Yummy! I love it! I love the way she glows. Very nice work. You've done a great job in staying very close to the reference. I do wonder, though - did you intentionally age her? I love the scarf, too. Great handling of that! I just love that eye - beautiful! Those shadows/colors are terrific! Good work on the texture of the sweater. If you had gotten it as "furry" as the real thing, it really would have distracted from the rest of the picture. But it still has some texture. Anyway, thanks for sharing! I really like looking at this painting. This must have been a fun reference to work from. I hope you show more of your work.

Okay, some observations, take them or leave them:
1) You used a lot more yellow than on your reference. It's very obvious in the face, in the shadow under the chin, on the neck. Everywhere, really.
2) Her eyebrow looks painted on. Personally, this does not bother me. I actually kind of like it, for whatever reason. But just so you know, it looks like she woke up and smeared on those eyebrows. I think it's because in your version the way you handled the highlight on that part of her forehead, where her eyebrow is, it makes it look like the eyebrow is shining instead of absorbing light.
3) The shadow at the base of the neck is the only area that I would think you should _really_ fix if you're going to work on this at all, ever again. It does not resemble the reference and it looks odd. Too harsh, too "blown out" looking, too contrasty. It also looks like that part of her is not real, like it's molded out of something.
4) You could bring her chin in a bit. It protrudes further than in the reference.
5) You gave her more of a "crooked nose" than in the reference - a bigger bump on top of the nose. Personally, I like it, though.

Thanks!

the one thing that stands out to me is it looks like a porcelain doll. Also the edges are very hard for it being a woman thats why she looks older then the referance. The upper section of the aqua colored portion of the head scarf looks flat to me.

I really like how you textured the scarf texture and the proportions are very close to the refence. Nice job all around.

pretty solid work. congrats.

i agree with spiral on his crits, especially the hard edges.
while doing the paintover, i noticed she looks slightly more indian/asian in the ref (more roundness in the features, which i didnt change).

the top of her head is too flat (changed that with the liquify filter in the op). and i introduced some slight temperature changes in her face. lightened and saturated the drop shadow and broadened the hightlights (dont be afraid of large brushes and strokes). and most important softened a lot of edges.

hope this been at least a bit helpfull and you can see what i mean. cheers.

thanks for the great advice everyone. making her older was not part of my plan but i did saturate her face a little more than the actual picture just to make it pop a little more.

spirals : you gave me a wealth of info to think about and im glad you dig the portrait.

sweet oblivion : i see your point on how it looks porcelain and softening the highlight helps a great deal and as for the head scarf, i guess i just need to continue the highlight around the aqua part cuz i notice it just stops at the gold color. great eye and thanks.

sone one : thanks for the paintover. i really see the difference in age and skin tone.

thanks alot everyone and ill def go back to this painting.
