Hi there. Ive been programming for about .. 3 years now, as well as participating in art related hobby work. I only do sketching thus far, as coloring is a subject I know very little about. Sketching , however, I have been doing all my life.

Just thought I would say hi :). Also, can you guys recommend a semi cheap but semi decent quality scanner, digital pad (art pad, IE: wacom), and perhaps some good tutorial/reference web sites? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for any help, and once again, hello :).

[Edit] Also, any recommendations for paper, eraser, pencil, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Wrong forum buddy, but good to hear another programmer amongst the ranks :)

As for a decent scanner... mine is working rather well, and was cheap ($150) - it's a Microtek 4900. Wacom tablets are popular, but if you want to start cheap, look into comparable brands such as Aiptek. I'd start off with a book by Betty Edwards: Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain. She gives you an idea of what to look for when drawing. The best reference is life itself, so draw like there's no tommorow.
