hey CA!! hope alls well with yous! i have been meaning to post some things for a while, however i have been swamped with work, whih is, of course a good thing :D its been hard to keep up with personal endeavors due to the round the clock schedule, so most of this stuff is a couple months old, but i havent posted it here, so its still newish.

this first one is big, like 50 something by 40 something oil on canvas. took about 4 months to complete off and on. i used myself as the crackhead, for the lack of a better model. i also included a couple close up shots... the idea behind this painting is that these big gluttonous things follow their derelict hosts around and act as a parasite of sorts. they wear the vices and tools that have driven thier hosts to where they are now, so depending on what the person has done, the adornments of their parasites would be different. they have screws for arms to push the visual symbolism of addiction and how it digs in. anyway i could go on and on, but you get the point. i had a lot of fun on this one. its the longest i have ever taken on a painting.

next we have some concepts of hookers and a pimp and some wierd mosnters all chillin that i did on my spare time.

then theres this other liquor store painting i did a couple months back. its small as shit, like 8x14, oil on panel, done from photo.

then i have this future night scene i did, using a 3d base. i tried to keep it spontaneous, and more suggestive. its so much fun to paint lights in photoshop!

i drew these plants a few weeks ago and colored it in photoshop. just more playing around with shit, but i kind a liked how it turned out....

also, we have been doing an alla prima head painting thing at the altilier for the past few months, and i have been desparately been trying to get my sorry ass back in practice painting heads! damn its amazing how rusty you get when you dont do it for a while. these are a few i did on my spare time as practice that dont totally suck ass. i have been really trying to focus on simplifying and getting them shapes closer. so hard i tell ya!!!
self portrait and close up from life, spent like 2-3 hours on this one

then sam brown, from life, about 2.5 hours

then a portrait of chris hatala, our animation director at MB, and an old dear friend of mine....
then all the old thread madness that i delelted the descriptions to and am too lazy to re write them :P

and thats all i gots for now. hope you like -c36

Wow coro, this was a killer update on your stuff, like the scenes you've done, fantastic colors, and the painting from the reff is intresting, very instense colors, the colors of the sky and the light inside the bus, awesome.

The website is easy to look around in, nice design. Good choice to split it up like you did. It works fine for me, no bugs.

Hugs!

Hey coro theese are fantastic!

They have some issues though (in my opinion of course)
1) http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=87241&stc=1&d=1170492207 that one looks good and all but there is some areas that makes it look "flat". The door on the car for an example, it's very undefined and lacks a little more of a stonger/brighter value.
-Maybe open the other door too?
-The characters are standing a little odd, might be the similar poses that does it
-Something about the grounds darkness that throws it off.. maybe add more gray and brighten it up a little?

2) http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=87242&stc=1&d=1170492235
-Looks very good and awesome colors BUT the placement of the characters are a little bad. The robots on the right kinda disapears amongst the tree and posts.
-The robots poses are very stiff...i know that probably the robots would move like a stiff but rotate them, change the stance a little maybe?
-The guy/girl has a boring pose too, i don't really like the fact that the feet are placed next to eachother...kind of kills the action.
-Maybe add some strong sun light along the right side of the houses ? maybe some in the tree to guide the viewer?

3)http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=87243&stc=1&d=1170492253
- Damn cool! love the format!
- There's something about that big spaceship that enoys me.... i think it needs some more dark areas. Taking the distance fog into acount and all i think i'm right... because if the rest of the picture would follow the distance fog that the ship follows there would be less contrast all over and less visibility.
- I kinda miss the strong blues from the middle and leftside of the picture over to the right side. On the right side it feels very grey.

The rest is smashing !!

Sorry for the hail storm o' critique....felt like it...

cheers and as always, i'm a big FAN!!

your work is gangster! the paintings have some kickass colors and composition. i also like the graphics alot!

the websites looking great, fucking fantastic work and a clean layout! a few things i noticed is the images are really huge and you could probably add a "click to enlarge" thing to them. also, you might consider combining your sub categories, for instance in concept art: have enviros, tech and characters all on the screen just divided by headers or something. i always feel that on someones portfolio site you should only have to click once or twice to see the goods.

awesome stuff.

