Congrats to Evil_sloth for winning challenge #22, with special mention to Wolfbane for a close second, only one vote behind. Many awesome entries that round, good job guys.
The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline, and any medium (sans photograghy) is allowed.
Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.
The Topic:
Scene: Snow Battle
Figured this topic would be appropriate with all the recent unpleasant weather patterns some of us have been dealing with. Open to interpretion - the battle could be anything from a snowball fight to a full-scale arctic war, it only has to take place in a snowy location of some kind. No descriptions this time, illustrate the narrative with the image itself.
Thanks again to Keng for the topic suggestion!
The Deadline:
Wednesday, February 6th at midnight PST
About two weeks again. I don't know how busy everyone's been, but if there's enough support we could shift back into one-week deadlines. Post your opinions on the matter if you have any.

I'm for the bi-weekly format, as I have too much other stuff to do. :(
Considering I'm not of the regular participants, take that for what it's worth.

Stop picking my ideas when I don't have time for them :p
Hmm.. maybe I can still pull something off *looks at her to do list which stretches from one end of the room to the other ... then back again* o.0 err.. like I said, maybe...
Well, I'm not feeling too tired, I'll try to at least make it past the thumbnail stage this time.

Sounds like a great topic. Im not sure if I can get in on this one. I have a lot of animation to do, but if I work allday I should have time for this.
I'd say stick with the two week thing. Its nicer to have a long time so I can take it slow and do other studies too.

Great start Iwombat! It's not done yet is it?
BLAST IT. I was thinking about doing something like this for the That battle td thingamabob. Oh well, I'll be able to keep my mind on one track and come up with two snow battles. One for here and one for there. It killed me not to be able to be in the last one, so I will definitly be in this time. Waha. I've got no experience with snow, so its gonna be fun!

bladow! 3 hours tonight, i say nay to the 2 week deadline, just take a break from videogames or whatever and you can get it done no problem, deadlines don't wait for you
the biggest TC's with most contenders were with the 2-week deadline
I say we keep it this way.
Instead of a weekly "watch my speedpaint" you get to see a lot of qualitywork (look @ horsemen challenge)
Nice painting btw, i like the trees :D

I agree with Lewis, This topic is pretty hot, and 2 weeks will give a chance to everybody... Everyone's not home at the time, and some people take some time to click the TD forum.. oh well, i say we keep 2 weeks :)
Lost Planet anyone ?

Don't take this the wrong way Sloth, but I'd like to see some more painted environments in your work. Looking at some of your past TC entries and sketchbook, it seems like you fall back on matte painting for most anything where you want the environment to be an important element in the piece. If you do this too much it might turn into a troublesome crutch. The added elements in the WIP here are really cool and the image is impressive, but I believe It could be much better if you took the time to craft your environment like you do with your actors.

Thats a really great start but you should pay alot more attention to composition. Detail and lack thereof is a great way to direct the eye and if you make the whole thing equally as sharp it just doesnt have the same effect as a nice painted image. Also the fire images you used really dont work.
On second look... How are the legs/wheels on that tank supposed to work? One of the legs actually looks connected to the center of a wheel and it would kinda just make the leg spin around and break if it was driving.

If you lit the tank in the FG properly, it'll pop out and many compo problems would be solved right way, just an idea...

Well if you can't use photography, that means you couldn't do matte painting yeah?

Sweet crits guys, yeah my plan is to use it as a ref for a final. Like dynamic refing I guess. But it's cool cause you can move all the elements to get a better composition or design with out the draw back of spending 10 hours rendering each rock or something. And you look at the picture differently when you see that it is matte rather than completley hand painted. So as light said the tank legs don't read as retractable like I wanted them too.
But yeah, I tried to make sure in the last challenge I wouldn't be accused of using digital as a crutch. So I guess I'll have to post some oils before I can try this again lol...

eeyo, would totally love to see a drawing-only TC again. Didn't have the time to commit to the last one (Book scene) and I don't think I have the time for this one either but Ill try to make it through anyway.

Just a good old fashion snowball fight. I was originally gonna give them a bunch of everyday items modified for the purpose of shields and snowflingers, but.. decided to go simple instead, especially considering I wasn't expecting to get past the thumbnails, which I apparently have. Whoot!. Prolly gonna do a few more touches, and eventually redmember that hat in the corner.
Oh, and.. monitor still has horrid colour, so I apologize if any of my shading turned out neon again :P I swear it looks dark to me...
edit:
Update, think I'll leave it at that now.

My exams are over, so I'll definately stop by to shit over the pretty topic! >:D
Caddlewick, when using color I'd suggest not thinking dark-light, but cool-warm, especially in the initial stage. :)

yunks.ae - Good work man. Mongolian influence, interesting.
v0rbiss - Thanks for the advice, but I have no idea what you are talking about. I have been strictly b&w up to this point, and only recently started trying some monochromatics. I know nothing about color.

Well, I may as well reveal my WIP now. I may have bitten off more than I can chew with such an epic type composition. Might not be able to finish it, but I will certainly try. Good stuff from Prophet and Yungks! Good luck to everyone.

Plate is too busy I gues. :( If we had some balls or organisation skills whatsoever we could've made the new thread without him. (by "we" I mean "I", of course.:dead: )

Er, actually there's been sort of a problem - since the Thunderdome section was just reorganized, this section of the board now has restricted access for starting new threads. Since I have no mod powers of any kind, I can't make a voting thread until it's changed. I'll notify someone and see if they can change it back soon.
