nice, but I think you should work a little more on the head, add more depth and volume with shadows, good first though, real nice.

getting there... his left wrist seems to disappear to a point, and his neck seems to need some work- looks a bit triangular at the minute.

My suggestion would be to paint over the reference. You really get an idea of how the colors work, and why they work the way they do. You also become hyper aware of the anatomy... even try just sketching over it to give you an idea of how the lines work. Good start. Keep it up :chug:

I've never claimed that this is art.

Yeah, Muscle mags and the like are great reference. Another thing that helped me allot was buying a small model of a human skeleton sculpting the muscles one by one using a medical anatomy book. It really gives you a feel for how everything works in 3D.
artdood69: Your crits are astute and well thought out. :P

come on man... thats cold, we all have to start somewhere, who knows, this guy could be ur mentor one day.
my crit/comment, would be to go darker, ur shading is to bland, look in the area between his arms, its almost black, then look at yours, big diff!
keep at it, a little bit at a time u'll get better!

I actually picked up a pretty decent one the other day for 7 bucks in the clearance section of Waldens.