Yo Coro !

I must say it was well worth waiting for this update.
I fell in love with your oils and sense of color, the first time I laid eyes on your stuff!
Damn!! that bus painting is great. How the hell do you get them ( the colors )
to pop out soo much !? Also, the way you break down your image is very cool
The details you choose to leave out are obvious but never distract from the important
stuff. I would love to see you paint again and talk about that particular "desicion making" part
It's great that you do those night scenes, they have lots of mood in 'em.
Makes me wanna go out and hit the city :)

Thanks for your never stopping influence and inspiration
( gonna check your site now )

All the best

Hey Coro, nice to see your a regular now dude :P
I like your twist of your more traditional environs mixed with the robots. You should definatley do more of these :)
I also like the fact that you dont seem to stick to one style, You have your tradish, then concepty and then graffiti and mix around, its all fun ^_^

Btw id just like to say *Asspat Alert* When I looked at your sketchbook in san fran, that has to be the damn friggin greatest sketchbook ive ever layed eyes on, I was dribbling on every page.. So ignore the odd wet patches on it :x

Your gonna have to post up another one of your tutorials man, the guache looks like alot of fun to play with. Did I hear you use some form of alcohol type thing to stop the pages from wrinkling?

I jumped when I saw the robots at the fire in the panorama, I just drew something very similar but in 60's scifi style. Compositionally that piece is kinda scattered I feel. The spaceship doesn't really do it for me. The bent car is nice but the addition of the regular sports car seems odd.

yessss!!! time to sit down and type out a buncha replies!:$
im stoked you guys are feeling the new site...im relieved
to finally have some more current stuff up now(wheW)
so to dive right in:

Justin Oaksford : hahah right. thanks dude. hope yer well.:)

se7en_: thanks man. yeah the juztapoz thing kinda came outta nowhere.
i had fun on those. hope yer doin good theez days brotha.

zanzan : hey right on my friend! you been burnin it up lately! i love the stuff you have been doing.

Boogieman : thanks man. i do love me painting in oils. its nice to know people feel them.

twoheaded : haha yeah that switch was cool to paint in its simplicity. the blue is what mae me paint that bus scene.

Bomba :thanks brotha. im workin on it! :)

Vulgar`: right on dude. ill damn sure try!

zao75231: thanks!

James Kei : thanks hon.

natethegrate : thanks man! it was nice to just kind of let lose and draw just for design sake. i will post more as i do them . i promise!

PiTx3L: thanks man.

Jas0n 0n a Bike : yes and no. alot of his work is extremely detailed, which i do appreciate, however i like simplifing and being
a bit more graphical and calligraphic in approach. i dont think i could pull off work like his. mine are hardly that accurate or photorealistic.
i do really like his stuff though. its amazing.

Oblio TWIIIINS!!! hope you are well frate. thanks for your swweet words.

Mandryk: thanks a ton dude. you know that means tons to me comin from you. i have an auto updater now so it should be easier to keep updated. yessss!!!

Gerbil Fetus: christ man what a great name for an avatar. i have been painting for like 8-9 years now, and i am mostly self taught in that
area. i will post more as they come. i promise.

Skeiff thanks man. haha you are funny. i am proud to be on your ipod, just so you know.

DavePalumbo: dude that piece was so funny how it worked out. i painted the two guys, then it just kept getting wierder and wierder. it was a good exercise
in the end i think. it was a landmark personal achievment to find i could paint a hotdog stand out of my head.

dkounios: thank you sir!

NateVanDyke: thanks sweetheart. yeah that happens sometimes in my shit. it makes no sense considering im from texas, and you dont get much more american than that!
god bless freedom.

blanquish: thanks! yeah i been using that artrage some lately. i like how it handles! more homeless people on the way!

