psssst...go to the last pages...this stuff...is...uh...old...newer works posted...
Well, my last sketchbook in 2006 never really got off the ground and I wanted to start off with a clean slate. So, I'll post more stuff in this.
Oh, by the way...if I lag behind ever do feel free to leave bashful comments to get me off my lazy butt. This thread hopefully won't be making many pit stops though :bashful:
Okay, first couple of things are digi pieces. Trying a different look.

I guess style would come up to discussion, but how about using some bigger brushes for blocking out shapes?
I like your hard-thin brushes in most of your uploaded works, but I can't say it's working every time.

Hi and thanks for you comment ^^
This is one of the coolest sketchbook around , not in the typical "concept-way" but the style and artwork in general, some of this is stuff I'd like to have on my walls! However, you should really work from reference and from life cause I belive that your observation skills are not up to par with your imaginary drawing skills, just a thought though.
Keep at it!

Thanks man for stopping by. No prob for the comment. Your very talented for your age!
You really are right about doing more life studies and from ref. I'm trying hard to force myself to do these more. I know they will help me alot in the long run.
Speaking of which, more bones and some muscle studies from ref. I noticed I had a red bottle of ink and had some fun with it. More B&W coming soon though.

Trashy, thanks for stopping by at my Sketchbook and fro you nice comments and good advice, I posted there some advice on perspectives for you, may not be the best way but that's how I think about perspective and looks like it works fine.
Nice sketchbook, I really like your digital painting style, and I don't draw figures, I have but I'm not good, in my plans I will learn, so please don't get offended, I'm sure you had to do really quick watercolor sketches, but I think for what I've seen that the anatomy is off in ome of those paintings, I really liked your old Illustrations, also your tree studies are great (all), nice going with the DaVinci studies, I like the pen shading you are doing a lot, I really liked your environment also.
Well, good work, keep posting more!

PeGGO- Thanks man and it's good to see you around here.
robmorfin- Hey robmorfin, thanks a lot for also stopping by. Yeah, anatomy has always been a sore spot for me...I just gotta keep hammering at it basically. Honestly I've just got done reading tons of art book and concluded...none of them are going to truly help me. In order to get better I just need to get out there and draw, draw, draw and practice, practice, practice. I appreciate your thoughts man a lot...never would get offended by ones advice. I'll check that perspective stuff also.
mentler- Speaking of anatomy...your like the god of drawing that stuff. I feel honored and happy that you stopped by. I'll keep the work coming from now on sir :yayca:
...By the way...I gotta run to your sketchbook.
I feel like suck a lazy bum for not updating more often here. Dunno...just been trying so many different looks and styles and just...well...experimenting a whole lot...and giving myself some serious headaches in the process. I think maybe I finally found my niche...or more like it found me. Feel a lot more confident in myself lately. So anyway, less babbling and more updating this place....WHOOOP!
So first here are some pieces I did at a park. I'm making it a point to walk down just about everyday now in the morning and do studies of the people. I take my dog with me also. Never tried drawing moving people before...it's pretty cool actually.

Big update here. I had a pretty major independent project to do in college. It involved me doing a full-size poster illustration for a theater play also at the college. The illustration is based off the the storybook called the "BFG" also known as "The Big Friendly giant". Their really happy with the illustration so I can take a big deep sigh of relief. Originally I wanted a more cartoon look but the staff wanted a more realistic human-like giant.
So here are all the concepts and steps leading to the final illustration. First time I ever did something like this before. Was a real blast!

You have some really nice painting skills developing here! I love the color especially in the orange and green horse digi... If I may offer a piece of advice: Check out Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy. He gives you simple ratios for the relationships between different parts of the body that make proportions easier and are really helpful. I say this because your last painting is beautiful for the most part, but the incorrect proportions of the man make it seem a bit off.
Good stuff! Keep it up.

very cool. your paintings live through your love to the brushes, am i right? practice the anatomical relations.
your work reminds me to make more use of diffrent kinds of brushes, and how much life paintings can get by giving them texture. thank you for that!
Trashy
January 3rd, 2008, 01:41 PM
Cloister- thanks man for coming by. Yeah, itleast I think I'm aware of my weaknesses. I think the main thing is anatomy right now for sure.
HanRa-Hey HanRa! Yeah I love my brushes. I actually cut down though on how many I used to use. I had a set that I made over 100 different brushes and knocked it down to twenty. Custom brushes work best when you use the standard brushes with them. The regular round hard brush is still my fave IMO along with good speckled brushes.
Thanks for you comments and thoughts. I really appreciate it!

