I felt like making a thread where i could showcase alot of my art that i generally don't feel is good enough for thread by itself. So have been posted before, but hopefully seeing them all together will make them more specatular... haha specatular...anyways...
oh yeah... and if you don't like work that uses references turn away because these are mostly all studies.

nice collection, friend :)
there really are some kickass pieces..
aside the mentioned, i find the no-ref-head with the blueish/purplish background stunning, as well as the portrait of bloodstone.
and the girl-you-don't-know-who-is... a cool portraiture and i'm almost 100% sure that it is natalie portman in "the professional"
the first one has a little bit of a daarken feel to it.
it looks like you use a rake brush very early in your picture building process, right?

Very nice stuff... dam, I got all excited to say "Natalie Portman in Leon!" when I was going thru it, but then I got all sad because everyone else had beat me to it. :(

thanks everyone, yeah i really like the last one too, i did that last night and i completely forgot how i started it... To be honest i was fueled with inspiration from Mike Huddleston (http://www.starland.com/sus/images/010214TheCoffin.jpg)
and John U. Abrahamson(http://www.angelfire.com/biz4/jua/)
I'll try to do more similar to it.
and oh yeah, i knew that was portman... :) maybe i should have added a  to hint sarcasm

Yeah, really nice stuff. You have a really unique approach to color and value. It is what makes your work stand out from others. I agree that the last piece is the strongest, but I also was impressed by the bust-close-up (Not just for obvious reasons, but because it is very well painted....).
My hat's off to you!

VERY NICE!
I like the frosty blue highlights on the “ girl you dislike”. It says a lot about her personality. You did a great job on the caricature style portraits. I also like your use of colors, very bold and daring.
IMPRESSIVE!!!

I wish girls I dislike would remove their shirts for me. Sure would make me like them alot more.
And oh yeah, that's Natalie Por- whoops, nevermind.
Excellent portraits. Your colors are fat, but that's phat.

Holy crap in a hat, Davi, the improvement in your craft is frightening. Now I'd like to see you using what you've learned to do some original work. I'm thoroughly impressed. Good stuff.

I agree 100% with Mitch on this one. That back reference is awesome. I love the pose and the energy you captured with it. Thanks for the dump, this was a real treat.

the portrait that you mentioned you don't know who it is....here's my crack at it.....I think it's Natalie Portman in the movie "The Professional".....she was like 12 years old in that movie.:)

You're extremely talented Davi. I love the energy you put into each of your pieces... it'd be far to difficult to select a favorite.

hey davi, they are great ref or no ref. you have really taken it up a notch.
on a side note i am assuming that you are using painter for these. if so can you by any chance tell a painter newb like myself what brushes and technique u used for the last one. maybe brush settings and what not. if not i understand, houdini could not share his tricks, but if you can let me know something i would be forever in your debt.

I use a custom brush that is basicly like oil pastel and the 'just add water tool', so basicly if you just use the oil pastel and then the blender to make everything smooth you'll get the same thing i got here.
remember... it's not the size of the brush that matters... it's how you...blend it.
thanks again guys :]
