1½h on a broken wacom ^^ (I handed it over to the support an hour later)
http://www.wasker.com/airplane.jpg
I did these today, downloaded barontieris brushes so I had something to work with;
Saw this happy fat man on the net and was just amazed how much character he had, 1h study.

A clip of this upcoming movie Perfume inspired me, seems promising. Did this from the mind, 45 min

Wow thanks, Wake :)
Unfortunately I've lost all those brushes I did back then when my comp crashed. Some of the brushes used in that picture are taken from some texture I got from Andrew Jones in a issue of ImagineFX. I could recreate most of them by the ones created by 'happy accidents' are hard to do again. :p
I went for a more cartoon style for this one, done for DSG here at ca.org.

Flaskpost: Tack :) Yup from GF, but I mostly hang at conceptart and cg nowadays. Maybe Sijun aswell after a few skill level ups. :nohope:
Dile: tack tack :D Yup, inspired by David Levy, Barontieri, Sparth and some movies I've seen. I got David's dvd from gnomon aswell. Very intresting to hear his opinion and techniques.
And here's some anatomy studies from Loomis but mostly Bridgman

ben: haha thanks mate
sideshowbob: thanks, doing my best
Chermilla: Yeah I feel more comfortable with enviroments since there are few rules (to me atleast) to follow when it comes to proportion (who can tell if a tree branch is sligthely off anyway :^^: ). Studying some anatomy though, hoping that it will bring characters alive.:evilmustache:
MorteM: Ja, vissa blir sämre än andra :) Tack tack.
More studies, Bridgman and a Da Vinci, I printed a ton of Da vincis today so I'll have some serious studying to do the upcoming days. Cheers

here's a brushtesting image, 1½h, some brushes are m@s btw so I can't take credit for all the brush work.
Edit1: I probably should credit Andrew Jones for the texture aswell.
Edit2: The gradients with circles in was originally invented by David Levy aka Vyle

The bridgeman studies look really good. As do the digitals as always.
My favorite one has to be the second to last pic you posted. The color choice is really cool on that one. The gradiation from the warm yellows to the dark purples is very nice.

I bow to Bridgman, and I like your studies of him - (I've been a sad little boy and skipped my lessons myself); besides that my favourites might be the graviton DSG you did the other day, the dragon and gladiator ~ and have fun with those brushes, I know I have :D

Some really nice updates Wasker - I especially like the ruins 3rd from the top in your previous update.
I really like the mood & colours you are producing, and the renders seems to have improved steadily - so the future can only get better, no?
& Nice to see people brushes in action, they are so edible it's crazy :&
Anyways thanks for stopping by, as for your question, and I'll probably answer it with my next update - I use pencils as well, but less so then I used to (I'll try to remember to scan some of them to tomorrow)

Wake101: thanks Wake, start hanging out in the speed painting threads to speed up your work rate :D
Softocean: Hehe, star wars rocks
Mentler: Aah, cool to get a reply from you :) I dig your anatomy work mr mentler. Bridgman is good and you learn alot by copying his timeless pictures.
Dan liimatta: thanks Dan, yeah, that one came out pretty well. M@'s old brushes are really powerful and fun to work with. The ones I do myself are usually paletteknives or sargent brushes or complex brushes used for stamping. :)
My personal belief is that maximun progress comes from varying your use of art and mediums. So by all means use pencils ^^ Thanks for stopping by
Dreamworker: Thanks dreamworker. I had fun doing those and that's what counts!
mull77 : Glad you like it mull :)

Yo Wasker! Thanks for stopping by my book - much appreciated.
Things are really shaping up in here man. This last one reminds me strongly of hurri's stuff. One crit I have is that it seems to have lost form for the sake of pretty patterns and brushwork, explain the forms a bit more clear especially in the center of the design. good studies too nice and thorough!
thanks for stopping by my book and rating it, I've returned the favour :)

Like I said before, your really progressing man. Your digitals are more defined than before. And those Bridgeman studies are rocking!! Studies to digi paints is a great combo, its really showing through in your work. i would say your understanding of perspective and atmospheric perspective is really improving. Keep working hard. :)
Ashrumm
March 19th, 2007, 02:24 PM
Hey thanks for checking out my sketchbook!! I see lots of progress here your digi's are really improving one thing to note though. I would take a bit more time with the master copys and the master studies (bridgeman). One thing that bridgeman possesses that you have lost in his studies is rythm your drawings bridgeman sketches look flat and forced really study how he balances his figure through the natural rythms of the human form.

