I figure that most pro's don't have time to take on apprentices but is it something that can be/is done nowadays? Do you have to be a graduate in order to become one?
I don't know anything about the process, and I'm interested in it as a possibility as part of me artistic development.
(If there was already a topic started about this, I'm sorry and please direct me to it.)

Apprenticeships?
I've never heard of any in this field. I'm not saying there aren't any out there but in all of these years of working, I've never heard of anyone getting hired for an apprenticeship in art.
I've always thought that apprenticeships only happened for those professions that have internal hiearchies like masons and carpenters- where they have apprentices who would eventually rise in the ranks and become journeymen, masters, etc..

I think the closest you'll get now adays is an internship. It would depend on what field you want to get into. In something like animation or illustration you could probably get a part time internship somewhere. you could meet a bunch of people in the field get an idea of how the pipelines work. Working environment and what kind of things you need to strengthen in order to be successful.

We have internships in the games industry. Typically these positions are for college students or college grads. The internships exist to fill the gap between education and a proper job.

Maybe my brain is set on 1812 when there was such a thing as apprenticeships in art.
Though I think it would be really great to have the opportunity to study with another artist. I'll check out the internship thing...
Thank you for your replies~