Alday.J : thanks man! did someone say stars :)

FOX!!! thanks man. i have been waiting too :) hope things are well with you.

Devvv : thanks alot!

Prometheus|ANJ: hahah. your feelings are correct. that piece kind of evolved so there wasnt really alot of attention paid to composition in the beginning.
i just kept throwing shit in til i couldnt stand to look at it anymore. more of just a silly piece.

Jedmo : oh ill make you feel funny. :)

rodrigo! : thanks man i try. its nice to hear you see an evolution. its hard for me to tell sometimes. i keep tryin tho!!

Mr Man : i am extremely regular actually. i try to be versatile and open to different approaches and aesthetics. we are all creatures of habit, and as
artists its important to our growth to keep trying ot break habits. glad u liked my books. i stopped working in them a couple years back. too busy with
other things. id liek to get back into it some though.

VashTheStampede : thanks. i like wierd.

Brendan N: hahah you are too kind man. thanks!

SprayNation : shit! i still need to crit you :) i have probably thought about it like adozen times over the past couple months. hope you are well. im putting you on my list of things to do this weeek!

V.S.: thanks! :)

Art_Addict : thanks brother. yeah i think im finally starting to get painting these things. but its because i have painted dozens of them. it gets really easy
after a while. mileage is the key to understanding it. go paint! you will be amazed at how easy it gets after a while. there is no secret to it.

Jens: thanks man! hope things are well with you!

chickadee : thanks. :)

RasselTassel : thanks man! how are you doing man? hope everything is good with you.

Ryan DeMita : good points on the site. i did want to separate out a bunch of the subsets though because i want the room to grow, and my last site felt too generalized
i thought. but the enlarge thing is defintiely something i should implement. thanks!
\

csteingart : thanks alot dude!

Jason Snair: right on brovah!

asoir: thanks man. i just let my hand go whereit wanted with those, and was fairly pleased with the result. i want to play more with that approach.

hurricane : dude totally appreciate your comments. always good to see what people see wrong with stuff. so to answer and clarify... i actually really like the freshness of the marks on the first one. it was what
kept me from rendering it out too much. i gotta point out too that the characters in that pic are facing opposite directions
one has a gun, and one is reading a map. perhaps from a distance they might be similar, but perhaps im missing something as to the similarities in their poses, outside of the fact that they are both standing. also,
i have to disagree about the value comment, as i was aiming for a more realistic value arrangement, and if i zoom out it feels
more or less good to me. if i pumped up the contrast i think i would lose some of the low to mid values which would detract somewhat. same goes for the ground statement. too much contrast and youll be lookin to much at the ground.
you would be amazed at what keeping things in similar value arangements will do if you paint cityscapes alot.ill give you the door comment though. my tech and perspective totally sucks.

now on the second one,i agree with the poor placement. the robots are definitely stiff. now for the characters pose, my intention was for it not to be an especially dynamic pose. but i can see your point.
now for the sunlight comment, man i tried, but i couldnt make it work. beyond my comprehension i guess. after a couple failed attempts, i decided to keep the sunlight on the top of the pic. i stand by my decision on that one :)

for the third one, i actually paid alot of attention to that, and took special care to make sure it sat in the right value range according to its distance, and local color. i mean, i could be wrong, and probably am.
thanks for the crits. its always good to be reminded of how far i still have to go. hope things are well with you. what you workin on these days?

nicolas: thanks my man. thats alot nicer than what i say when you post new work. normally i just cut myself to dull the pain of my impotence. hope things are good with you bro.

e338 : its all about controlling value. thats how you get your lights to pop.

J-K : hey thanks mate. you are no slouch yourself! keep up the beautiful paintings!

Orifice : thanks man. this ca place is pretty cool. im glad i stumbled on to it :P

guterrez : right on dude! yeah i work on panels. either hardboard or maple panels that i gesso and sand myself til they are super smooth, like a babys bottom. the edges and subtlety you can get on that kind of
ground is insane.

steak-tron :i want to drench you in sumthin. kisses. or baby oil. maybe both.

