Hot damn! Nice job man.. The only crit I can think of is that there's something wrong with the right foot of the second character. Looks like he has two left feet.... Anyway. Hot damn...

Interceptor- Thanks man! I know, color color color color...color color...

Rudeone- Thanks :) appreciate it.

jozulus- Thank you, characters are my favorite.

Chermilla- Thanks!

Dile_ - :) Yeah, I use Bristol, smooth. I tried using printer paper when I was starting out, but my stuff would always get destroyed. I must be brutal when I erase cause I swould accidentally crease so many good drawing, so I switched to Bristol :)

mr. Point- Thanks for the crit and thanks for the comment :)

Envisor- Thank you, here's some more....

...character designs :) On the left, regular clothing, on the right, armor wear... :

THanks for the answer! But why did you used printer paper ? :P Whats the Good-side in that ? You switched just because of the ereaseing ?
Great concepts, wes inspired ? Looks great however. Keep it up
and i make sure to come by often!

*You have any old work here on CA ? I noticed you have over 300 posts, I hope that is not all discussions and stuff :P

I think a different background color on the last piece would work better. Maybe a complement?

nice stuff dude, lots of varying characters! a crit though, you seem to be drawings heads too small sometimes, it would also be nice to see you try to push yourself out of comfort zones, that last character is a good example of what you could try to do more of, more refined rendering, diferent head poses, etc...

cheers anyway man, great stuff!

This is the exact rendering style i want to incoporate into my own work, i love it to bits this is all amazing! The only thing i'd say (and i hate doing this to such fine artwork) is try to block out the proportions on your characters a tiny bit more, mostly on your human images. But apart from that u are rocketing towards super awesomeness! not that u aren't already mind :)

Grim Reaper
March 2nd, 2007, 05:17 AM
Hey man, that's awesome! Beautiful concepts and great imagination. The only crit I have is that most of them look awefully... wide. It's almost like if they have very fat stomachs and huge torsos... But maybe it makes them special? 'Cos it looks good...I don't know. Yeah, carry on doing them wide torsos 'cos I actually like it:) No rules apply for art anyway, at least in my opinion.

Really love your works. Nice clean pencils. Some proportions are weird, characters are very wide and have small hands :)

Danomight
March 2nd, 2007, 01:28 PM
archipelago- Thanks for the crits man, I appreciate it. Yeah, lots of art buddies have been pointing out the small heads/ wide torsos lately...not sure how I developed that habit, but it was really hard for me to see it when it was pointed out. Hopefully I can balance them out a little better from here on out.

Blade-14- Thank you for the kind words :) You're probably right about the blocking in, I think let it slide sometimes...

Grim Reaper- I thought the same thing too man...it was hard for me to notice the misproportions at first cause they looked "right". Thanks for the observations :)

Third Eye- Thanks :)

Ton of stuff in here that I wish I could add to my inspiration folder. Colors are really great, reminds me of a couple artists on here and that's a compliment, trust me. Also, the pencils are just insanely good. Any tips for getting fluid lines and good composition? Also, what kind of pencils do you use on your rendering? I like how you're pushing your values on some of these...

Here are some quick sketches I've been working on the past couple of days on and off. Just having some fun with the Combine soldier design from Half Life 2.

It's beautiful stuff you do. The character work has a nice mixed feel of 70's/80's sword and sorcery fantasy and European sci-fi. Your monsters are great, too. I really dig it.

strybjorn
October 29th, 2007, 01:28 PM
really really nice stuff!

your sci-fi designs have a really nice feel - those combine soldier varients are all good and add lots to the original

the only thing i would say would be about the basic, stylised colouring - id really like to see some of your characters taken coloured to a more finished state at some point - more like this (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1218275&postcount=13) guy

ill be keeping an eye out for updates :)

bustermaximus- Thanks :) I've been getting that 80's comment a lot lately, lol. I'm not sure how that style rubbed off on me, I guess watching so many cartoons as a kid.

strybjorn- Thanks, glad you liked em. I really like the simple style, but it seems most concept art is painterly now a days.

Wow. I really like those last color characters. There is a nice old school feel to them. Is that digital or marker or pencil or what? It feels like something out of the 70s or 80s. So good. Post some more for use please.

You are one evil sonofabitch! How dare you update when I don't have my precious USB to save all of this great work. And what's up with the updating Dan! I've been dying to look into a sketchbook that is good but NOOOOOOO, you decide to keep it all a secret. The first couple of pages are just something ill. Please make it more consistent regarding the updates?

Hey dan =D

Since the beginning of the book you have wonderfully put your characters into perspective, and you do a great job from reference. Your colors seem like hit or miss, but one thing I see (or rather don't see), are enviros! Landscapes are super fun to paint, and I think when learning to paint enviro stuff, there is alot to learn about character stuff from it.

I like your pencil work best. "moarpractise.jpg" is really lovely, especially the one on the top right corner. Real economical use of lines. Thanks for sharing.

Hi! Wow you do a LOT of character designs, and they are great, I think some of your best stuff here are the guys in masks and general futuristic looking designs. The characters with swords remind me of fantasy in the 80s but thats not a bad thing! Its a nice style you've got going on and I see where even after the few life drawings you've done, things are looking a little better as far as proportion goes. Some of the monster type sketches are just amazing.

I would like to say that some of your coloring looks great (like that female looking monster with the pointy face?) but the black haired girl with the blue armor looks a bit jarring to me. Maybe your color choice is a little too bright?

All I see are character designs and while thats good that your honing that area (I have a problem going outside my comfort zone too) I would have to agree with Justin and say that you should give Environments a try :)

Hello Danomight! I filled the position that Justin Used to have in the Mentoring-thread with Idiot Apathy. I thought I´d pop by and give some constructive critisism^^

Good:

-Your lines are very pretty and confident! looks neat. I also very much enjoy your pencil renderings!

-It seems to me you´ve got a solid visual library.

-Your art reminds me of Marco Djurdjevic and Wes Burt :)

-Your anatomy is good and believable!

-Great sense of detail.

Could use improvement:

-I think you could improve alot when it comes to digital rendering. In my opinion, your skintones look quite dead, and I think they could benefit from you adding more warms and cools to them. You know, identifying some hot spots (nose, ears, cheeks etc.) and giving them some more reds and whatnot.

-I think your characters look quite stiff and that they lack personality and character. You dress them great, and make them intriguing by the gestures of the hand, but I cant help but feel that they´re kinda pasted on. That there´s no coherence between how the character is and behaves, or rather how I expect it to be and behave, and the visual design of his accessories and clothes. I think you could benefit from a switch of mental gears, going from technique, cause you´re very good at the technique, to emotion. I believe that would help your characterdesigns immensely. I think this problem becomes quite more apparent when viewing your lifedrawings, as they look like objects, lifeless and still, much like a vase or a table, rather than a real person. But maybe that´s the consequence of all "academic" drawing? I´d love to see you draw the verb, not the noun.

-You haven´t updated in over a month. I´d love to see more!

Those are my two cents anyway^^