Those life studies seem to come along nicely as well. With the B&W tin can be carefull with the ellipses, as ellipses which are lower in perspective are more circular than ellipses closer to the horizon (not sure that makes perfect sense...).

I went thorough your all sketchbook. You have lots of imagination and interesting ideas, just need to work more on technical skills. I see your're progressing fast so it won't be any problem for you :).
My favourite are some of your diluted ink sketches and this digital painting of tree. I would suggest is to avoid using darkest dark for every shadow. It flattens form instead of of making it 3 dimensional. Use dark color instead.
Keep it up!
Trashy
January 11th, 2008, 05:53 PM
@Farvus Thanks man for coming by and commenting. You're right about the technical side of things. Just gotta keep practicing and practicing.
You know, for a awhile I think was using a computer with bad calibration. It's sorta weird because the colors would look faded on screen so I would push sometimes the levels or curves(I think that was a bad thing to do). More often then not I would adjust everything on other computers calibrated the right way. I could never get that screen to look right. I just very very recently calibrated my new computer correctly and I can see all those harsh dark shadows you're talking about. Hmmm...really counts to have a right calibrated screen. I can't believe the difference I'm seeing now. Darnit...makes me want to do everything over again.
Umm...oh yeah if anybody else is reading this I suggest you check this out if your not sure about your color settings for web images- http://www.aim-dtp.net/aim/evaluation/cdg/cdg.htm

great work you've done in the last posts, nice tree and eye practice for sure. Gosh I would have gone crazy doing all those arms in one go.
Something with the alignment of your nose bridge and right eye bugs me on your portrait. Its fantastic your exploring painter...it can do so much that I haven't begun to dig into myself. The variation in your work is really cool to see. From painting to stylized ink renderings to more literal drawings. Overall you do really really good work. You have odd issues with some of the gestures I think - in particular in the way their shoulders pop out from their bodies like they are over developed or dislocated. Obviously they're just gestures so you're drawing fast, but it was something I noticed. I like the hand studies, too. lots of variation in poses. The thumb always seems a little "off", though.
That's about all I can offer for critique. Nice work!

Hey man,
good sense of color and stroke you have there. The last piece has a very dynamic feel to it. The only problem that I see in your works is the anatomy. Otherwise good stuff man. Keep drawing !

Hey Trashy! Nice Junkyard hehehe!
First off I must thank you for leaving a helpful comment for me and I must return the favor with some BUMPage of this thread.
Secondly, I just finished looking through your thread and I must say I really like your style. The way you just throw the burshes and shapes down is really brave, also your colors are cool.
Smid above said anatomy is an issue sometimes... though sometimes I feel you've done it on purpose. Like here for example: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=294076&d=1202004176
I think you should keep up with your style and keep refining it.
I did notice sometimes you tend to paint crooked, I remember one of the skull studies on page 1 was not symmetric left to right... really though I shouldn't speak on this matter because I'm guilty myself of committing such bad moves with my art :)
Anyways, thanks once again, keep posting and cheers to ur junk!

Hey guys,
so a new semester has started and things were alittle bumpy at first. Worked my hours at my job at the campus so hopefully I can start drawing more now again...woop! First weeks always drive me nuts!!!
@smid- Thanks man for coming by my corner. Yup, anatomy needs working on in alot of areas. I'll keep cranking out stuff.
@n1va - glad you dig my mess :)
Don't you hate it when you finish a drawing and notice it's freaking crooked! yeah, it's painfully noticeable in the skull studies I did on page 1. I think I gotten alittle better but thats also something that needs a working on.
Thanks man for coming by.
Okay...so couple of doodles from class and random things. Tried some vehicle studies in one-point perspective's.

