thanks sve, yeah, I know PS pretty good, hoever I do think there is a way to apply certain filters to a huge amount of layers simultaniously without flattening etc. Never mind though, Im nacked for today, time for something to eat and maybe a nightly movie or sumetin, keep the good work flowing.

In what was the old challenge arena is the submissions thread (see also the link in JL's post about 13 posts ago). When you get to this place, you are golden. It has Attachment Manager and everything!!!

JL.Alfaro
February 10th, 2007, 05:35 PM
Post it at the submission thread (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1209008#post1209008), but make sure its from a link-so we can grab it from there.

Mine is up, wasnt too happy with the final but its up now. Good luck Vorbiss!!

Ikuru- right above the top layer you want to change, add an adjustment layer set to levels, that outta do it. If not then just copy the layers you want to modify, then merge the copies together and apply the changes to that layer.

I know PS pretty good, hoever I do think there is a way to apply certain filters to a huge amount of layers simultaniously without flattening etc.

Well filters themselves can't be applied to many layers simultaneously without flattening, but there's the "create adjustment layer" button next to the "create new layer" button, in (of course) the Layers window (you know, those little icons at the bottom), which affect the whole image unless you assign them to specific layers. This may be what you're talking about.

Hope it helps.

This may be what you're talking about.

Hope it helps.another technique to apply a filter or adjustment to a series of layers is to use the "Copy Merged" option (PS CS2). this does not flatten the file, but creates in the Clipboard an image that merges all visible layers. Paste this into a new layer on top of everything else and apply your filter/adjustment. you can then mask this layer if you need to uncover anything from the layers underneath, as if the adjustment/filter was selective by area.

I find Copy Merged incredibly useful.

I'm going to have to bow to my (rather silent) opponent Sone One, and all the competitors in this competition. Unfortunately had other things that had to take priority over finishing up this competition, so I'm going to be the hated "No Replacement Puss Out". The smell of competition definitely pushed me to do some fun stuff with this piece, but it's not even remotely presentable at this point. I'm sure I'll finish it up for the portfolio in the coming weeks and it'll find it's way to the finally finished.

Great entries so far, everyone.

Thanks guys, but I really feel like I cheaped out on this one... I had to poop that out today due to a combo procrastination and design work. Eriboss, thanks for the ownination, the portrait of Mot is absolutely badass!

Trevor, goddamn gorgeous triptych. The battle scene is so beautifully saturated it left a little unpleasant saturation in my boxer shorts.

Troy, I don't think I've seen more pleasant shading on breasts before. The pose is great, the scene is mayhem... love it dude.

Bumskee, holy fuck! That's just about what I said when I saw it, inspiring shit man.

Jake, your piece came along great man. I loved that kid's melon so much I decided to draw a big-meloned child of my own.

GreenTopaz, you're awesome. Djohnston, understated and kickass composition. One of my faves.

Rick, voodoo hoodoo what you don't dare do, Morrigan is awesome... bitchin' pose and I love the crows coming out of her hair.

Sve, you had me at skull flowers. I feel like I've been upstaged with you drawing a cuter kid and all. Love the expression, did you use your kid as the reference?

Great dome!

Just got a partial posted over in the submission. I'm putting color and background on it now but didn't want to miss the deadline so I figured a partially finished(and badly photographed) place holder was better than missing submitting all together because I got into painting and lost track of time. I know mine isn't quite up to par for this competition but already it's pushed me further than I've ever gone. Okay off for a marathon painting session!

Status: Mine will be a rough colored vector-only by morning and posted unfinished. I have to leave for a court hearing at 9:00 am. If that's too late, so be it. Masque, as far as I'm concerned, we're still on against each other, whether I'm officially in the judging or not. We'll just do it as a separate comp in the challenge section. I'll only need 2 days or so to finish the detail work and painting in PS.

The day you grow a brain capable of executing an illustration in AI with between 40 and 120 layers, then transfer them in perfect registration individually to PS so they can be modified individually and have it come out right is the day this semi-retarded primate facsimile quits drawing for good.

How about you gimme a month or so to get some personal stuff out of the way, then we stage a one-on-one so I can kick your ass in public.

