Ooo...that time of the year already huh?
First off choosing a college that's right for you is like choosing shoes- what's right for one person might not be right for another. Do the homework here. Ask questions galore of the places you plan on applying to. When it comes right down to it, YOU'VE got to feel right there.
My best advice is to physically visit the places you really plan on attending and see what the place has to offer. See the quality of the work on the walls as well as the physical premises- make sure they have up-to-date equipment and other things that you might need nearby like a bookstore, food & housing. Talk to the people attending there as well; get their impressions and see if it's along the lines of what it is you're going for.
To answer your question, generally a bachelor's is a four year program. And don't be disappointed if you can't ace it in four years either. Some people take their own sweet time for all sorts of reasons (slower pace, finances, job, family issues, etc.). Again, this is YOUR journey.
One place you might want to look to start is here:

Hopefully that helps some.

Storyboard Dave: thanks. i think you misunderstood me on the first part. i know fall semseter deadlines are coming around soon but, i didnt mean i was that near to the time, sorry. i should clarify. i still have a couple years before it is that time but, i need to start looking now for mine and my parents benefit. always good to get a head start, in my opinion.
thanks.
PS. i'll try to get a list of a few colleges together and maybe then CA could give me their opinion on those colleges.

Here are a list of some of the big animation schools.
-California Institute of the Arts. They have very close ties with Disney, since Walt himself was a major founder.
-The Ringling School of Art and Design
-Sheridan
-The Academy of Art University
You can probably Google any of those names and come up with their websites. Those are the big four, pretty much. That's not to say that you couldn't get a good education elsewhere; there is just quite a tradition of success out of these. Make SURE that you are checking out the student work coming out of the facilities-- it's a huge indicator of the quality of education that you would recieve there.

While you're at it, ask ANY instituion where their alums are working. And while you're at it, ask them where their recent grads are working as well. Don't settle for that percentage crap either. You want to know that the school's grads are employed in the fields they studied in.
Since you're scouring about, I'd strongly suggest learning from working artists as well and not glorified educators. After all you want to learn what's going on in the field NOW and not some textbook theory.

Storyboard Dave: i totally agree with you on that. i want to go to college and at least get some basic degree in the fine arts. like a BFA or MFA but, if i have time and money i would like to get a higher degree. but, from people working in the field, is it really necessary to get an "amazing gold star" degree? or is it ok just to get a baisc fine arts degree and learn everything else from experience, pratice, self-taught, CA, etc., etc.?
thesinfulsaint: thank you. i will check those schools out when i get a chance. i have heard of sheridan and from what i hear it is pretty big and a good college.

What kind of art do you want to do or major in? I currently go to SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design. They have a pretty good gaming degree. It's also nearby Florida.
Doesn't Disney have a animation college in Florida? Someone told me that they did.

I don't believe that there is an actual school that's owned by Disney, but Ringling does have a good relationship with them. The desks used for 2D animation are from the old Florida studio; they were donated after it was shut down.