Hey mate, wanted to thank you for all the nice comments you've left me, they're great help :)
Your sketchbook, on the other hand, is a killer! I'm greatly impressed! Inspiring, that's for sure. Saved a few in my folder of inspiration :) The way you handle texture and colour in your digis blow my mind! It looks like you're using Painter, is that correct? I'm only in PS myself, but from what I've seen here on CA, it would be great fun to practice Painter. If you have any tutorials links laying around, I'd greatly appreciate to see them :)
Otherwise I can't say much more that isn't asspatting already! You're already showing a great range and variety in your work, which is always healthy. Your passion seems to shine through, at least I get the vibe from all of these that you're enjoying yourself tremendousy :) And frankly, that's not too common among artists. At least I don't see it everywhere.
Wait, what did I say about asspatting? Enough already! Well, I'll just be sitting here and waiting for the next batch :)

@AsaB- aww, your so kind :^^:
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, the last couple of pieces I've been using Painter. I actually use both programs but currently painter I'm learning and loving a lot. In terms of tutorials I would suggest looking at Don Seegmiller's site and I heard Ryan Church Dvd's are awesome. I intend on purchasing them and I own a copy of Seegmiller's book called "Digital Character Design and Painting" the Painter version. The main thing though is just to do studies and practice as you would in Photoshop or any other program.
Check this link-

If you go to the homepage Corel has a pretty good newsletter also.

Hey there!
I was just looking through your sketchbook and noticed how good you are with colours and brushes! Many of your works have excellent, warm colours, and interesting textures to them. Sometimes the overall impact is a bit less strong because of anatomy/proportion issues, so there you have something to study! Your more 'abstract' works are the best, like the last one.

Awesome stuff man :D Love the feeling you're getting with painter! for that last monster though, I think it would look a hell of a lot better if you pushed the values a bit more, saturated some areas a little more and picked out some specular highlights :) Did a quick paintover, this is what I was talking about, cept it should be executed better hahah :)

my gosh ive always loved that look using the square shaped brushes yet I dont know why...something about it is very pleasing and keeps your eye moving?
The twisted face painting is looking interesting, though I enjoyed some of the more simple elements in this one more http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=327890&stc=1&d=1205903692
the hard line seperating the 2 background textures feels better compositionally to me flipped with him on the right as well. Maybe pop out a focal point even more.
The figures marked 'longer studies' in post #99 are ok, but I feel that they majorly lack the construction stages which is causing proportional problems. you may have been focusing simply on the poses but try and get everything else attention as well. laters!

wahoooo....finally back here again. I got a couple more weeks left and a other semester of college is in the books. I'm honestly getting tired of this semester so it's good thats it's almost over. Good news is itleast I got a sketchgroup finally started at my campus. We are starting to meet every Friday so it's pretty cool.
anyway...I missed this place!
Jakers Man I fall for those square brushes constantly.
It's always interesting flipping the pieces horizontally...it's crazy how much it changes sometimes. You know after looking at the piece more the noise bothers me also. It does need something more to it.
I hear you on those 99 studies...their pretty much lifeless in all respects. It was more or less a study in lines. I really did skimp out on the construction bits. I think I really have been going after anatomy the wrong way.......gah...over complicating sh#t.
Dandilion Thanks :)
Alright, some quick little studies of guns after watching El Coro's dvd on gun concepting. Freaking amazing Video. Coro...you the man!