Dreamworker: Hey, thanks :)
Dan liimatta: Yeah, you're right o_O thanks for the feedback, I'll apply a red or purple wash to it to deepen the shadows.
Jason Snair: Hey, no problems mate, I regularly (spelling?) check out your nice sb for updates, thanks for the comment!
Brendan N: It does? :) wow, that's a really really good compliment for me, Björn is such an amazing artist, and thanks for stars!
DanielC: Thanks Daniel, glad you like it.
Hurricane: It kinda looks like he's very light, doesn't it? I'm not quite sure how to solve this though. Would re-arranging the feet and darken the shadows where they touch the grounds help, you think?
Darktwin: Thank you Dark :P
Ashrumm: Oh, too bad I didn't read this comment before I posted the next batch. Oh well there will be more studies, rest assured. You're suggesting more fluid movements with the pencil? I've been noticing that I after a while starts to pay more attention to copying the line than the whole picture, I believe this could be one of the reasons it feel forced. Thanks for pointing it out though, I could've gone on for years if no is telling me what I need to improve. :hatsoff:
Brunopicinini: Oh thank you
Slav: hehe, come on, there's always time for anatomy studies!
Enthombed: Wish granted, and thanks.
Newman: Thanks, I hope the atmosphere is a good thing? :)
Mentler: Yeah, I drool at your pics atleast once a week, Mentler so I'm well aware of your Bridgman studies :^^: When I've done Bridgman's books once I might do some Mentler studies as well. thanks for stars :=
Call0ps: Thanks mate.

Those are some damn sexy anatomy studies! What sources did you get them from?
Your digital paints are also pretty cool. My favorite images are the first one of the sketchook, that Sparthy one with the bright red spaceship, and the recent one of the creature with two tails. There's some really nice atmosphere in that one, though the pose and anatomy of the creature aren't working as well as they could.
I get a 404 error when I try to download your textures.
Great studies and paintings! I'll be visiting this sketchbook again!

Hey, Moai: thanks for the support, all the anatomy studies I posted just now are from George Bridgman's complete guide to drawing from life and I really really recommend every artist out there to get this book if you're intrested in anatomy. The textures should be downloadable now, I accidently typed a little 't' in the url instead of a capital. -_- that's computers for me. Anyway it should be working now.
Yeah, the anatomy is somewhat disturbed in the picture with two tails, I did its under arms extra long (had my cat as ref for proportions on upper limbs, but he's kinda fat so you'll never know where one bone begins and another ends). I wanted a creature who you can tell just by looking at it, that it is a stealthy one.
Dile: Hey mate! Thanks for stopping by :) I think I got the brushes from his exclusive sb or something. I can say that there are some good brushes and some bad (it's a bit 50/50, but on the other hand I'm not used to the brush settings he prefer). You might want to download the textures from the .rar I uploaded, the link is working now and they're approx 4-6 times larger than the miniatures I uploaded here. Cheers!

Wow, very cool stuff here, your digi paints are awesome. So many of them ahve a great sense of scale, like the Thor TD. Great textures and atmosphere, once you're just a tad more comfortable with the anatomy this stuff is gonna explode. Great Curse of The Golden Flower quickie!

Great book Wasker!, keep up the studies,
crit: in a few of your figures the heads are a tad bit small. I make this mistake all the time, I tend to draw the head first and get carried away with the rest of the figure and find myself going back to the head to increase the size. Keep working hard, very inpiring work.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It’s been a few busy months in my life, spent freelancing here and there.

