Hi!

This is a wip of my entry for SPECTRUM 14 and EXPOSE 5. I wanted to paint something with a dragon--something mysterious and fantastical.

It all started from an image I saw in my head just before going to bed. I just had to sketch it quickly before sleep..

As a kid, I've always been fasinated by adventure stories and films--especially the ones that take place undersea. And so I pictured my diver discovering something enormus in the black abyss..

Here are some sketches of what I pictured the sea dragon may look like..

Very cool sketches, would love to see what will come out of this.

The 3rd and 4rd remind me of some pages out of the Art of Star Wars I with the seamonsters :P Ever seen it?

This is going to be a great thread to watch, not just for learning the process but for sheer enjoyment. I dig everything so far, can't wait to see more!

cool, i like how the dragon is friendly and humerous. :) the mean fierce dragon seems to appear a little too often in movies and stuff. its a nice change.

Yoitisi- Thanks for the comment..Yeah I think I saw that film a while back...I'll have to check it out ! But I haven't seen the book.. I want this pice to have more of an animation or children's illustration feel to it.

Corrick-Thanks so much!

Very cool indeed :) can't wait to see more of the progress

Only thing I'm not such a fan of are the big flippers that are his hind legs. Looking at the evolution of whales and stuff, you see that their arms changed to this shape, not the legs. As a propulsion it is less efficient this way...but then, it's a children's illustration so who cares ;)

That same thing was probably the only thing that looked halfway out of place in this color sketch. The fins seem either too big or just plain superfluous. Other than that, it's great!

Looking at it again, I'm beginning to agree with yoitisi and Corrick. I think you could lose the back fins entirely. Either that or make them finnier or featherier so they match the rest of him.