About 1 in 3 starters didn't post for whichever reason. The grab bag of people who are currently without match up contains some intimidating entries. The anxiety goes on for those people (they are about 1 in 6, since 1 in 6 of the nonfinishers were from the "known puss out" category). Will JL reassign matchups?

here's a full list that i thoroughly enjoyed:

rustikof - great kinetic energy and expressions in this one. glad to know ya and yer skills, fellow PNWer.

briareos - she's peaceful and hawt with armageddon comin' down. way to bring it.

mr. grumble - only you would find gods of facial hair and pit them against one another. for that, you rawk. nice execution as well.

bloodstone - great pose, nice inclusion of symbology, i dig the colors and the cloud swirl rules. nicely played.

cody - my graphic designer frand of the city windy, i really dig this piece. nufff said.

voodoochile - nice painterly approach, muted colors and poses. sweet.

min - this is hauntingly awesome. great drama, colors, movement and gesture. one of my absolute favs.

eri - just for the mere fact that you bring such a refreshin' look to concept art....i'd see these in a local gallery and smile. nice job mate.

mr. blonde - great mood and colors...serious drama goin' on here. bravo!

flimi - your pazuzu is just one twisted sister. sheesh! nice handle on rendering it up in the upper half.

wasker - your piece cracks me up, in a good way...the guys in the foreground are like yeah! i'm gonna kick thor's arse and then kaboom(!) toast. nice environment and lightning.

noen - it's a bit in the hypercolor range, but i honestly like this. your line work is very reminiscent of japanese drawings (as far as i can tell) and i like the layout. great job!

green - also one of my favs...you really know how to sell a story and your petals keep coming into your work (i love that!). great colors, design, gesture and expression. a real treat.

entdroid - you and your vector skills keep me in smiles. nice job on this one. i dig it.

trev - you keep raisin' the bar on yourself and it shows. there's a lot of good action and pose/drama in this entry. she's one pissed off bird. i dig it!

snarfevs - there's something about your work that i really like....you add all these delish elements that suggest a sincere appreciation for color and line. nice job.

sveta - this is just a lovely piece of art that i could see gracing a children's book on 'gods'....you really did some nice framing, good skull studies and a tempered color palette that harmonizes it all together. bravo!

evild - i really like this entry. you have successfully rendered: fabric/folds, and subtle tonal changes in the flesh due to lighting. but what gets me is the fabric....no doubt about it, your fabric is one of the coolest things in this entire tdome.

fedezz - seriously nice paint handling and expression in the foreground character is sweet.

jake - hahahaa.....scientology - well done! well done indeed.

all in all, a great series from everyone. sorry i couldn't play along.

all the best,
dave

My favorites are those showing the artist understood that kinetic attacks and energy attacks are mountable by mere mortals, and that the gods are apart from us because they count among their weapons time, space, and the fabric of reality.

Among that set, the ones who took the care to render out a thoughtful environment or environments for their god(s) were another step above.

Among those who had the above two things, the elite are the ones who actually and specifically showed a plurality of combatants (a God plus either another god, a titan or an army) in swift and dangerous collision, dispensing and or receiving profound jeopardy to their persons. The best among them will get any vote I have to give, as best living up to the topic. Thanks for showing me what you can do.

T-domes are always worth the wait once you see all the artwork lined up like this.

-Voodoochile: Nice composition. Also, I hardly ever seem to paint with warmer palletes like this these days but I find myself drawn to them, I think you've inspired me to do just that.

-Greentopaz: wow, that is sick. Tripple head slice! The colours are my favourite thing about this, Kali pops off the page.

-strych9ine: Thanks alot, I appreciate that. I actually thought you had one of the most appealing pieces too. The execution was great but the concept was even better, I think I would have had way more fun if I could have come up with an idea like that. (as a child it seems you had that evil, darkened, sunken-in eye look going)

It better not be the god you've nicknamed 'The lurker at the threshold'...

EDIT: Why is it that there are 44 match ups but I can only see 29?

arttorney
February 12th, 2007, 09:51 PM
29 sounds right to me. Out of about 90, about 15 were pre-puss outs and about 15 were post-puss outs. 15+15=30. 90-30=60. 60 divided by 2=30. (which is approximately 29). I'd say it's within the constraints of my crude model. (is there an extreme dork smiley on here?)

Be patient, grasshoppers...

You geniuses have entered pieces ranging from 7 (SEVEN?!?) to higher than 300 in resolution. These all have to be resolved by ME before they can be combined and uploaded for the judges. It's going to be a few hours yet, so cool it. One thing...when this is over, we're all going to sit down and have an ass-reaming session on this bullshit, as well as about half of you not designating your entries according to the rules. Every time you fuck something up that is clearly spelled out in the rules, you make someone else's life a lot more complicated, because they have to fix your pile of shit entry knowing you're going to complain and whine later about it being done...

JLA, stuff will be ready in a couple of hours. Alert the judges that they'll have the URL by this afternoon/evening.

Err....oops. Was mine the seven? My drawing was too big for the scanner and my good digital camera decided to go belly up when I tried to take my pic so out came the ancient camera to take the pic. I swear I practically had to wind up that old ass camera to make it work. But more resolution would not have made my drawing look any better unfortunately. lol
