voraz
February 2nd, 2007, 12:43 PM
Acording to the first post between the 8th and the 15th this month.
I guess it will be in this thread and that there won't be a poll. You'll have to write the 3 you prefer in order of preference.

Beauty! Aparently I don't read details.
I would assume that we don't include our own in our top 3.

though I`m not too sure humanoid characters that are part man part beast
make a "stylized animal" (since it`s not the actuall animal being designed in a style, but rather the animal being incorporated into a human form/character....),
I do think there is some CRAZY artwork here from some CRAZY talented people. :)
my voting then:

i kliked these 3 in this order bcuz they are definitive octopus' which do not differ too much from the original form yet all show strong sense of style. incredible work from eveyone though.

Like chuck said, and I agree with him, even if the creator of the thread voted for the anthro pieces... I liked all the art posted here, but I felt that this was an animal challenge, and I felt these best represented the animal in question.

my top five...er six:
1. bunny - don't know why, but bond keeps surfacing in my mind. ya know...from octopussy. hahahahaa. nice job!
2. the nik - face, teef, eyes and pose got me. nicely done.
3. shao shao (humanoid version) - the little fellas win me over. without them, the humor isn't present...but with them it's choice.
4. chuck, mate - love your style, but you know that already.
5. gun trouver - thanksgiving takes on a whole new meanin', pilgrim.
6. hell taxi - i don't get funny from this, but i get wow. nicely handled!
cheers!

I based my choices on those that chose to stylize an octopus in it's natural form, then skill and finally presentation.
1) Chuckmate
Nailed it in spades across the board.
2) Shao Shao (second one)
I really like the first one you did, but the little octo critter is beautifully rendered.
3) Squidditch
I really like what you did with the octopus, but I think if there were more to see in the background things may have been different with my decision.
Lots of great work to choose from :)

1. bunny - a fantastic character has emerged in this piece; he has a really strong presence and you really do believe that if octopi had roles in the ocean, then this would most definitely be it! strong and commanding: love it.
2. helltaxi - very unique; dark and msyterious - wouldn't want to bump into him down a dark alley ;). loving the use of light and shade that makes you really feel the slimy quality of his skin. pretty creepy, but a great concept and finish.
3. the nik - another great character with a strong personality; very bold and entertaining. he looks as if he's about to say something, which has completely captured my attention.

my votes:
1) Redehlert -- not only fun stylization, but great concept
2) Chuck, Mate-- so clean it hurts
3) Guntrouver-- Great lines, strange and bizaare
I stayed away from the anthropomorphized creatures, since I didn't feel it fully stayed with the topic. (though ShaoShao's piece almost swayed me)

Maybe the people putting on the contest should just pick the winners to avoid any complications in the voting.

Also, apologies if you have emailed us recently and not recieved a reply, small technical error (entire email server blew up..) caused us a few problems which are now hopefully sorted.
I'm sure things will be back to normal soon enough :)

Hey Gang -
I've written to the person I was told to be in contact with, but to no avail so far. That said, I will gladly fulfill my obligation for the tutorial if someone will contact me via my email address: david@cognitionstudio.com and let me know when things are needed by, quantity of steps for the tutorial and how much copy to write for it, and any additional details I need to be aware of.
I've given my email address since I'm departing this forum to immerse myself in my studies, and explore techniques and theories. If I don't hear anything from anyone, please take the fourth place individual in place of my entry.
All the very best,
Dave