Living Rope : monseur ROPE!!! thanks honey. hope everything is well with you, and that you are enjoying all the delicious croissants and cheeses
your fine city has to offer. hugs!

j a k e : thanks man! you are most welcome to link me. glad u like the nu site!

The way you use colour is beyond my understanding. If i were painting the exact same piece, i would never put the same colour as you. When I saw you painting in Montreal it hit me like a brick in the balls. I should never put the colour I think should go there. For example, the blue you got for the sky in the bus piece is freakin' unbelievable! It's fucking PERFECT! Ok enough with the ass pats...keep us posted, you keep me going everyday mate!

sweet man, great stuff, always good to see you post more. what do you use for the coachwork we see in the plug painting? is it original designs or do you have a catalogue of examples that you splice together? ive been using a few different decorative fonts and erasing/altering the letters whilst still retaining the details for my digital work, but itd be good to get something that did the job a little more satisfyingly and more diversly. sorry if its been asked already.

Coro, this stuff is awesome as usual, man. I really like how you can make something really ordinary that people don't usually notice into a great painting. My favorite piece is the pink buss. I don't know why, but I really dig it. Thanks a lot for sharing these.

hey guys! i igured since this thread got bumped from the depths, i should reply and maybe post a few more things...

hurricane: no probs bud. im always happy to explain why i do things, there is usually a conscious decision behind it, of if there wasnt i can at least try to explain why i did something. either way i, my understanding of it is better when i gotta explain it.

Molly: thanks mollyx! hope you are well these days.

stalsby: thanks brudda!

Aleksi: likewise, likewise, and likewise. man i cant wait to chill all night and talk shit again!

flaptraps: thanks.

SamBrown36: mmmmm. now for some of my special lessons.....

ooga booga: my too! sorta.

Idiot Apathy: thanks man. keep up the great work! you be killin it these days

romance: no prob :) hope you are well. didja start your job yet?

egerie: hahaha i know i know. it took forever to try to figure out a simple system of breaking the work up. this felt like the least amount of clicks possible for everything i wanted to show. the first draft was way worse :)

redehlert: haha thanks man

I0N: thanks man. to answer your question, i work mainly in photoshop, and for a few of these at the end i took em into art rage. pretty simple and low tech, but i was fairly happy withthe results.

ashrumm: thanks dude. i try to cover the bases, and keep pushing. the sketchbooks are old and are archived on my old site. i stopped working that way when it became clear that technique was going to define me. i dont want to be an illustrator known for a specific technique. at that point you are nothing more than a novelty i think.

Chandan: thanks a ton man. color is easy. its there, all you gotta do is look for it, and look for harmonies. it just takes lots of practice, but i think anyone can do it.

stoph: i use mostly fonts and some hand done stuff for the fancy decorations.

skvv: haha thanks man. just keep pluggin. thats all you gotta do.

michaelh: thanks man :)

draw: well im glad i could be of service :D

Niveli: those are words :) thanks dude!

Viktor: im glad you pointed that out actually. living here in sf has made me aware of so many beautiful scenes that would be mundane to most. its something im always trying to find in my work, to find the beauty in the filth..hope you are doing well dude.

dns2k haha thanks man, hope you are well..

manji: thanks and thanks to you for replying!

Deltron, thanks to you too brotha!

again, my humblest thanks for al 0f you who replied. keep keepin it.-c36

I love your cityscapes (and bums!), not only because of the amazing technical quality, also because they feel so real.
I've seen many orcs/spaceships whatever... and too many boring stilllives with plants, brushes etc... What you are painting may be an obvious choice (because its part of our everyday life) but its in fact something I rarely see these days.

I feel like a douchebag for missing this the first time around, it's good seeing what you're up to holmes. As a crit, I would try to paint more of those lovingly crafted demon wieners into your paintings, possibly even your landscapes. I mean these are good, but I think they would really send some of these pieces soaring.