Alright finally got stuff out of the way. I'm going to start updating here every Saturday. I just got done getting some good books on anatomy and perspective...can't believe it but I didn't have any of those kinds of books. Dunno...I'm actually learning that having the materials right in my hands is far better then reading stuff on the computer screen it seems. Anyway..."Strength Training Anatomy"...oh my god that book is amazing!!! Can't wait to stuff diving into this.
I think in terms of anatomy I just need to hit it harder. I'm going to do a study every night before I go sleep. I've been far too sporadic. I need to do this routinely and stay on top of it with all my other works. I'm starting this tonight!
@Sorknes- Hi there:)

Hi, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. You have some really nice stuff in here, i especially like your pen and ink work, and your quick figure sketches, they are great. The one thing i could critique is maybe to push the painting compositions just a step further. For example, maybe in this one: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=381360&d=1212292270 put some maybe add a lightsource that hits right at the focal point of the image which i think is the plant's face. Or maybe even use the existing light in it but instead of having the lightsource be white, make it yellowish or orange to bring a little bit of saturated color into it. Anyway, that's more of opinion than suggestion, it stands as a good piece as is. thanks again for stopping by. Cheers'

A lot of cool digital paintings, and those Hogarth studies sure will help you with adding form to your drawing.
A little nitpicky but I notice that you tend to draw ellipses with very sharp ends. Usually the narrow ends of the ellipses would look more rounded even if it gets really narrow. I hope this helps. ;)

Hey man, thanks for all the comments in my sb :)
Beautiful hand studies! The fact that you're both learning from Hogarth's book and from life (your own hands), makes it a killer combo. I'm sure you'll improve fast in that area if you keep this up :)
That last tree speedie is eye candy as well. The loose feel it has it great, and the colour combo is so natural and in harmony. Keep at it!

Loving those hands there, got an interesting feel to them. Is the distortion on purpose? :D If it's not, check them perspectives and bones. Keep at it!

@staticpen- Tim Burton is my hero. haha...yeah it's gonna get bloody in here.
@algenpfleger-Thank you man. Yeah, I'm looking at those bones right now. I think it's actually a good idea to start with the bones structures first too from what I'm learning.
@~Faust~-:)
@Flaskpost- indeed, thanks.
@enrigo -Good catch on those circles. I do often draw them too sharp o the edges. Something else that needs some tweaking. Thanks for coming by.
@AsaB- No prob Asab. Yeah, I think they will help. Gotta do all the other parts too and put it together. Haha...I make it sound alot like a puzzle sometimes.
@Reika- Thanks Reika. Yeah, alot of those hands are from Hogarth and I tried posing my hands in those illustrations and found it insanely difficult. I think some of them are distorted on purpose. Won't be trying to distort my own hand studies though.
Just a tiny update here. Get some more anatomy stuff up in the coming days. I did a quick eye study again. I'm doing some stuff in Don Seegmillers book again. Eh...I do need to practice on the circles again. Might do a other one of these next week. I'm experimenting in 3d modeling now as well. Hehe...rendered a apple...not posting it here...looks like crap. Not as hard as I thought it might be though. Just need to practice more with the software.

Hey trashy, your SB looks good, The hands are looking good. I can't say I've ever liked hogarth. I think you should look to make/keep rhythms/curves in your drawings. you have a stylised tower/house on your first pages that has a nice flow to it. I think you could apply that to all your stuff. Keep up the good work.

@Peter_K Thanks man.
@Hybrid_75 Thanks for coming by Hybrid. It's interesting because after going through the first chapters with Hogarth I noticed he does over exaggerate alot of things. Honestly alot of the hand poses can't be done in real life...I actually tried to pose my hands like those in the book. I'm just taking note of the guidelines he lays down. You touch on a great point with the curves. They tend to appear when I just loosen up on works. I'll keep note of that. Thanks man!
@Clochette Thanks:)

Been just alittle busy planning a little trip back to the East Coast. Man...really looking forward to going back there for a bit. By the way, I just got back from seeing Pixar's latest "Wall-E"...OMG!!! Look I'm not kidding when I say this movie has changed me...I'm freaking serious. One of the most inspiring and amazing films I have ever seen. Words just can't damn describe it. Goddammit...I'm gonna work for Pixar...that is one of my top goals..period!!! I know my work needs working, I know I'm not up to snub yet but crap...I'm not going to look back and be one of the dudes sitting in a cubicle saying..."well I could of done that" or "I wished I had that job".
...the hell with that shit.
I'm writing down a goal sheet starting tonight...and Pixar is on it.
I know I sound like a raving lunatic right now. I'm honestly just feeling charged and ready to go. Sorta excited actually...hehe.
Anyway, I'm gonna work my butt off real soon...I mean really work my butt off. Oh by the way...see the movie!!!

