Painting inspired by Wood...

Indeed. This upload is truly in the right forum category. I have worked on this at school for a very long time. The assignement was to choose an artist to be strongly influenced of, n I chose Ash Wood as ya can see. Btw, it is acryllic on a wooden board.

haha, when i first read the title of this post I was like "oh this should be interesting"!! Very cool image.. It actually has a rockwell fell for me as well.. dont know why exactly I get that impression but, I do... I think its because of the foot area.. Nice work

Lovely handling of the acrylics, I thought they where oils. Sweet piece as well, only thing that bothers me is the face: in this huge commotion, the expression isn't selling it for me. Your credibility in the exaggerations of the proportions could be tweaked just a bit to make it convincing, by touching up the hand and sloaching the neck and head a bit. Sweet work my friend, keep at it.

That is truly amazing mate, especially for acrylics. The castshadows and your control of colour with such a (sometimes) unnerving medium are enviable. I don't like the man's clothing, it's too brownish and wrinkled for my liking, but I guess that's part of the style you were going for.

Benedikt - Thank you deeply mate! Heheh, damn thats very nice ofya. Acrylics can sure be a bitch, it dried alot faster then I was expecting. I partly agree with you. I do like the colors, kinda continuing the "alot of brown, a little red, just a tad of blue-colortheme" too. Though the texture and wrinkles could be alot better. more flat and harder areas would look better. Thanks for the time taken!:)

overall it's a nice piece, but be aware of the tangencies(sp?) between the robot and the man. You should seperate the robot's knee from the man's... at first look i thought it was the robots leg with the shoe on the bottom of the piece.

if this is intentional, cool, if not be careful of that in the future.

if you have a good look at a majority of Wood's work, you will see that a large portion of his drawings are sketchy, unfinished in a sense, and exaggerated. most of his figures have very elongated features, and disproportionate limbs and body parts in the more cartoonesque pieces. heck, there is a large portion of work in which his pinups all exhibit 3-inch nipples!

its really of no consequence that he draws this way when you see his more meticulously rendered images, where it becomes evident that hes quite well versed with the human form in all its faucets. Wood's work pursues dynamic poses, compositions, and are most often centered around capturing a moment of action. Orifice has thus captured the moment - a snapshot of a very interesting and energetic situation. therefore i dont feel that anatomy is particularly paramount in this piece.

that being said.. everyone should do more than a little life drawing. no excuse to be content with consistently abnormal anatomy, unless of course your penchant is small animals or robots or little gremlins or something that isnt necessarily grounded in the world of reality.

/end rant
