Me and a friend had a discussion today, over what artists from Sweden that were know abroad. He said Strindberg and Zorn. I must admit that I have no idea, maybe Ive seen Zorn in an art-history book sometime. It would be fun to hear from U peeps "abroad" (non-Swedish) waht swedish artists U heard about? ;)
Also - are there any well known concept artists i Sweden and if soo - who are they?
Also - Ive heard a rumour that the dude doing the posters for fellowship of the ring is a Swede, but I have no idea who it is?
Thanx for any opinions an ideas :D

Zorn is pretty well known among those who know about such things...

I believe Carl Larsson might be one of the more known Swedes. Not near the fame of Anders Zorn and only, as Elwell put it, "among those who know about such things".
I know I've heard Craig Mullins mention him more than once, I think it was something about his wife having lots of books with Larsson's art.
Bruno Liljefors, Hanna (Hirsch) Pauli, Carl Milles, Ernst Josephson and Eugene Jansson might also be known to some andprobably quite few...if any.
Then we've got Ilon Wikland (who wasn't born in sweden, but moved here when she was 14 in 1944). She's not a traditional painter artist in the Zorn kind of way, and probably not known by her name, but her work is really wide spread. She has illustrated practically all of Astrid Lindgrens' books. So her work has probably been seen by more eyes than Zorn's has.

Thanx guys
I never thought that darn photo-copying mainstream Larsson (dont take me to serious) were so well known!
Josefsson was a great painter, but he was put in the loony-bin at young age, he was never satisfied with his work.
Yes, Jester, Munch was from Norway (and he were loony too!).
