Cos - My new work is here now man, got some stuff still coming that you'll probably like more than this though. At the mo my work tends to shift all over the place... line drawings to messy sketches, tight renderings etc.

Whatsup Lukias, it's Joe P. Decided to post on another forum eh? I hear you. New stuff looks great man. And I just noticed something about a lot of these I hadn't seen before: some of their legs look a little short bro.

Kress aka Joe P- Hey thanks man, yeah I agree about the legs. I still struggle with women.. I find them hard to draw aswell..(not funny). I really only started drawing them at the start of last year, so I still have much to learn. No ref for the backs really. I had sketched the piece already and then checked a couple of girlie pics to see my flaws, but things were ok it seemed. I think I fluked the backs really!

bansq- Yep will do, I thought it was pretty mild, but yeah, next time I'll give warning.

Lono - Hey man, long time no see... err talk. Thanks for the props(been really digging your work)!
I'm off to Germany in two months(leaving work in two weeks though). Gonna do some solo backpacking/traveling. My forums days will pretty much be over come then, which will be a bummer. I've been cruisen these forums since the conception of Sijun.

Kick arse work ya bashtid! been looking out for this stuff, you didn't dissapoint as usual. Great blend of looseness and rendering, lighting on the second from last pic of the first post (thas right, my brother's sisters cousin ya heard me) smashes it, looks quite mastery. That last page is a killer too, love that head. You so make me wanna go back and render everything it's sick, love it man.

I have some more for you people. Some of my favs.

These first three were done in the one sitting, in order of apperance. I got lazy with the Doom Guard pic and decided to go for something a bit different. Lots of quick strokes, finger smudging and rubing out. Then changed colours and added few extra highlights, some smudging etc, in Adobe photo Deluxe.
Got tight with the girl pic... I don't intend to change styles so much, it just happens.

The Orc guy is a few weeks old and the Mutant is from Nov. The Head is taken from one the multi pages. I liked so gave it a bit of a working.

Having your work posted is a tremendous insperation to me since my developemental focus has been mainly exercizing my eye- which means alot of fussy pencil work. Having someone sketch in this fasion and at this level provides me with a great role model and sets the bar at at an incredible pace. I hope you don't mind but I color printed out a few of your sketches and I keep them on my board for insperation while I'm scratching the hours away at my easil. Beautiful work, I'm speachless. Even your concepts are increadibly powerful both from a character and emotional angle. The use of someones hands for armor carries with it so much depth and originality. If you have not already mentioned this already can you tell me your genneral materials and prosess. How do you use your referances, how old are you where did you study. Wew, any way I would love to show you some of my own sketches in the near future and I would be honored if you critiqued them, even briefly. Thank you so much, I am anxious to see more

iwasink- thanks man. Naa I kinda wish I had some background/traditional teaching. I just left school and became an IT git. Though these boards are the best teachers imo.

Materials: .. I just went to the art store looked for a nice A4 pad.. something with a reasonably fine grain. I'm not fussed on pencils either, I just go by grade not brand, I as of yet haven't consciously noticed any difference in brand quality.

I don't use references.. really.. Well sometimes I may look at my own arm or hand(then rotate it in my mind etc). If I use one it'll be to check that what I have is so so. Like I'll draw the pic.. eg that girl with her bum facing us.. then I went into a mag and found a naked bum and just checked for general mistakes, never really adjusting the pic much.
I'm 23

I never studied, or went to art school. I started to get into drawing really around the start of last year. I've always been a sketcher but it tended to be something I did at school or when there was nothing better to do. I think my motivation comes 95% from all the amazing talent on these boards. I really feel I've improved more in the last year than in the last 6 years or more.
I still lack so much and really need to work on my anatomy alot(as well as every other area)

I'd be more than happy to check/crit your work!.

It was alot of fun doing these, I again experimented with different styles... though thats kinda happens as it happens, more than being a pre-thought out thing.

Naa hardly, I mean..
Prior to visting Dhabs site 3 years back I (I imagine probably like alot of people out there) was just sketching here and there, but not taking it seriously or driving towards any specific goal.
I always thought I was a good artist.. . I didn't personally know anyone better... I had a massive shock when I checked out sijun's, it more then bought home how novice I was.
So I continued to sketch stuff... monsters and muscle men as always. I was decent with shading but my form and anatomy etc stuff was crap.
Start of last year I decided to start drawing women and faces more.. stuff I wasn't used to. Doodling at work helped heaps I think. About 8 months back I actually started putting time aside a few nights a week to sketch for a few hours.. instead of watching shit TV. I drew from some references, did some life drawing... generally started getting into things more. Buts its come about with renewed passion all cos of the inspiration.. more so motivation from these boards and the insane talent.
How cool is it to hang in places where the big boys trawl. I walk into places and then see art work on boxes from guys who posted work asking for critique only weeks before. Its weird and very cool. I owe internet art communities alot re my art. That sounds cheesy.

Very gritty lines and like the way you doing the anatomy, not over bodybuilderfying it, abit more mastery, what you been doing anatomy studies from?

Yellow burned paper probably adds to that masteryness too I think, kinda Da Vinci. You giving it that look with colour adjustment or is it the paper?

haha yeah the paper is standard stuff, I just use these 3 colour slider bars in Abobe photo Deluxe to change the colour. Yellows/browns are nicest I reckon.
