hey there armetage, nice start! I believe i've seen you on GF some time ago, i remember this (http://robin.reign.se/Mrsmithweb.jpg) image.
i think your latest piece(syndaren) looks very promising, one crit would be the background and sky, looks like there's too much light grey.
are you attending any art classes? life drawing?
keep posting!

Hurricane: thx man!
Notic: hello there!, thx for your support ^^, yeah im attending to art classes, "kroki" life drawing etc etc.. How about you? Do you go in school or ?
About the background, ive actually changed it into blue instead of red in the latest version.. Think im pretty pleased with it now.. I know how too change the light so it looks more realistic, but i dont want that in this picture .
Best Regards Robin

Great work on these last posts. Been a while since I've been here. Two things to say tho, try and use more confident strokes when doing your pencil sketches, you seem to have a etchy way to drawing. And secondly, would like to see some pencil sketches you have taken at least 2-3 hours on. Keep up the good work.

Nice sketches, robin!
Its fun to see that your keeping at it. It will pay off big time later on!
What I can see you are drawing from reference often? anime and manga is nice but it's really good to draw from life also.
I think thats the best way to learn how to make nice rednerings and also learn how the light falls over objects.
Your drawings are really good and full of color, wich I like, but I think you should try to turn down the hue (kulörthet?) to make other things pop out more. I know i have seen your drawings in Stahlbergs paintovers?
I like your sketchbook, keep it up!
cheers :]

Anyhow.. im trying to learn as much as possible about light and form atm. The anime/manga sketches is just for fun, i like manga alot but im not drawing it very much actually. Oh and yes stahlberg has done paintover for me so it possible that you have seen me there aswell

hey eheh I like colours especially in the 2 pieces you spent i think more time into, the guy kneeling and the angel guy, i like them, i think the composition is good, and also forms and lightining are done well i think eeheheh, but it looks like they are mostly all not finished....i think that you are looking for the right composition for the angel guy so that`s why you`re not finishing....but for example the kneeling guy, could usemore refinement in the it`s environment and the other drawings too but i guess those are just sketches and the finished ones re too big to be scanned? eheheh well if that`s so then make some photos!!! ehehe anyway i think you should get the kneeling guy to a finished state, it looks good for me and well you should be more than able to make it look great! ehehe and the same goes for the angel guy XD i actually like him more :) and his background uhm...i think i like the last one better...eheheh
really want to see them finished!!

here are updates of the angel guy, im chaning saturation and background at the moment. I want too make the background looking chaos like, with some cool stuffs going on , since this guys is really badass but still half human.
For those who are interessted, here is my original story for this picture(but i think the image have changed direction during time)
From the deeps of the sea the sea God came took my lovers life, trapped for eternity within the water. I turned myself to the darkness for help... It answered my call.. what is this feeling... This void of emptiness.. all this anger.. all these powers.. Ive finally got my lover back(in the sphere) and the sea God is no more. But my lust for blood isnt over.. I cant controll myself, it feels like something dark inside of me is growing more and more.

Some fantastic work here! Thematically awesome, but you've obviously not let the theme get in the way of developing technique and style. Nice!
Camara
June 15th, 2007, 01:54 PM
Don´t be offended but I am confused. Some images are very good, others are bad,you don´t have a clear style,is always changing;the anatomy is very good in some of your pics but weird in others. You don´t have an ascendent progression line, your work jumps from very good to weird and the signatures are hardly the same in each pic...seems to be two or more different persons working on this SB.All this work is yours?
armetage
June 15th, 2007, 02:43 PM
Camara: Well some of my images are kinda old, some are made fast without much thinking.. Its not very often i really take the time too make the proportions right etc so well i guess thats my answer. Im lazy sometimes but also on some of my eariler images the anatomy is really changing since i only knew a few thing so sometimes the images became good and sometimes not.. Im still working on that anatomy. And yes all of those images are mine and made by me, if not otherwise stated above or below the image(like the carlos huantes studies).

Hey thanks again for the help with my picture in the WIP section!
For a post on the last page, with the character in your avatar, I think I like the larger image better also so you can understand his surroundings...and there is good intention with your idea of adding sparks so I think it would look nice - though there is already decent eye morement.
For the one you just posted, I like the dream-like colors of the top left.
I looked through here once before and there was a paintover of it with the characters closer together - it seemed to create a more impactful conflict. I think though with this one, what you have might better depict the story, seeing as your character is being interrupted as he goes about refreshing the forest.
Neat stuff!

I think both are good. Close together is more tense and exciting.
However, I think that the way you presently have it (further apart), may be better for story purposes!
Just a different mood based on where you put them. Up to you of course ;)

Hey, Void of spirits, awesome! And your last sketches look really good to.. what kinda paper and pens do you use mostly?
armetage
September 29th, 2007, 04:50 AM
thx crisis!
well mostly any paper i can find.. just regular printer paper / 120g GARI paper / other cheap sketchpads found in regular swedish stores. In special occasion i also use my Bienfang graphics 360 100% translucent marker paper combined with copic markers or prisma color virthin pencils (ordered from the US since sweden doenst seems to have the paper nor prismacolor pencils)
Pens: koh-i-noor is my favorites (HB-6B tends too be my range)
Staedtler.
Mechanical lead with faber castell 2B
I also got some prisma color pencil with totaly kicks ass! Really nice value range with a single pencil, but they cant be erazed!

