Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to CA but all of the amazing work compelled me to show some of my own. I'm a freshman at Iowa State University where I am pursuing a Fine Arts degree with my focus on 3d modeling and animation. I currently have a part-time job working as the Texture Artist at the Virtual Reality Applications Center located on my campus. I work with about 6 other artists on the Meta!Blast project, which is an educational biology game. The VR machine itself, the C6, is insanely powerful and one of only two in the world. It is truly exciting to have such an opportunity to get practical experience. Now, as a freshman, my work isn't as good as some on CA, but with patience, practice, and dedication I hope to develop some strong skills. I hope that I can also learn a lot from this community. So, enough about me, lets get to the purpose of this sketchbook thread. If anyone has any comments, please post, and they will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :^^:

Some really good looking peices here. Great depth shown in the second. And i love this last one. A colourful flower in black and white, i think is great. Good stuff, i look forward to seeing more :)

Newbie: Thanks for the kind words man!

Here are some rough sketches I forgot to post. This is more inline with my typical subject matter. I don't really enjoy doing still-life much, but it is helpful for the good ol' observational skills:0 anyway, what I have here are the prelims for a colored pencil drawing based on the battle between Theseus and the Minotaur. Hopefully I can start work on the final in the near future. Enjoy:)

Those are very wonderful enviornments. You really put alot of effort into them and it shows. The design for the minataur is pretty cool.

Thanks MrHobo. I don't like doing environments much, but they didn't turn out too terrible.

Hey everyone! Sorry it's taken me so long to post again, but I've been terribly busy with school and work. Here are two WIPs I'm considering for my Minotaur project. Background still has yet to be added. Thanks again to Ostrander for giving me some guidance.

Hey there Will, I was looking through your thread so far. I'm really digging your perspective pieces. You have some really nice attention to detail there. As for a crit on your Minotaur/Theseus, I think that the second Theseus in your last post could use some more work. When set against the Minotaur he isn't quite as appealing. I would say, pay attention to you line quality. That is something I have been working on recently, it really strengthens a drawing when your lines are solid, and less "sketchy". I can see evidence in your earlier posts that you have the ability to do this. To strengthen Theseus, I think you should pay particular attention to his head and sword. I also enjoy your use of such a classic story to fuel your work. Keep up the good work! -- can't wait to see the ground come in!

Cryptorchild: Thanks for the input and general interest man! See, I'm not sure which version I will use, and I'm going to start painting in digitally in Painter X when it arrives. If it were going to be line though, I totally agree about the line weights. Thanks again. :yayca:

Also, just for kicks, here are two old favs that I want to eventually paint.

Wow, it has been an extremely long time since I last updated...where has all that time gone. Sadly, I haven't had much time to work on the minotaur drawing, but I do have a background mostly complete. I am thinking, however, on reorienting the canvas to a horizontal view, and focusing on the two characters. I also have some sketches to post in the relatively near future, so something to look forward to.

Nice work here Will, don't clutter up that bottom left side and keep the attention on the fight.
