I'm 15 years old and I'm going to do a pre-college program this summer, but I don't know which ones are 'better' than others. I've been looking into SVA alot, but I also know there's Pratt and Parsons. I'm interested in illustration and fine art (definately illustration). Does anybody have anything to share/reccomend? For those who have taken SVA's or another art college's prgrams, how are they (in terms of teaching)? Is there anything I should know/reccomendations I should have/etc? Any comments or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! :teeth:

I don't know how the pre-college programs compare, but for illustration in general I would definitely recommend SVA over the other two. I'm hardly unbiased, though ;).

I suggest that you check out Max the Mutt in Toronto. The Summer "Learn to Draw " program (also known as the July Intensive) offers 6 hours of instruction a day for 4 weeks, life drawing every morning and 2 weeks of perspective and 2 weeks of Principles of Drawing in the afternoons. You can take the whole program, or 2 weeks. Class size is small and the instructors are top professionals. Tuition is very affordable. Check the web site, www.maxthemutt.com. Info should be posted by the end of January.

:( That sounds very nice, Maxine, but I'm not allowed out of NYC this summer (my parents want something close to home, next year I'm applying for RISD's summer program). I forgot to mention that :^^;:
Thanks, though! I'll consider it next year :^^:

Good luck! I'd be interested in knowing where you go and how it works out. I've seen some great work from graduates of RISD. I get the impression that they are one of the few places that still teaches "old fashioned" traditional skills - and that's what will give you a real career. Have you had a chance to check out our web site?
