.. well, I did a drawing of the Fates a few weeks ago but wasn't all that happy with them. So I drew them again.

Let me know what you think.

oggyyyyyyy! ;)

Looks good yet...

i think the reason why you aren't happy with is the composition...the focus is very strong on the right side...i don't know if this is your intention, but even if there are some inauspicious alignments...

The figures heights decrease from left to the right...this makes the pic unbalanced and boring to look at...

Same thing happens with the width, mass and volume of the figures (just the opposite way > increasing)...so the whole image really tilts to the right...

Also the space between the three is the same...> boring

The figures are placed honestly in the three parts of the canvas...left, middle, right...> boring :p

But you included some overlay (hands), which is good for the whole thing...this adds depth and generates more interest for the viewer...

First i thought the left person holds a sword...it was interesting because the sword (i saw) overlayed with the centered person...but as i looked now i can see the right hand of the woman making a fist, so she can't hold a sword...seems that "my sword" is just a random shape there...? But wait...isn't the man in the middle holding the sword-like shape on the top...so it is a sword, but hold by the centered man...whaaaaaa....please help me out....:)

However, i am looking forward to your color-job as always...

Do it, oggy! :chug:

Thanks Fozzy ;)

I'll start off by saying.. there is no sword (sounds like "there is no spoon" :D ). Just random shapes. Actually, what they are holding (and what is probably very hard to see because of all the lines and shapes flapping about here and there) is a string or thread. The Fates basically hold a thread. The thread symbolizes an individual human beings life. As they manipulate the thread, an individuals destiny is pulled and altered. If they break the thread, the person dies. I know the greeks had a version of this myth.. and I believe that they also appeared in the Ring of the Numbelungren (sp?).. but in the Ring I think they were more of the weavers. Weaving your life's destiny. The Fates are represented as a young woman, a middle aged woman and an old woman (in greek myth I think they are all young.. but I like the different stages in life better).

As far as your critique goes.. yes it is a bit boring ;) I did notice the height going from right to left and that did bother me. You have good points on mass and spacing too. I didn't really see that myself.. but now it is plain as day.

I doubt I will color this one because even as I write this (and as I read your crits) I am thinking of a new composition for them. I will probably make a few more studies of them. In all honesty, although I really like the subject matter, I am really just drawing them because I want to work out my drawings of women in this style (which, I still need need to do. Middle figure is suppossed to be a middle aged women and I don't see it either :D )

Thanks again.. for the good points you make and helping me think about it.

You are crazy with the black shapes. It's really an amazing style. Have you ever designed any tattoo flash?

I think that the 3 weird sisters from Macbeth were meant to represent the fates as well.

Thanks GN

I hadn't really thought of the tatoo style. Other than my own tatoo, I have never designed one.. and that was years ago. But the style would fit, I think.

You are right about MacBeth.. I've heard that before at least. I've drawn those witches a few times as well. I don't know what it is that interests me about those characters, but I really like them.

It may just be a coincidence (but probably isn't. Especially since Shakespear already had established the name) but the the female vampires in Dracula are called the weird sisters too.

Always liked them :D
