Ok... I'm relatively new to art, definitely new to concept art, and extremely new to weapon art. I was inspired to try some stuff after looking thru Koro's thread, and I did take acouple elements from there. It's a PDW concept, not much to say... I just wanted to get started on concept mechanical art. Probably try some more weapons or machines next. Eventually I'll needa make some good robotic concepts for my comic, which is sorta the purpose of it all.

I like this. I'm not much of a weapon's expert, but this one looks pretty cool

:)

that is not bad. i see some familiar shapes in there :)

some issues i see:

where is the magazine? the caseless ammo you mention needs next to no space but it still needs a little bit.

then, why did you do that g.36 style handle on top of it? it is a pdw, a personal defense weapon. you probably won't carry it with you openly and it also should not be so large that you need a handle to prevent the strain from the imbalance of the normal way you hold the gun.

i am not sure about the use of those two parts below the grip handle. do they serve something specific?

also, since you want to fire caseles ammo, you should add some things that lead the heat out of the gun.
a fully enclosed gun firing caseless ammo will reach a point very quickly when the ammo is prone to self-ignition due to te heat building up. they did not really solve that issue since the development of the hk g11 which is quite a bit of time ago, so i guess that problem will stick around for a bit longer.

other than that, for the first one, this is really neat :)

Thanks for the comments.. while doing it, I definitely realized I didn't thinkout the functionality enough beforehand. Definitely liked reading your comments. The whole thing is kinda messed up. I was thinking HK PDW in terms of overall size and somewhat style... then I tried to mash in some G11 elements.. the handle thing on top was gonna be the place for ammo (ala g11) but in the end I was kinda undecided if thats what it actually was. So, in the end, I definitely learned that it's important to know how you want things to work BEFORE you start drawing. Might try acouple more guns next to get a better grasp on concepts... maybe a CAW or just some unique futuristic thing.

if i were you, i'd try a few more times on this idea.
a small automatic weapon with caseless ammo sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

things to think about would be:
where to store tha magazine?
g11-like is not bad but given the short barrell of your weapon, you might not get very much space there.
what about a fn p90 style mag? or something more traditional - mp5 style or ingram/uzi style.
you could also use the mag as the front handle.
also, the infamous "shirow style" might be worth a few thoughts.
try to get magazine and loading mechanism as far back in the weapon as possible, so you can have a longer barrell => more accuracy.

heat exhausts for the mentioned reasons of caseless ammo.

also, looking at other weapons than heckler & koch might give you a few ideas about design philosophies.
hk, walther, mauser, fn, giat, colt, ruger, cz, the ak series of weapons...

and don't put things on the gun you don't need. :)
guns are tools, pure functionality is dictum.

i'm looking forward to seeing more of your designs :)
