Welcome to the boards!
Glad you've started a book. They're a great way to build a good collection of art, and improve while doing it. Have a look around as see that the artist who are doing great work now didn't always start out that way, but they just worked at it and eventually came up with the goods.
Keep going with the life studies and referencing as well, and then when you've got the basics down, you can go crazy. :blah:

Check this place out, this guy is great for working on ur fundamental drawing skills. I use every technique he talks about. Its an excellent place to learn the basics of pen control.
Consistency is key, just draw everyday, if only for 10 min. you'll get results.

The last one looks good. but i recommend that you do some anatomy studyes to better understand the shapes of the body,
some lines looks like they are without purpose and/or overdone.

Hey Raistlin, thanks for visiting my sb. I think something that might help you is setup some still lifes, and bring some lights around your objects, and practice doing some of them. Help you with understanding form, give you practice in shading, and the main thing it will help is drawing from life and direct observation. Also I think a few already suggested, but pratice doing some anatomy/figure studies. I'll be watching you progress. :) Happy drawing.

June 2nd, 2007, 04:53 PM
First off, thanks for commenting on my sketchbook.
Second, seems like you might like working with ink. Try pen, it might fit your style. But try drawing something in pencil first and posting it in the critique center before inking.
Third, to get your avatar-thing for your thread, you have to use the file attachment manager to post it on your first post. If you go back to my sketchbook, you'll see that's what I did.
Forth, don't get a new sketchbook. I think it's cool to see evolution of drawing through a lot of time, and it's good to do that all in one post.
Keep working--

When I started copying anatomy studies from anatomy books, I found that it helped me a lot very quickly. Don't be afraid of drawing the same muscle study over and over again, it helped me to remember the muscle placements better. :)
I'd love to see your sb evolve, I hope your scanner can be brought back to life soon. *pats it*

Hi man!
One thing to think about when you draw woman is to draw them with class, I wouldnt draw them slutty and sleasy thats not atractive. If you draw them with som thought of the pose. maybe a less "slave" looking pose. Dont get me wrong I love naked woman but not in a distasteful way. Anatomy is about shapes and if you find the standard shapes of a human body it gets a lot more relaxed to draw humans. Ill be back and I hope to se some less creapy pics of woman. keep it up. Cheers!:)

Keep it updated. :)

Hey, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. I think you have a good start here but i think figure drawing, or just drawing people could help u improve in your character drawing skills. Pay attention to your proportions too. The one of the girl with the big tits sitting on her knees, her legs seem way short. I think figure drawing, then later on once your pretty comfortable with that, then anatomy should come, but yeah it seems like you really like to draw characters and drawing figures or just finding people standing still and taking a little time out of every day to do something like that could really help out in the long run. anyway, keep it up, u got a good start.

Nice start, hope you get your scanner workin' soon... So you're 14? I guess by the time you turn 20, you'll own us all. I think the most important thing for you right now is to keep drawing and have some fun. Don't be too critical, just keep scratching marks on flattened wood. If you feel the desire to get more into it and progress, I'd recommend you study perspective, which is propably the most important thing to study for an artist starting out. Some people think perspective is for drawing architecture only, but that's not true. Perspective is a canon of rules how to represent 3D forms on a two dimensional surface. Since we draw 3D forms almost all the time (unless we design patterns for carpets or whatnot), it basically applies to everything. Once you learn to draw a cube correctly in perspective, you have already come a long way...
Keep in mind I'm not a good artist, so take everything with a grain of salt. :)

Dude.. thanks for pooping by. Good work here for your age. Shame you can't post more updates.. Definatley try to get into PS. If you can afford it get a graphics tablet ( intuos 3 if you are loaded). As for learning just look here at the Photoshop subject and check out Bumskee's work. If you want to see someone progress all the way through to pro standard that's the one to look at!
Oh... Loomis is the god of learning how to illustrate just about anything..Check out Andrew Loomis on the web.. I think I posted links to PDF versions of his books in my thread somewhere.

Anyways about the pic, i need to take PS classes cause i don't really understand much. I just can't do what i want with it. Also,i think i'll post soon, maybe go to my friends house. Dammit i just can't get that scanner!

you guys the moment of truth has come! I don't have a scanner yet but i got like 40 pics! Anyways they will be out of order and some of the will be smudgged and crumpled...I'm sorry for the bad quality but i have fucked up my life, and drinking doesn't help i guess. So this will be the drawing of an AK47( ignore the crap that's written on there, it was for a project). I kinda stressing over my first year in high school which started today, so i'll probably won't have much time to draw. I don't know. Hopefully, also, i'll be done with PE and be able to take an art class next school year!

ok the wtf comic things have gone that far, and i messed up anyways with the whole grid on the actual comic strip(it was a gay idea anyway). Also the "maidens"(i know sounds cheesy) are screwed up, believe me i had a much bigger, cooler idea in my head, i just couldn't put it down on paper(the heads are way to big too, gotta work on my anatomy first i guess). Damn this is so frustrating! But as you can see i improved( at least i think so). oh ya and i figured out how to download my first sucky expirement on photoshop...plz critic so i can get better! oh ya and sorry for the fucked up scans but you guys get the main picture!

anatomy my friend! Get yourself a loomis anatomy book and buckle down on some studies. Don't go straight at anime, if thats the style you want thats cool but in order to make a believable style you must first know everything about real human anatomy! In order to make it appealing to the eye you gotta learn all the basics. That way you'll know how to exaggerate things and whatnot to make an interesting approach to the body. But I cannot stress that enough, study study study, do portraits, and work from life to get down lighting.
goodluck man, keep up the good work!

