View Full Version : An Obsession With Spitfires

My buddy MGH inspired me to draw a subject I haven't touched in 30 years and that I was thoroughly in awe with as a kid...the Spitfire. I'm at number 4 at present (and am now neglecting my kids, my wife, the cat, my work)....here's the second.

Hey MGH,
Your the seconed person whom I've come accross who has such a deep passion for WW2 aircraft such as myself. Your drawings are truly remarkable and inspiring. And would you belive it, I'm workin on an airbrush midterm project as we speak and it just happens to be a Spittfire also. Please excuse it's imcompleteness and lack of a "good sccaner". I just wanna show what I have so far. This is actually my first project in airbrush. For my next project I plan to airbrush a B-17 with heavy dog fighting around it. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/153811/sdg.jpg

You guys are awesome, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this story unfolds. I think a German Lugger is no match for the Spitfire though, unless he puts one up the gas pipe or maybe disables a flap or two.
I know, the guy in the Spitfire bails out and the 2 guys tumble to earth in hand to hand combat. Okay Dicksart and MGH, start drawing...

May 28th, 2003, 10:01 AM
The saga continues...although "ends" is probably more realistic.

Yeah i kinda thought i made em too big. Sux theres no erasing in airbrush, oh well. Hey, are you and dicksart 2 different people? kinda confused there :) What type of medium are you using, I wanna say prisma but I think I can see a little digital aspect to them. I'm not sure. Cant wait to see more.:btu:

Yeah, I'm the better looking one.
Both Dick and I are storyboarders for ads working mostly in Painter.

Don't believe everything MGH says. He's a bit dillusional ever since the operation.
Regarding your airbrush piece... I admire your courage. Just the thought of using a "real" airbrush makes me cringe. Don't forget to post when its done.

so this is where all the cool story board guys are hanging out. you all have some of the strongest drawing skills around. it must be the massive amount of work you have to get done and the need to be able to draw people in every kind of situation.

great work, nice spitfires even better pilots.

I'm confused. What the hell is the zombie pilot doing in the Spitfire?
Damn boarders...they never read the script.

Dan Milligan
May 29th, 2003, 03:35 PM
Ya see Rich, the dead pilot returns from the grave to seek.....hang on, oh my god! What's happened to you man... It all that commerical boarding. It only makes sense to you if it ends with a mom holding a tub of margarine. Please GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOO.....

Now we're talking fun!http://homepage.mac.com/stuartgodfrey/.Pictures/Concept/marg.jpg

MGH
May 29th, 2003, 05:18 PM
No, no, no, no, no....
Ok, here's the story so far. The German guy got killed when Dick's Spitfire shot his parashute away. The guy that Dan had crawling out of the grave was supposed to be the German. And it was the 'undead' German that was about to strafe our English dude (who is still very much alive) in Dick's last one....
Now, having said that, what we've had in this thread, ladies and germs, is a bit of artistic improv storytelling. One person started a story (Dick), I added to it, then Dan added to it, etc, etc. The problem with improv story telling is also the basis of it's brilliance. One person starts the story but has very little or no control on how it's shaped . The resposibility of the people who pick up on it, although incorporating a 'tie-in' or 'common element' as the story goes on is just to keep it entertaining.
So....it seems even though we have a chick selling margarine from a cockpit that's ok. I think we just need to fill in a couple of holes to show how we got there.

After having done this early today I decided that it's now out of sequence - oh well, what the hell. I'll get back on the wagon with the next one - I promise.

here's the final version. Just a few add-on's here and there. A casual bomber formation and engin parts on the spitt. The original size is14'' x 17''. So you cant see the flamin FW-F-190, only the smoke trail next to the spitt. Next project, A King Tiger tank. Stay tuned.... http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/153811/Achtungspittfire!.jpg