Good start, your painting is quite developed, impressive.
I know it's hard, but keep at the drawing practice, it will help the rest of your art.
Keep up the anatomy study, it's one of the hardest things to master but one of the most necessary for any type of illustration.

hey man, very nice work.I like your paintings a lot, looks like you're more confident with colors than with lines...exactly the opposite of me :)
The latest sketches show improvement and dedication, and that is good.I had a very hard time understanding how to draw batman's head for some reason, i ended up realizing its really hard to make it look right by usign just lines...Good to see you've been drawing bigger too, and the quality of rendering and lines ins improving quickly ;)

Hey! Really great works in here! Some times it seems to be som rushes in your drawings which can look a litte bit messy, but i dont think that is a problem here. You are a good sketcher and your digital is strong, especially your palette. I love the forest picture!
Bra jobbat!!

Cool new design. I have to say I had trouble reading the forms strongly, specifically the arm.
The back arm feels strange to me. It looks like his left shoulder would be back further since it appears that his back is facing us. Sure he could position his shoulders similar to this but it doesnt look natural :) Maybe suck in that elbow more to his body. More color!

Woh dude nice updates!
Very neat stuff happening in this one
http://conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1501331&postcount=102
Such a neat mix of texture and shape. The bg could be a little more crisp perhaps but I love that one so far. I dont know if I'm keep on the different boot sizes for some reason...and the large piece of equipment on the back I find distracting from the nice things happening with his shoulders etc...
I think there is a gap between referenced faces and the ones out of your head, so keep workin with those references and the gap will start to close in no time! Though maybe its just a more anime influenced style that is causing it? Nice comparison of the old and new also, that must be nice for you to look at. Farewell friend

SOme lovely work you got here. I especially like your use of color. It gives a really great dark and morbid mood. Im also a big fan of that picture where the guy is kneeling in front of some rails and his arms are being electrified or something. LIke the perspective and mood. Keep it coming mate.

Mr Armetage it has been a little while...the last 3 images, fantastic! Definately your style and interesting lighting. Out of the 2 on this page I think the composition of the upper one is stronger, the other leans to the left - perhaps that tall building in the left BG would fit better on the other side?
Anyways great style, glad to see your still going with it ;)

No references used for any images here (you can probably tell)
Okey so the first new image uploaded is kinda a failure dont you think? i mean i went to fast with the whites when creating it and the perspective got messed up didint it? Please cut me in half with critiques about this one atleast :D
2nd one is also a speedpainting done in about 1-2 hours i dont remember actually. I was experimenting with things, crits?
3rd: started out as a experiment with 4pts perspective (which is new for me) but i think i fail somewhere at the middle of it :)
4th: An happy accident which i refined and got pretty pleased with, yet again the perspective isnt perfect.
conclusion. I need to put out those perspective lines in the future.
Could anyone help me out with 4 & 5 pts perspective, i got a teori about it but im not really sure how it works.

post 121 and 122 are absolutely INCREDIBLE. Do more of that!! Seriously I came in here expecting mediocre stuff and that just B-L-E-W me away.
The way I see it you're just a little practice away from being 5 stars. Take some time to study perspective...yes perspective...once you are good with taht nothing will stop you.
PLEASE PRACTICE PERSPECTIVE. IT'S EASY TO LEARN
IT WILL BENEFIT YOU GREATLY

ped454: thanks alot!
Im practicing both perspective and anatomy as much as I can at the moment, and it really pays off. I´ve finally realized that when I study I should always think about how the things ive just learned can be applied when doing my own stuff. So everytime do a studie i think off what this informations really means and what use I have of it. Knowlage is good, but you need to know how to apply it and use it effectivly

Gorgeous stuff man. The forth and fifth perspective point doesn't need to be used unless you are changing planes (like a highway changing direction) or if there is an object in a scene that is tilted in a different angle then the rest of the objects in the scene( like a room lined up in 2 point and a book in the scene has it's own vanishing point because it does not run parallel to the floors and ceiling) As long as it shares the same horizon it will work. Sometimes there can be a picture frame on the wall in an interior shot, lets say the picture has a house in it. This picture can have it's own perspective points in the scene also. I hope this makes sense and helps a little. Kind of hard to describe in typed words.

Lots of hard work, great!
With the last one, the closest figures forms in the shoulders etc. dont read quite clearly to me. maybe the right shoulder needs to be lower from this perspective...the shadow next to him also struck me as wrong, but good quick one - you've dropped in some window photos to speed up the process?
What process did you end up using for the mountains you've mentioend in this one?
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=287215&d=1201031895
I think in that one you could improve your values a bit, though they aren't bad!! - the people should be darker and more apparent to me, the mountains could be blocking some light and casting a shadow over your monster, which would attract more attention to him. If you want to show more of a confrontation between the characters, you could crop off most of the top and work it a bit more?
The second in post #146 looks like it might be worth putting more time into?
armetage
January 28th, 2008, 03:28 PM
Thanks jakers, lots of good critiques.
The shadow next to him is the mans shadow infron, the man with the suitcase, since its a pretty long shadow, and the big shadow on the left wall is the man with the guns, i know that its not really realistic atm but i was thinking of adding a lightsource behind the character since i want a menecing castshadow on that wall, but its a speedi so i dont think i will put the effort into it

Your imagination its huuuge. The one marked work in progress feels needlessly noise in spots as your eye goes right to it....perhaps save this use of texture for areas that you want us to look...definately shouln't be just here and there :) The broken bridge immediately struck my as strange because it doesnt look like it could hold itself up as it is...either a lot more damage and missing sections or pillars would help.
The last character is has attitude for such a simple stance. His hips seem quite narrow, but use your judgement with what your trying for. There seems to be a lot of grey, specially on his body...let that warmer light effect everything and push the mood!