Hello... if you don't mind I would like to say some of my observations about your paintings ...if you do mind ...well I will learn my lesson.
Few words in general about your art... I think the strongest of your art are paintings from life and particularly your good eye fro right value and temperature range, unity of the all objects and BG.
When I close my eyes and say Coro's art I will see your still life with a garlic, onion, bong, tubes with paint, your fire escape with very truthful choice of colors and tones and shades. That's what I think is the most beautiful in your art and I think that's what you appreciate in painting the most... Delicacy of colors, their influence on each other, effect of light on color.
The other very appealing feature is your confident and playful brush strokes... for example in your SP they create a certain mood on their own... I would call it exactly this name... playful, whimsical, entertaining... they kind of lead eye around the form and making this motion almost as a game, exciting. In that painting they are even much more charismatic than the face expression...
I don't know what you like the most... but I think that you are a realist in art... your still lives and landscape and scenes from contemporary life have the biggest impact on me, they are most personal, they carry your own taste and soul and it seems that you put a lot of thoughts in them searching for right effect... your effort is charismatic and does effect my perception.

Even when you paint futuristic scene with horse riders moving fast in risen dust... the colors, the lighting, the hint on certain time of day create a very realistic sensation... reminiscence some sort.
The same I think about your choice of theme for drawing you did in your personal time... it is super realistic... bottom of life... The same I would think about your frequent depiction of all kind of bums and street walkers... Seems like life itself excites you greatly and brings you a lot of inspiration... without a need to invent anything out of our world...

Now some crits:

In your first painting, despite a great story, a lot of interest for eyes, objects and fantasy... there are some disturbing for eyes distortions of perspective...If I try to determine what lays on the level of eye of a viewer... it seems that hands of the addict would be right in front of my view, because there is no perspective distortion on them... the same about hips of the creature...
But when I look lower at magazines, books, trash and especially at bottles and glasses and a candle... the perspective looks very strange... not consistent with the rest of the image... All upper ovals of the different bottles look like they are in different perspectives.
For example the tallest bottle and the one next to it... their upper ovasl should be bigger I think and no way they would look similar... the distance from eye level increases... the ovals should grow more...circumference closer to circle, rounder. I think we will see all bottles' and cans' upper ovals and they will be closer to circle... becasue they are lower than our eye level...
Right now perspective is strange ... actually I think there are few spots where different objects are on the same eye level and they shouldn't be.

I would say you have the same perspective distortion in the oil painting of a red vase...(an image from oil paintings on your website)

Lighting and values are beautiful in this vase... but eyes see something strange in the image...
And I think it is a wrong perspective... the bottom of the page, the surface of the table suggests one perspective, like this object is very close to us... but vase itself is painted like it is far from us. The upper ellipse and the one in the widest part of the vase are the same... The lower ellipse should be closer to circle though judging from perspective of the table... the same about bottom oval of the vase...

I think there is the same mistake in the image of several bottles and cans (image 5 in oil paintings in your website)... perspective of the table is not consistent with perspective of lower ovals in the all bottles.

I think there are the same problem with a figure of Buddha...
floor and money are in one perspective... the wooden doors in another...sculpture in third one... despite wonderful, truthful textures, lighting and values the painting makes me feel strange.. because perspective is distorted IMO...

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=161492&stc=1&d=1183192368 In this drawing perspective is almost right I think, eyes recognize it easily and without any hesitation... (an upper oval of the plant pot from my left is a bit too narrow I think, we look at it from above, I think we should see more of the oval). But this distortion is not that apparent... IMO.
Plus this drawing has a wonderful imitation of bright light from the window... morning i think... I like how it steals some opacity from the outlines of the plant's leaves... I like the graceful curves if the plants... very elegant shapes and light is truthful.

I like in the street scene drawing how scary and sexy in the same time those women are....They create a strange feeling. ... curiosity and attraction and uneasiness.
