Hello all, I'm Nigel, 16, living in the netherlands and i'm a sketchaholic.

Second attempt at making a sketchbook. Hopefully i'll be able to keep this one allive, as it's a great motivation to draw more. not really in the mood to scan a lot right now, but i'll start off with a silly self portrait i did yesterday, took about 20 minuts.

Btw, is this too big? If it is prease say so and i'll adjust it.. Oh and C&C always welcome.

archipelago - Thanks man, first reply! ;) I'll try to keep it up as much as possible, i'm very seriues about improving my skills.. "just draw draw draw!" Will do!

Evxyza92 - Thanks, my main focus atm is just getting better at drawing in general, and i'll worry about digital painting later, like you said yourself already :)

So, my family went out for a while, so i was able to look at some nekid girls.. Purely for artistic studies ofcourse ;) I also did some more quick anatomy studies from my book..

Decided to do a portet of my mother from life. Have to say it was a lot harder than doing a SP.. The first two looked like shit  Half way trough though she had to leave to walk with the dogs, so it's not finished yet. I believe this took me about 20 minuts.. I'll try to finish it later.

Bleh, alcohol and drawing arent a good combo..

But you probally already knew that ;) Tried to do something original for a change, but ended up just doing more anatomy studies becuase i just couldnt produce anything good.. :[ Ahwell..

Thanks for stopping by my Sketch book!

Your sketch book shows alot of potential! I really like your studies of hand, feet and legs. Really nice!

Yeah about the games design course. I would go for it because I am having a fanstanic time with my course. I relish every day because I learn new things that will help me get closer to actually having a chance to break into the games industry, hopefully as a concept artist. I dont know how the course in the Netherlands works but I am sure it will still be a great course to participate in!

Before you make any hasty decisions, throughly check out the course and what it has to offer.

Keep it up and good luck!

AK86 - Thanks man. I'll keep that in mind.

Been a busy day today, did manage to convince my mom to sit down another 15 minuts though, hehe. Small update, not looking very good.. bleh, hate portraits, still a good excersise though. Have to say it does look very simmilair.

Hey man. Studies are looking good. loving the portraits. I hate doing them too. But they are a very good exercise. No real crits yet, just keep the sketching up. And have fun with it.

Justin.

Looks like you are doing good with the studies, just keep the saturation up a bit more with the colors!

Thanks for the comment too =)

Envisor - Thanks man! Nice to hear you like my portraits, hehe.

Justin Oaksford - Will do, thanks man, oh and np, your stuff rocks :)

I'm le tired right now, and i can't draw when i'm le tired :< As you can clearly see from the blob in the corner.. It's a backpack btw... 5 minuts.

http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/2448/studie12sh8.jpg

Spent most of my time today reading about pencils, grip, technique.. Eventually came to the conclusion the only right way to draw is the one i prefere most :| Oh well, also practiced on my lines, but didn't bother scanning those obviously hehe.

Normally i don't scan stuff i doodle at school, mainly becuase it's all crap, but this one wasn't that bad so i figured why not.

Edit: was a bit out of order so just decided to remove it.

Whenever i have time these days i'm practicing on my digitals, but I havent made anything worth showing so far. Might post something tomorrow. Now I need to get back to homework... :<

Proper update this time! Drawing a bald guy from ref was a good studie. Drawing a head without hair gives you a much better idea of eye/nose/mouth placement, one of the things i often phail at..

Been a while since my last update again.. My sketchbook was full (yay!), so i had to go out and buy another one.. but i kept forgetting about it hehe..

Anyway, what better way to start of a new sketch book than with some cats :D

Hey man, I agree, good anatomy studies. If you keep those up you shouldn't have too much of a problem creating some convincing original drawings. Also like the way you rendered the eyes on the close-up of the cat.

Nigel
February 17th, 2007, 07:05 PM
Thanks for the positive comments! Oh and the rendering wasn't all that special hehe, but thanks anyway :p

Some more studies and faces from ref before i go to bed.. They turned out ok considering the alcohol :)

Hey man, no problem, you've got some awesome stuff in your book!

I've been doing anatomy for quite a while now hehe. I'm now at the last chapter about legs/feet, but i've already handled the head, torso, arms etc. So that's why you only see me do legs :p You're right about the lack of variation. Ill do my best go get something different in here.

Cant wait for more.

Thanks man, glad you like em.

Alright, i promised some variation, so here it goes.. First portrait i've ever done digital.. Been about 1,5 hour now, but it's still FAR from finished! And it looks crap :p Oh well, it's still practice.

Edit: Removed

gawd, just noticed how green i look :| Wasn't like that in photoshop.. i think..

Been working on my SP again.. Then after a while came to the conclusion this wasn't going anywhere.. So, gave my self some EMO hair to go over the unfinished eyes and ears :p I should probally practice from some digital painting tutorails or something, anyone got any good ones? :)

Bleh.

Alright, first off all, sorry for not updating the past couple of days. I've mainly just been experimenting with photoshop and reading stuff blahblahblah.... and i was sick.

Did this in about an hour from ref. It's not finished, but i really need to go to sleep. Need to wake up early tomorrow.. going on vacation :D This also means i won't be posting anything for atleast a week, just so you know.
