.

Year 30,504 in a parallel universe, galaxy of Kratong, the planet Urzilk is mainly known for it's musical culture, colonies are designed as concert halls with the only purpose of selling music and sounds, no cd's or mp3's, no musical instruments, the colony itself is the music instrument and you as an expectator don't only hear it but also get to live it, feel it and smell it (this is the main ingredient for the different experience & the reason why it can't be recorded-piracy problems are over).
Thanks Corrick & Chaos for instructions on how to post the images.

By magic...
... or you can post them to an image hosting site (I use Photobucket, but Imageshack is good too), or your own website, and then link the image URL using the icons in the "Reply to Thread" box... the little mountain icon.

Heylo all,
I'm very sorry that I didn't have time to post WIPs on this, since the C.O.W. ate most of my time (that, and work, of all things).
Fun stuff, these exercises. I've never drawn so much digital stuff in such a short time. Thanks so much for holding these activities, CA!!!
Cheers!
Mac
Description:
Zick works at the local music store, and on any given evening he can be found playing "Those Lazy Gray Blues" on his collector's edition-genuine Earth artifact, a Trumpet that once belonged to Harold Zinski of Paduke, Iowa. Harold tried to explain to his Dad what happened to his trumpet, but it still cost him two weeks on restriction...

Updated the ever lovin' crap out of the WIP... yeah!
McFilms - Great instruments... and a hologram! Everyone loves holograms.
robmorfin - I can't wait to see this one... your sketches look pretty involved.
chaos - Musee d'extra-terrestre? I dig the variety and atmosphere...
More! More posts!

Corrick:
Thanks.
Maybe the hologram was a bit too cliché, I dunno. I might have been better off doing a display of Brittney Spears PEZ despensers... (hmmm...)
Still, outside of a dose of glitz/bells and whistles, I guess it isn't exactly ground-breaking. I was so torn between doing "out of this world", and doing something familiar yet not Earth of today. Every trip to a "traditional" music store not catering to anything but classical instruments had me feeling the following:
1. It was always a place that was practically pristine.
2. It was more quiet than a library (odd, for a music store, eh?).
3. The counter had virtually nothing on it besides a cashbox/register. (I guess one doesn't see many posters or cutouts for grand pianos or saxophones.)
So, being the rebel I am, decided to present an Alien, playing Music in a Store. (I know, I know... yawn!). Ah well, it was a hoot to do no matter what.
Now your stuff, ROCKS!!! I want to learn how to get digital "painterly" strokes like that to form my thoughts. Not to mention the "concept" side of the art, and how to spoon feed my brain to stay outside of the box when imagining...

Don't break ground. It won't be appreciated. Use muted colors, half-ass the sky (if any), and put a "hot babe" in there. That's the standard formula.

Man, I don't know. The Thrixiprin, I mean, they try so hard to fit in. It's not so bad now as when they first crashed, I guess, but you still see this sort of thing every day in Ixiptown. There's some things they just don't understand about us. Like eardrums.
Okay, this is my first image ever on ConceptArt and I hope I'm doing the right thing here. There are some problems here that are mostly due to lack of time, and some others to lack of experiance. The shadows, those are experiance things, and how weird the human looks. I must have redrawn that damn dirty ape a hundred times. The other thing, though, is I wanted to put more detail into the background (some other patrons, some other merchandise) but decided instead to spend what time I had on the foreground. My original alien was a very weird creature that looked like a bush. I decided early on to scrap it and go instead for a less strange alien that would allow the veiwer to think about the situation. The alien you see is based (very loosely) on Larry Niven's "monks." The paper the alien is holding is a tutorial made by CedarSeed of Deviant Art. It's searching, but it just can't seem to reference the right emotion to match to its patron's expression.
