ConceptArt.org is an incredibly valuable resource for me as an artist. Being able to see the works of the best in the field, and hear what they have to say, and even converse with them... it's so great.

This is why I'm disappointed that I've never stumbled upon an equivalent site for game designers.

Does one exist? I've found a myrid of boards about games. I've found a bunch of boards full of ameture game designers and programming. But I've never found a place where the real, true blue top dogs of game design hang out. The closest I get is the official boards of a certain video game, and then the only posts by the game designers are specifically about that games issues.

And it seems weird to me that there's no GameDesign.org. I mean, conceptartist are pretty nerdy, but game designers are NERDS. You'd think they'd be all about starting a message board and forming a web community with one another.

Thoughts? Feelings? Hopefully a super awesome link?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'd be all over that if I knew where to find such a site. There's the IGDA forums (http://www.igda.org/Forums/), but not many big names post there. Most of the public discussion of game designers seems to happen with posts and comments on their blogs.

www.Gamedev.net and www.Gamasutra.com have good forums. Gamedev.net to me is the same as CA. Learning to program though should be on your list, along withe game design. www.flipcode.org is good as well. I have not found a site completely dedicated to just game design but I don't think you'll ever find one that is not attached to a programming forum. www.MODDB.com is great site for modding and talking. Game design is also talked about a lot in there.

EDIT:: Btw Okelvin GREAT portfoio site. Nice and simple, I love it.:}

Let me organize this a bit.

:xbox:

it's true, they all inhabit each other's blogs:

www.costik.com
http://rome.ro
www.gamegirladvance.com
www.thechaosengine.com
www.raphkoster.com

Check their blogs for sites they link to.

a lot of game developers read The Escapist:
www.escapistmagazine.com

a place to post your games not unlike conceptart is Kongregate:
www.Kongregate.com

Some additional info for aspiring game designers can be found here:

http://www.sloperama.com/advice.html

There's also the link in my sig to info on the games industry, but mostly that's about art stuff.

I suspect that there isn't a singular community for designers the way there is here with artists because it is much harder to divorce game design from the other elements of game-making. An artist can leave the NDA’d work at work, and produce other art on the side without anyone else being involved. A game designer can’t do that as easily. Thus they* are more likely to stick to their own specific game forums, talking about whatever they are permitted to discuss about their primary work.

*Er, I guess that should be "we", but I'm a noobling to game design myself.