It's been a while since I dropped in (since Feb I think) and WOW! I knew you had it in you to create stunning drawings as well as painted works, and I never understood the discrepancy in quality between something you'd blocked in with colour and your line drawings. Now you're putting the effort into the drawing side your art the quality is just getting better and better! Those hands are so well drawn, I'm in awe :)

Oooh, interesting lime, man. I'm wondering, what sort of texture is that brush using? For the areas around the lime, I mean. Makes it kind of look like you're working on a canvas.
But those anatomy drawings are great, man! I love the red and blue action you've got going on. Almost reminds me of Yoji Shinkawa a bit.

@()nion Thanks man! Dude...that movie is is too awesome. Haha...I wouldn't convince them...I would drag them to the movie...hehe :D
@staticpen Hey there:)
Yeah the mixture of the red in blue really is fun. I love mixing the different colored inks. Yoji Shinkawa...I need to look him up. Not too familiar with that name.
*edit* *smacks himself in the head* oh yeah the insanely cool artist...that did metal gear solid...one of my favorite games...gah totally forgot his name.
The brush actually is a textured brush with actually a canvas texture in it. Anyway, here is the abr file. It really is a cool brush I liked making. It should work with cs2 and higher, Lower versions might not work.
here is the link to it- http://www.divshare.com/download/4881265-6f4
some examples of it...

@Vulgar- Sweet man, really happy you like those last ones.
@staticpen Thanks man! Hahaha...yeah I'm using quite a few things with those last couple of pieces. I honestly was playing around with new techniques. Mainly I'm sticking with the round and as you mentioned it's sorta a palette shape brush for the sharp edges. Ummm...also using the cloner tool in with the finger painting tool to get different effects.
@n1va Kudos man and no prob for the comments. Enjoy the brush:)
little updates here again. So I brought a crap load of art supplies from DickBlick.com recently. I'm getting back into some traditional painting
and watercolors and breaking out the markers while I'm at it and pens and pencils. I'm really excited and I got my first moleskine sketchbooks today in the mail. So more anatomy studies for tomorrow. I'm contemplating getting actual medical anatomy books and atlases. I need more material on bone structures I feel and I'm not seeing that in alot of the art based books. Observation I made couple days ago...I hardly have any portraits...not even drawings of them... So I need to hit that freaking hard. I need to break all safe zones.
Another environment today. This one is based loosely over one of the thumbnails I did in a previous page.

@luness -Dude your stuff just rocks! No prob, I love you work and thanks for the kind words.
@staticpen-The work from Guild Wars is sooooo awesome. Thanks for the compliments:)
Had a great time back East and got to visit some relatives and old friends. Got to see my old town also in New Jersey. Very nostalgic visiting those places and I had a good time in the city and at the shore. Got to go to the "Metropolitan Museum of Art" which was just jaw dropping. Practically got to see everything thing there. Hands down the best art museum ever that I had went to...EVER!!! I could spent weeks on ends in there staring at the likes of works from Degas, Van Gogh, Monet, Dali, Renoir, Sargent...and oh so many more that the list would go on for pages...hell...that's just scratching the tip of the iceberg...that place would send any archaeologist's head spinning with all the sculptures and artifacts from hundreds of different civilizations in there. Everybody I think should go there it least once or twice.
Really had a awesome time and had some damn fine food and real pizza. I'm going on diet now:)
Got myself a good beach hat also at the shore that I'll probably wear all the time now. I used to wear one a lot when I was alittle kid.
I'm still alittle out of wack with the time zones being back in the West Coast with the three hour time difference. I did some drawings though in my handy little Moleskine book while out there.

