There is an overwhelming and intimidating amount of talent on this forum; it is surely an honor to be here.

Here is the cover for a book I’ve made called “LUCID”,
I’ll be showing it at the enormous comic-book related convention held in San Diego this month.
This piece was done using acrylic on paper.

Maybe you guys can help me with a small dilemma…
A friend saw this painting and noticed that the frame of the glasses do not cast a shadow, while every other element of the face does.
This doesn’t particularly bother me, but now it’s in the back of my head…. Should I add a shadow?

Also since I don’t own a scanner, I took this picture with a digital camera, does anyone know the proper way to do this?

Any other C&C are always welcomed and encouraged.

-Thanx.

Wow! well first of all I want to welcome you to concept art and let you know that this is a great piece. This is acrylics? Amazing!

The cast shadow doesn't bother me, but I think it would be kinda cool to see what it would look like with it on. What you can do is take it into photoshop or painter, and paint it there, if you like the way it looks, then you can go back to the original and paint it.

Can you show us more? :)

James,

this is an exciting piece of art. I really appreciate the rude way you used your brushes! The graphical appeal of it is exqusite as well. Very good work, it pleases me a lot.

Best!

Are you going to fill in those spaces of white? Also, something about the hands fingers doesn't seem right, I thnk it is the bent fingers on the right. Anyways, very nice painting, are you selling it anywhere?

Of course he's not going to fill those. That would ruin it. I think. ;-)

Extremely cool picture, really strong. It has an art feeling yet it's a concept too. I agree with Marko on the touches, they are great!

Welcome!

Excellent concept piece, but many of the proportions and alignments (hand/fingers, eyes, ears) are noticeibly off. Was that intentional?

A lot of the praise has already been said. Great work!

I am in favor of adding the shadows from the rims of the glasses. I think it would add more dimension/depth. Definitely try it in photoshop first! It's a great way to change things around without committing.

Welcome...from someone who's also only been here a few days.

tres beau. You know it could be left alone without adding the little shadow under the glasses, but if you added a subtle shadow and light refraction as well it might do the trick. but I think it looks great as it is. I did a little photoshop add in if you want to see it, but I won't post it without your consent.

great work! post more.

Mitch,
I would like to see your touch-up.
I have Photoshop, but I dont know how to use it.

A reflection...hmmmm, I never thought of that.
pretty scary though, Sargent does great reflections on glasses
but they seem to be done in one stroke, meaning I get one shot at it, and prey that it works.

James here it is, It's very subtle, I think you might be able to pull it off much better with your technique, it's just an idea.
I really love this piece the way it is.
