I´m just reasoning with my boss why I definitely have to have one ... and that he has to pay for the Wacom board I want ... Fortunately I´m still not fired.

Do you have any idea the kind of PC you could build for that price.
One of my flatmates has a Mac and, yeah, OSX is quite nice. I use it myself sometimes. But at that price it's utterly utterly extortionate.
I'm not anti-mac, but If I'm going to spend money on a Mac, it's going to be for OSX and not the hardware. Apple are renown for marketing 'manipulations' as well.

Don't get me started on price/value ratio on a mac, I have very conflicting feelings on the subject :grumble:
Ceenda/ the existing G4 were looooong overdue a replacement, and had a shameless marketing behind them in the end (my opinion...) but I also think that this new G5 processor (a derivative of an uber IBM server processor, think it was called power4) is going to give you so much speed and raw power that you need a proworkstation to match it.
and you get up to 8 freaking gigs of ram. (try to max that out and then look at the price)
but when you get a Mac, you get more work done than on a pc simply because there are so few games on the platform.:D
I had Window 2000 before, and it crashed allthe time, osx doesn't. that's its strenght.

I don't know if its true or not... but there is a lot of talk around the net on how Apple lied about the specs.
Just linking, not advocating:

Beware of the infamous marketing spin from Steve Jobs. He's known for lying about his hardware, and this new machine is no exception. While I'm sure it's a terrific piece of equipment, it's certainly not what they claim on the Apple site. And as others have mentioned, stupid expensive. If it's just a graphics rig you want, you can build a much more powerful PC with that kind of cash.
EDIT** whoa.. Toaster put up the same link I had here at the same time I did. Yes, the content in that article is true.
Note: I'm not a Mac hater. I used to use a G4 running OS9 at my job everyday, and I've even played around with OSX and think it's quite nifty. But, like anything else, they have their Pros & Cons. Beware the Apple spin.

The only way to find out is to crunch some photoshop test.
that is all I care about.
but yes, they are all a bunch of liers and will trow their own mothers in a package deal, if that sells more units.
it looks dashing tough (a bit like an oversized electric shaver...)

Macs are for people who want to get work done and not waste time fooling around with a stupid, buggy, mass marketed OS like windows. If you look at the majority of graphic artists, serious webdesigners, audio specialists, you'll find that they use Macs. Macs aren't toys that are aimed at any target demographic that a kid goofy kid named "Steven" would sell to.
I used to be a PC person and I felt the same way about Macs that a lot of people did. I figured that they were bad because everybody was so dependent on Windows machines. I used an old iMac for the first time, and I loved it. Everything about was so much simpler and leaner. I didn't get any stupid error mssages for the simplest of tasks.
I have G4 tower at home now and absolutely love it. I dread going to work at my seasonal position at the photolab simply because I have to deal with PCs. Honestly, if I was allowed to work with Mac OS X instead of my Windows XP machine, I'd get so much more work done.

I don't agree with your anti-pc stuff.
But...
I like Macs too. They're just so expensive :-/ they look great though.
BTW. I have more hang problems on Macs than on my XP machine. But that's maybe because i know how to treat her well ;-)
Would love to have my PC built into a nice case

Man, I'm reluctant to stick my toe in this pond but the only computers I've ever used have been Macs. You can tweak numbers and bench test speeds all you want to find out who's the "king of speed and power" but I’ll tell you this, I've been running OSX for the past year and my machine has yet to crash. And yes, you won't find the same number of games, bells and whistles for the Mac as you will for PC, but generally the stuff that is available for Mac has been proven in the marketplace to be the best of the bunch and therefore worth the cost of programming it for the Mac platform. The simplicity, design elegance and seamless integration between Apple products make it the only computer I want to use. It does cost more, but then, a Ferrari is a few bucks more than Camry.

Macs aren't toys that are aimed at any target demographic that a kid goofy kid named "Steven" would sell to.Heh... I loathe that Steven kid, but... I build all my own PC's. I don't need Dell to do it for me. Try that with a Mac. And... speaking of goofy kids... let's not forget who Apple chose for their ad campaign.