Just get ref from the internet and Draw draw draw..It's all just lines at the end of the day.. the more you do the more they make sense and you can manipulate them to do what you want.. You should keep this book. A new sketch Book would show a lack of confidence in your old work IMO. Nothing wrong with changing style and subject in a sketchbook.. That's what it's all about. I personally love seeing the progression people make through their sklechbooks. Just look at Bumskee's book on here to see what is truly possible with hard work.

September 16th, 2007, 10:19 PM
proportions seem to be skewed in your character pieces, maybe studying muscles and bones might be a good way to get the basics of anatomy down first, to get a better idea of the general structure before putting skin over it, and don't study the outlines when you do studies, pay the most attention to the shapes and how light falls on different shapes.
keep posting artz, every drawing you do is a step forward :)

Thanks for commenting in my sketchbook dude. You've go tons of ideas but you're beening held back by your inability to put the down on the paper accurately. You need to start doing a lot more drawings from life/photo reference in addition to your concepts. I know life drawing isn't as fun but it needs to be done, and when you go back to drawing your own creations it will help strengthen you art immensely! So go out and sketch!

Need to c drawings...draw draw draw. Get yourself a Loomis or Hogarth book and do some reference work. Using comics as a starting point isn't ideal because each artist has there own style which they have pulled from life. You need to go to the source and see how the body works. Get on it and stay on it, that's how you will get better.

Your pencil strokes give your drawings a lot of motion and energy, but when applied almost equally to all of the drawing it makes it look a bit hairy. Try out single confident lines for fun it will also will help keep the drawing cleaner. I like the gothic vibe from these drawings.

One thing is for sure and that's that you have a great taste in music :)
When it comes to your art I would say that it is looking good for someone your age. If you keep at it, by the time you're twenty you'll be an awsome artist! One advice from me would be to try out studing human anatomy. It is really something that will pay off. Keep posting!

say dude, thanks for commenting on my thread.
seems like you've already been told a hundred times what i was going to say:
work on your anatomy. haha
sooo, instead of spending money, check this out:
http://www.fineart.sk/
go there, look for the link to "Andrew Loomis Anatomy Books"
they're all right there online for you for free.
study em. and by "study em" i mean, look at his drawings and re-draw them yourself. it doesn't matter that it isn't an original drawing. its a learning process, just say that they are Loomis studies.
oh, and the biggest bit of advice i can give you is this: draw EVERY DAY. im serious. if you draw EVERY DAY, you cant help but get better.
oh, and one last thing: have fun.
:D

I couldn't agree with complete2 more. Loomis is a fab place to start when you're trying to get to grips with figures, his stuff is pretty comprehensive of the basics, and I still refer back to his mannakins and basic anatomy drawings when I feel like I've hit a rut myself. With regards to the pencil line work from PigeonKill, it might be an idea to try working in ink... just a biro or somesuch, and practice making just one or two lines to describe form, without being able to erase, or scratch in your lines, you should find you think more about what you're drawing.
But keep at it, and you'll begin to see a big improvement, and never be afraid to use reference if you need to. And thanks for dropping by my thread. You get bonus points for having one of the coolest characters in fantasy in your name too... ehehe.

hey man, thanks for the comment in my sb earlier. :)
I see a great deal of talent in here and I'm glad you're so dedicated at an early age! my advice for you would be to do lots of studies and draw from life a lot right away, the sooner you start with that, the more it'll stuck.
lines will come easier the more you draw, however, when you render try not to move the pencil in wavy way, so to speak. Always try to draw straight lines for more soft shadows. hum.. like this - |||||||||| and not like this - VVVVV, hope you see my point. ^^
It'll take longer, but will be rewarding. :)
well, cheers for now, keep the updates coming!

Hey man, cheers for visiting. Try googling for hair tutorials, theres a ton of em so depends which one you catch onto first really. I wouldent start a new sketch book, even though I am guilty of doing that try and stick with this one so people can actually see how far you have come by the 50th page in ya know? As for changing the icon, just replace the first image in the first post. ;) Keep at it, only advice i can give u is practice, draw from references for now and think about everything you draw.
EDIT: oops, just realized I missed the last 3 pages, was replying to the first page. sorry! :O

You seem to not be able seperate cartoon from reality,i noticed that when you did your portraits, you use unrealistic shadowing.the skin is very gradiated,it goes from having a soft glow,to having harsh, dropped shadows.that and your proportions are off.But other than that...not bad, ecspecially for being 14/15 years old.Im only 16,and i cant pretend that im the greatest thing, but you should pick up Burne Hogarthe's anatomy books...ecspecially dynamic figure drawing..and facial features.they are great books and they have helped me tremendously.

Okay...I haven't really posted here for like 2 years, since I became painfully aware that i sucked. But I'm gonna start posting again (although I'm still not satisfied), since I already have a scanner that's been lying around, and I also need a motivational edge to keep drawing everyday. Also people CRITIQUE the shit out of me, and tell me what I should work on, and do (ex. references I should do, studies, things like programs or techniques I should learn if I wanna make art my career...shit like that)
Thanks
Oh and should I delete all the previous shit?