@a la bapsi-Thanks man and no prob with the help. I'm looking forward to seeing those paintings from you :D
@ekler-I use photoshop for the most part. Usually the basic round brush is my favorite friend and I do have a couple custom brushes. I believe on the last page I hosted one of my custom brushes so free feel to use it. It's basically a round brush except it has a canvas texture in it.
@Grafguy-thanks:)
Alright...more on that face. That scarf has been pretty interesting tackling...my head hurts just alittle.

hey hey hey!! That's pretty great, man. Definitely developing some skillls, haha. I really dig your color scheme here, and that scarf texture is out of control. Well done!

I agree about the face, nice job. The texturing on the scarf is pretty cool too.

@staticpen Thanks man...I tell you that scarf was the trickiest one of them all in this piece.
@AA-ron Thanks:)
Well...it's done. Think I got a lot out of this one so onward to the next. I included a gif animation with this...good god this started rough now that I look back on it.

Looks like you've learned a lot! Maybe I can dump some thoughts that I saw looking over it in hopes it helps in the future -
-The face seems to have some foundation flaws you can see in your sketch, most notably the lack of parallel structure between the mouth/nose and the eyes. The perspective of the far eye should 'wrap' a bit more around the head?
- Face could have more dimension through contrast and color variation - more shadow to define the different shapes.
-the scarf details are good, though the different detailing methods really stand out when they are next to each other (cloth texture brush beside soft brush?)

The environments are really cool. Very painterly texture.
I think you need to work a bit on faces from imagination. There is too much guessing how it looks like. I recommend taking look at Kevin Chen demos on heads - http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1432
Cheers.

Jakers, and Farvus thanks guys for the feedback and comments. Always appreciated by me.
I differently agree with working from the imagination more.
So it's midnight here in AZ and I'm bored and can't sleep.......so I'm painting some environments from ref. Hmmmm...still not sure on the glacier piece but the other ones came out not bad.

Toxdel say - here some star for you!
- But seriously awesome envo ref studies you did in that last post. I love how you somehow seemed to really capture the action of the falls in a painting. And don't get me started on the colors!!

The landscape studies look good. i like the boldness of the brushstrokes, but you might want to ease down in the sky department. It looks okay in the last one, but for example in the third on in the earlier post, it seems there is some major AA fire coming from the mountains :P Also, in the last one you seem to use a little less white, which makes it slightly friendlier for the eye. The ground could use a little more depth though, in tone and color.

Hey yoitisi,
Haha, man I hear you on those skies...I tend to go awol on them sometimes. Must restrain thyself. Maybe I should add some flames to that third one. Your dead right about the grass in the last one. I can't let that one go...not going to have flat grass and hillsides...no way...no sir...at it's current state it looks like green sludge...arghh :frustrated:
Fixed it up :D
Thanks yoitisi

Gah...I start doing environments and I want to do more and more of them now. It's like I can't resist it. I almost get sucked into it. So today I want to do some more and then back to the Sargent studies and anatomy later this week. I got a bone to pick with...er...bones...

Amazing recent work! That portrait is sweet, you obviously learned tons from it, judging from the earlier WIPs. Good job :)
But the real improvement here is in your enviros. Big, big pat on the back is deserved! Beautiful work, the brushstrokes, depth, values etc, all great. I'd suggest maybe to tone down the saturation a bit sometimes, but that's me being picky. Keep up the amazing work!

Hi Trashy, thanks so much for dropping by my little sb, and thanks for the advice!
Great improvment from the first couple of posts, love the 'girl in scarf' and [as AsaB said] those enviros are just beautiful, amazing brushstrokes and colour!
Nice work you've got a bloody awesome rendering style.
Keep at it,

Way overdue, but thanks for your comment on my sketchbook a million years ago. :D
with my limited knowledge I have to say I love the environments. Very, very nice. Especially the waterfall between the rocks, takes my breath away. That said, in comparison to the portrait from page 7 the girl in scarf is more well done technically but less in terms of mood and appeal... ie not much diff between light and dark, dull colours, etc. You could try to play around with colour and lighting to give the portrait that special boost. :D

I like the landscapes and great work with the latest portrait! The details on that scarf are inhuman and yet they don't steal attention in a bad way. I agree with Xinleh about the colours (mainly skintones) looking a bit dull though. The shadows seem grey as a rule which makes the skin look more like plastic. Maybe some ref studies could help carry that vividity you have on the landscapes to the portraits.
Keep them coming, I really admire your painterly use of Photoshop!

