my sketches are usually pretty utilitarian and i end up throwing them out. but since i have been on this forum i have been reminded to put more effort and care into this part of the process. i love sketches! i have just been in too much of a hurry to get to the painting.

thank you friend.
those definitely look nice. I'm a bit puzzled regarding mine.
I've done some portraits lately and the subjects said "it's me but 10years older"
It must be noisy then.. too many lines. So i was thinking to go as clean as posible - but looking at others.. damn.. it feels like i'm missing something.
Practice will solve it anyway - right? ;)

hey oblio!
post the sketches that you are talking about here on this thread. let's see what?s going on! i think you are learning by leaps and bounds. you have such hunger i do not dare stand in your way. with all that sometimes you must remind yourself that sometimes it is just perspective, i mean the kind that comes with maturity. exposure to life, art and ideas. look for it don't rush it.
thanks for the quote line. i have never been quoted before. now i realize i better think before i write. i am still chuckling over it.

This is great to see Jon, thanks so much for putting it up here and not in the trash!!! Seeing these sketches is very interesting and gives more insight into how much of a painter you really are. You can see a definite evolution from these sketches to your final pieces. Love the kids faces at the bottom of the page!
Couple questions...These were development sketches for Earthbound? Is that right? What kind of reference did you use, or are they drawn from memory, impressions?

hey smeagol,
these are a kind of amalgam of reference taken of my wife and myself. i also did some drawing from a book that had photos of kids. turned around while they were fresh in my mind and tried to draw me as a kid. i needed certain angles on the heads so that part i had to make up as i went. the torsos were me in various cloths. i tried to change the proportions to fit the ages i was after. some of the faces worked some just bombed, but all in all it was allot of fun to work a bit more on the sketch phase.

very cool, I like how the female with the bold outline kinda brings all the sketchs together.

For better or worse here are some of my sketch book pages. Some are the process of working out ideas for content and composition within a brief. others are just having fun.

awesome, great flow. A lot of times I actually like looking at sketches rather than finished work.

Ugh.. sorry Jon, i'm so overwhelmed with work i barely keep breathing (i get to sleep about 4 hours/night lately).
Anyway.. as you said it - "look for it don't rush it" -i try to figure it out by myself. My sketches are so messy i feel ashamed. I look at Justin's or cos's or... so many others here.. and i just want to change my right hand for a plotter. (terminator like)
Look at John Blood

That is how i want my sketches to look like. :(
One day... that way or my way! :bash:

p.s. - as soon as i'll get some time i'll scan something and post here. I wouldn't miss ANY feedback form you ;) Thx. again.