UndergroundSean: Hey, np. Thanks for stopping by mine ;)
Hurri: Thanks Björn.
Boom!: Cool :) glad you like em.
TheGnoll: Yeah, I hope it will pay off in the future. Thanks for heads up!
Notorious K.A.B: hehe, many people seem to like it. Thanks : )
Solon: O hey Solon, glad you stopped by. I’ll look up Bammes’ book. Right now I’m looking for some Bargue plates. But that darn book is soooo expensive.
Izu: Oh wow :o a WOT-er here? :D hey Izuael, long time no seen. Ofcourse I remember the fellas on the first graphic forum (fan art lol) I visited. Hehe.
Adraude: Always looking for progression. Thanks
Matejkovacic: Glad you like the stuff in here. Thanks
Call0ps: Thanks for stars man :) I’ll keep posting.
Chromosome: Yeah, Bridgman’s the man. Thanks for stopping by :)
Inflame: Glad to make you happy. I’ll keep postin’
Envisor: Thank you!
Sway West: Yeah, I know what you mean. The reason (I believe) my enviros are a bit fuzzy are because I keep the canvas zoomed out all the time. For some reason. Thanks for stopping by and giving me a pointer. I need those.
Fooxoo: Teheee, ye, most studies I do have deformed hand or too small heads, I’ve noticed. Not sure why. I think it might be because I pay too much attention to single parts when I should see the body as a whole. Thanks for crits and sup, fooxoo :)
Chupacabra: hehe, thanks
Rick-k: Oh thanks mate
Bard: I make a lot of brushes for different tasks, it’s very useful. Thanks for stopping by.
Jeri: Thanks Jeri, glad you like my studies and stuff and for stars!
Clocks: Thanks Clocks :) Patience’s the key you know!
Grundybug: Np, and thank you for yours ;)
JLAlfaro: Cool! Thanks for the love
Designboot: Oh hey designboot, sorry for letting the Albesila team down (somewhat). Saying that I’ve been busy is clearly an understatement.
Smokey186: Don’t be. Practice!
Sonaj: Thanks, Sonaj. I do the texts as well to remember it better. I’m not sure it’s that important. The drawings are what counts in my opinion.
JLAlfaro: Haha, Thanks mate.
Darktwin: Thanks Darktwin. Yeah, I struggle with that a lot in lifedrawing. I start out with a ellipse for the head and then focus on the body without paying attention to the head. Just as I said to Fooxoo, I believe I also need to see the body as a whole form rather than just a lot of smaller forms.
Hurley: Thanks hurley :)

Alright starting out with a concept for a shopping bag for ACNE jeans (refused though) and it ended up as an add in a magazine which was a collab between a brother in graphic design and me. The text says 'this is not an add' and the shopping bags 'style for sale'. The style aimed for was that of barbara krueger with slightely provoking messages in white on red labels.

Here's some printed graphic design. I'm not a wild about any of them anymore but what the heck.. it's work
Did this with ~10 graduating graphic designers. Their pitch was 'make it look like a fashion magazine'. pagecount (excluding cover) 102.
http://www.wasker.com/ca/mvd.jpg
and a book done for Malmö museums, pagecount (excluding cover) 74. I'm telling you, these take time to do. I combined some graphical elements, such as ornaments and illustrations with the text and pictures.
here's the cover and backside. The flower on the back wasn't my idea. :)
http://www.wasker.com/ca/cover.jpg
and some samples from within
http://www.wasker.com/ca/page1.jpg
The ornament ends up more to the blackness of the picture since ~6 mm (no idea how much that is in inches) disappears when you glue and fold the book. The pictures were taken by Johanna Rylander.
http://www.wasker.com/ca/page2.jpg
http://www.wasker.com/ca/page3.jpg
This one was great fun but the colours turned out to be a bit dull. It's a promotional poster and t-shirts (for sale) for a deaf disco/club. Deaf people obviously have clubs too but with REALLY REALLY loud music and bass turned out so you literally feel the beat. The hands says "I" and "want/want to/desire" and the last one hardly needs explanation.
http://www.wasker.com/ca/iwtr.gif
and some invitation cards for another club for. It turned out it was not the real fugitives that played but some underground band with the same name. :p Oh well..
http://www.wasker.com/ca/fugitives.gif
and a cover for a single
http://www.wasker.com/ca/cover.gif
and a poster for yet another club. Looking back I would've picked another font. But there were some economical limits there so I ended up with this free font. Still, it looks pretty impressive when massed 5x5 posters.

