This is an Illustration of a Wizard that uses spells to control any kind of yarn.
The second picture is a quick example of his action armour covering the face.

This is awesome. The rendering is insane and the concept is very original (minus the wizard part). I love the minute details you put in this thing, so a do believe a HI-RES imaged is in order.

As the others have said, great rendering. Love the concept as well, original.

I do think he's going to have a hard time holding onto that axe perhaps, mainly because of the roundest of the shaft and the extreme weight/proportion of the blade. I'm not sure you could keep the blade in any direction but down let alone hit anybody. Not really important, but can be icing on the cake.

Its great to see you didn't go for the same old Gandalf as a lot of people do. DOn't get me wrong, Gandalf is one of the greatest characters in living history (the best?), but he is best left to Alan Lee :)
I love the concept, and I love your style of rendering. Beautiful work mate!

this is a cool concept. The painting is very well done. I'm unsure about a couple things:

I like his hood, its cool the way it is cut organically, but in the action example you provided it seems like he would have difficulty to see? And it doesn't look like it would protect him, so why would he drape it like that?

So he has the ability to control yarn....is his axe made up of this magical yarn, and it changed properties or has the properties of steel? if that is the case, why would he make it into an axe? wouldn't close combat pose more danger to him, especially without armor? Why not have armor made out of this yarn?

What does his red eye piece do? Is there some relationship to that and the magical yarn?

Just some thoughts, maybe I missed something, but I really like this concept with the magical yarn. You could go a lot of directions with it. I think its more important than the man at this point.

Thanks for posting.

Very nice work overall, love those hands. However, I feel like the rendering on the axe doesn't quite match up to the rest of the piece, it just doesn't feel like metal. Another suggestion (nitpick) would be to soften the edges on his left shoulder to push it back a little more. Once again, good stuff and interesting concept.

neato. nice rendering on the materials. some flat spots here and there where you could have pushed the contrast and lighting, but overall very cool.

That second one is tight, dude. Only crits I would have are that your proportions are a bit stretched out, and I would keep pulling out textures to clarify materials but other than that... stylin -

Hi everyone,

I have been really busy and out of home, so took me to long to rely.

VashTheStampede: Thank you very much!

Stark: Thanks! Yes I have posted a few HI-RES.

Idiot Apathy: Thanks! Sure should be difficult to hold an axe that big, the thing is that the Yarn is holding the axe ;)

Crawdad Jones: Thanks, I really appreciated it.

Capprotti: Thanks!!!

space-sprayer: Thanks dude! I like Gandalf as well. I though a feeling of the classic wizard could be nice, so I have include it.

davidhburton: Thank you. Was a good practice the whole thing but specially the head.

benzo: Hi, He cover he would have difficulty to see, that is why he is wearing a red monocle, to see trough. He uses this sort of Hut-Mask to make his appearance a bit less human-like, and protect him self from the blood splashes ;)
His axe is made of stone. Thanks for the interest, is cool to explain things about the character.

mysticaldonkey: Thanks mate, the axe is made from a stone, may be a bit no clear. Thanks for the advise.

Night~: thank you.

ColdKodiak: Thanks I'm glad you like it.

Mr. Visions: I'll have a look to the proportions, Thanks you.

Thanks all for the comments!!!

It is a great piece. Make me chuckle though. The tranistion is almost comedy...The serious wizard's new comb over falling in front of his eyes while he poses menacingly..superb

Beautifully rendered, and a great concept to boot.

A couple of nit-picky crits:

1 - The lightbulb-shaped design on the axe head doesn't quite line up with the perspective of the axe itself. Its a bit flat.

2 - in the first image, the left side of his hood looks like its being propped up by something inside- in other words a little poofy looking for what I assume is supposed to be heavy leather.

Other than, fantastic!

lovely render! excelletn style....

has the axe got carvings on? i'm not clear what the patterns are... other than that, the flaps on the hood don't look very protective, as it has been said it looks more of an annoyance than a protection, but i take it that's an original and creative design.

im having some trouble understanding the practicality of that hood, and why is his ax wrapped in yarn or silk?

Beautiful work, the detail is wonderful as is the character, and the idea of him controlling yarn, but It makes me wonder...what would he do with the yarn? I'm curious, do tell!! :)

I like it a lot! yes, a lot! The gloves, the leather-coat, the rings and the scrollcase in particular looks fantastic. The axe, is the weakest point imo, not the design, which is great, but the render is a bit uneven there, and it would take a lot of unnecesary strengh to hold the head upwards, instead of letting it "dangle". I'm not a fan of the red "laser-eye", but overall, it is a really great piece, and a cool character!

I like it, however there is a strong contract between the fine detailed and worked out elements such as the cloves, rings and the rather sketchy strings around the Axe hilt, it makes the image look unfinished. Also the perspective of his hood looks a bit of, it has so much volume on the right side.
The runes/circle Texture does somewhat not really match the Axes perspective, that makes the axe look flat.
Other than that its really good, i like the colours.

noshadowmaster: Hi, I understand that some things needs a explanation. This a character that I had to do the design and the story of him. As soon as I translate it to English I will post it. Explains a little bit the story and the characteristics and abilities of the character.

Chermilla: I know! but I can't imagine further than that :) Thanks!

stalsby: Thanks a lot man!!

Cloister: Thanks! In fact his is not holding the axe, I mean the weight of the axe, is the yarn that can take anything very heavy. He is holding it like that just for the Photo :) and the "laser-eye" it is just a red monocle, the character needed a red monocle because for the game and some "Esoteric" disciplines, the red is the representation of the Material energy, and on the eyes means that he can see The Material world, for the character is a filter to see things alive trough walls and objects on to certain distance.

R a n d i s : You are right man! there is a lot of things that has to be improved! Thanks a lot for the advices!