@algenpfleger-haha...nah...your the one that rocks dude:D All done in photoshop and thanks for the nice words.
@AsaB-Thank you so much:)
@JailHouseRock- No prob Matt and thank you.
@xinleh- Thank you. I really agree with the lighting with the portrait. I think just alittle more saturation and colors will do it for sure.
@Vulgar` -One day I will live there:)
@smuli -Thanks man and yeah I think doing these landscape studies
might help my colors translate better to the portraits as well if not everything else. I know that portrait needs that extra hit. Thanks man for coming by.
@kelly x-Thanks and right now I'm sticking with just photoshop. Hehe...he is a lumpy fellow isn't he :D
Thanks again guys.
Alright so this weekend I'll really start on those Sargent studies and hit the sketchbooks again. I'm locking away my pens and wanna get down and dirty with the pencils. Anyway, gonna get some shut eye early tonight and get up early tomorrow. Here's two more environments from ref.

Nice smoke environment. When you say from ref, how similar does it look to the actual picture? How much do you change? Or do you use multiple reference images?

you really have some confident brushstrokes :) firstly they are quite impressive but on second thought they come along rather messy and a bit too rough for my tase... mybe you should try to bring in some more controll and keep an eye on the textures... I know this is a sb and stuff in here is not suposed to be finished... hehehehe
however this is good stuff in here and I'll keep watching your progress :)

Woo! Love those enviros, dude. How long did it take you to make one? Looks like it was a speedpaint. I wish I can paint enviros like this, seriously. Did you channel yourself some Bumskee? It has that same epic feel, which I think is awesome.
Keep going. I am inspired by your enviros.

Nice to see your improvement and dedication. I like your pen and ink drawings most, especially the trees from the first page. Also your painting, it has a great illustrative style. no crits ;-) i mean i like giving constructive critisism, and sometimes i look at a sb and know right away what to say, but on yours i'll just go with a "keep up, man"

Dude I'm pretty impressed with your experimentation with your brushes in your landscape studies - its like a step further than I was willing to take mine...how long do you spend on each one approximately? are you able to paint these without color sampling or do you like to double check your color choices a lot? great :)

Hey Guys,
staticpen-Always happy hearing from you bud. Thanks man;)
agelaos-will do and I'll keep hammering at it.
c@s-Thanks
AA-ron-Thanks man
()nion- Hello there:) I'm studying from a single photograph for most of the studies. The key thing I'm trying to get from these studies is value and color so I'm not aiming for all the details. I'd say the paintings are a alot looser then the actual photos. Hope that sorta answers your question. thanks man.
lilou- Thanks lilou. Yeah, these are sorta on the loose end of the spectrum. I'll continue to tighten up these pieces for sure as I progress.
xinleh-Thanks
lukavi-Great to hear from you man. Yeah most I guess I would pit in the speed paint area. Most ranged from 1-2 hours at most or less. sometimes they do vary though. Dunno, sometimes I can nail it down fast...other times not so much. Definitely channeling some Bumskee and Idiot Apathy. I love those dudes. Thanks again lukavi for stopping by and hey keep up the great character works.
Kfeeras cheers man and thanks for the cool words.
kelly x lumpy says hi back:)
Eerin- Thanks man
ekler-Thanks
Jakers-Thanks man I appreciate it. I'd say for a estimate 1-2 hours at the most for each. No color sampling as far as the studies. I'm just really eyeballing the images trying to get it right. Thanks again man:)
You guys all rock!
Well, been away for a tiny bit. College started again so I sorta had to get into the swing of that again. I think I'm rebounding now though so I can get back into a painting frenzy. Only got one little update for now but I'm gonna
get into the eow this week. Got some planning and illustrations to do for my portfolio.