I agree. Your digitals are great, but your sketches have such a good... I don't know, they seem more natural. I'm the same way. My paper sketches look much looser than my digitals :)
Great though! Great anatomy.

Acrylics (and some oils) abstract on large mdf. My palette is now pretty greased up with thick layers of acrylic paint. Cons and pros I guess, easier to clearn when you use oils but less time waiting for the paint to dry.

Cons are that graphite falls off easily, which is a bad thing.

The book I use is a moleskine Joakim :) thanks. I bought mine at Matton, a shop in Malmö, I think you can find Matton in Gothenburg and Sthlm too. I have seen bookstores such as Akademibokhandeln sell them too. They're not that expensive, like 100 kronor for 3x a4 books. Only downside in my opinion is that the paper is too transparent.

Saw your work via DEEP. Love it all. Really great environment stuff. Quite exquisite. My only critique is that some of your figures and faces seem to lack structure on occasion...just kind mishmash. yes got to agree. your environments are awesome totally love the first underwaterscene in post 217 and the grassy hills a few pics below.

Wasker
July 12th, 2008, 07:14 AM
Mattinian: Yo thanks mate!
Monotony: hehe, I usueally start out with a few values like the one I have attached below. Then I jump right into it using colours or start making a monochrome image, like the dragon. The first one was just really an overpaint of a rock I saw in the park, normally I don't do overpaints but for image I found such a cool reference that I couldn't resist :)
So I saw this rock and was fascinated by it, I thought; Wow, that stone formation could just aswell be ten miles wide. And so I shot a photo and just slapped some colour on. Here's the photo I used as a base.
http://www..wasker.com/reference_1.jpg
So I did this speedpaint, I'm not sure if it reads well or not. My compositional idea was to have most blocks of value pointing to the darkest area of the image

July 12th, 2008, 01:18 PM
I am fascinated -- do you finish out these works or use them for ref? I looked at your site and think you should finish out some of these speeds and beef up your finished work section! July 13th, 2008, 04:40 PM
KellyX: Hey Kelly, thanks, :)
yeah I use them for a abit of both actually, I do these scribbles all the time, both digitally and in my sketchbook. Later, if I need it, I can have my sketchbook open and try to emulate the 'feeling' of a certain drawing I like. The tree sketches are examples of reference sketching. And yes, I should finish up my sketches I have on my homepage but you know.. once I've gotten an idea down that is readable, if only to myself, I get bored quickly and want to start on some other idea that was spawned in the process.
Flaskpost: haha, tackar och bugar. The oil, was fun and relaxing to do. I had been struggling with painting a flower right for like 3 hours and I hadnt got anywhere near a finished sketch to I just said to myself; fuckit I'm gonna do a speedpainting instead. And so I did.

DanielC: Thanks mr C, it's a still from Pathology, a rather crappy movie. Bloodsimple is good though ;)
Vorace: Hey thanks, I read your comment in the chow118 thread abit too late, I love headresses but since I wasn't that familiar with the DnD universe I went for a more cliché kind of characters. A too crazy helmet might have felt out of place so I played it safe.
Flaskpost: You're right, my thread titles never makes sense :D
so here's my go at the chow that was closed,

Hmmm... I don't know about the pose on this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=416409&stc=1&d=1216466545). The top half of the body faces one way, but the legs are set to head the other way... Just looks a little odd to me  I like the colorz, though. :)
Cheers :D
