Does anyone know when the next event is going to be held in Los Angeles?

Justin.
January 4th, 2007, 11:19 PM
In LA?

... Most of what's going around now next is Italy, and since they JUST had one in San Fran, I doubt they will do another Cali Workshop for a while. My guess would be a Seattle one, or an Orlando one or something.

i think Jason said they would never do an East coast USA workshop. But yea Italy will be next and who knows after that. hopefully north america somewhere so i can go again :)

why not east coast ??

I really wonder =)

Justin.
January 5th, 2007, 06:18 AM
No offense, but there aren't nearly as many members here from China who I think are willing to go, to majority are in Europe and North armerica, and quite a bit in Australia. Though there are some awesome Asian artists, I'd tend to think that would be going a bit out of bounds for most people...

January 5th, 2007, 06:21 AM
(I hope)There could be one someday in Australia, which could cater for artists in the Oceania area too (although that's very unlikely based on previous requests for financial reasons for MB i suppose). But that's besides the point, don't want to derail the thread!

January 5th, 2007, 07:09 AM
this is meant to be a learning trip anyway and basing it somewhere away from what you guys are typically used to would be interesting. a chinese temple in north-western china, or in tibet. maybe in bangkok, thailand. or 1 of the small islands of indonesia.

January 5th, 2007, 01:18 PM
No east coast WS, why not? Just curious. Also doesn't MB have a set up in Hong Kong? This might provide an avenue for the hopes of a WS in China -

Well, Conceptart.org is a non-profit Organization. It is pretty much sponsored by MB and US- meaning our turnout to the workshops. I would say that Most of those who attend who are active on the forums barely make it to places like Montreal, San Fran, Prague or Amsterdam (unless they live right close to it), having one in China I think would decrease the attendence Substantially. From the gusto in Jason's typing when urging us to sign up, I assume that they hardly break even, even with attendance packed to the very top.

Layil
January 5th, 2007, 05:06 PM
what he said....

and, we have nothing against the east coast, really... we havent chosed a location for the next north american workshop, so you never know.

:)
in the mean time, get your butts to italy!!

Olof
January 5th, 2007, 06:19 PM
Any info on the Italian one?
I'm getting really interested in this, since I have some cash saved I'd love any info possible so I could see if I can attend :)

Regarding asian WS, I'd believe the cons are more than the pros (costs, language problems contra variety in art). MB and CA maybe isn't that related, but doesn't MB still have their asian office?

if we do an asian workshop it will be either in Shanghai or Bangkok, but you know everyone wants to go to Tokyo. We can look into it at some point...I am not going to do any workshop planning for at least a few weeks...if not march...which means italy will fall somewhere between april and june most likely.

Well just to state this again. If M.B. does choose to hold one in Seattle I would be more thamn happy to supprt you in any way i could including scouting for the event, scheduling...whatever! But no matter where future workshops are held in the U.S. i intend on making them.!!

About my comment with Seattle an whatnot, I was just throwing names out, because they have held one in Austin already, which I think has an Ubisoft and some other studios, but Seattle has Arena Net I think, and more importantly it isn't like a billion degrees.

(almost 90 degrees outside in December/January, even for Florida this is getting RIDICULOUS.) It was colder in Montreal in JUNE.

still can't quite believe it's going to be in firenze...
our school break here is from 1st of April - 16th of April but I won't care too much about not going to school, should it turn out to be after April 16th ;)

jason: If you want to do anything with the ateliers here, let me know, maybe I can organize something. (Angel Academy of Art (http://www.angelartschool.com/) (where I am), Florence Academy of Art (http://www.florenceacademyofart.com), and Cecil Studios (http://www.charlescecilstudios.com)) day of open door, mini workshop with our maestro or whatever. Just get back to me whenever you feel like thinking about the next workshop again ;)

Hey, just jumping on the bandwagon to tell you if you were to hold a WS in Seattle, there's a few great spots for it, including the Washington State Convention Center (http://www.wsctc.com/jump_pages/event_conventions.aspx) right in the heart of downtown, near hotels and food.

Also, I'd auction my left testicle if that's what it took to attend.

Well...can't say any of you are close. It is ASIA. Shanghai to be exact. Super cheap food, super cheap hotels, super cheap taxi's, and more culture than any of us westerners have tasted in years.

Join us. More info http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1326254#post1326254 and will also show up in new threads here in the workshop section.

Look for dates and location information soon.

As much as we had hoped to find the right spot in Italy, the workshop in florence has been delayed until 2008. We were unable to find an appopriate workshop location there currently. We will continue to explore options there. However, we have made the decision to focus on our first workshop in Asia, as mentioned. We have appropriate spaces found easily and it is a much more affordable city to hold an event in.

My heart will always be in Italy though...we will find a way to get it done.

Apparently, you can get cheaper airfare if you act as some kind of "shipping validator", where you actually fly in a mail plane or something. 300 bucks to asia from what I hear. I'm going to look into it.

CouchSurfing.com also might be able to hook people up with somewhere to crash for the duration of the event.

It might not be all that bad, if you calculate it through. Sure, the flight will be expensive from europe or the us, but if they lower the tuition and you consider the low costs of living there - the thing probably won't add up to more than 900 us-bucks, no matter where you're coming from. given, that you're serious about this and there's some time ahead to save the money, i think it's very reasonable for what you get.

Jabo
June 8th, 2007, 10:30 AM
Uh... I don't know what you were dreaming of when you wrote it, but I couldn't find a flight cheaper than 900 € for that time of the year, and considering that we probably won't know the exact date earlier than two months before the workshop, it's quite possible that the total costs of this will rise to about 1,500 (€, that is).

My problem isn't so much the price (been saving money anyway), but the date. If this workshop will be moved to somewhere after July, I can't get the holiday needed to fly (Zivildienst. As much as I'd love to skip the job for some days to go to Shanghai, I'm not willing to go to jail for it). That's why Florence in August sounded so much better than Shanghai in September. So I'm just hoping that the binding date and place will be up soon so everybody can book stuff.

zan9000
June 8th, 2007, 01:13 PM
Florence would have been great. What I don't understand is how why they didn't tell us sooner it wasn't happening, rather then deciding not to go to Florence, then booking tickets to Shanghai, going to Shanghai, then begin to look for another place to host the workshop in Shanghai, then tell us.

Hanuka
June 8th, 2007, 03:26 PM

for end of august/september i found most flights for less than 600 (with taxes and fees like 714) euros total (from frankfurt), and i suppose if you look deeper, you'll find even better deals. and since we're almost mid-june. they got shit ahead as well, i guess if they announced it right now it would be at least 2, 3 months ahead.

ps: i'm in the same shitty situation with my zuvieldienst, but i didnt use any of my holidays yet.

Jabo
June 8th, 2007, 07:30 PM
I haven't used any of my holidays yet too, but since I'm working in a school, I can only have my holidays over the school holidays (which will be over on August 17th this year in Hessen).

I'll check the flights. Which airline did you look up?

Hanuka
June 8th, 2007, 10:21 PM
I checked various options at www.cheaptickets.com and found an aeroflot flight from amsterdam (which, for me, is just as far as frankfurt) via moscow for 592 US-Dollars (with Sep 4th till 13th as flight dates) + tax and fees = 783$... thats somewhere around 587 Euros. I think I even had a cheaper flight, but cant find it right now. It' all a matter of having enough time ahead i guess.

Jason Manley
June 10th, 2007, 01:01 AM
I will have more info on dates soon...we are still looking at spaces...my guess is that it is 3 months minimum as we need time to get the word out it here. Will depend on space availability in the end.

can't wait!

Well - love to come but the cost of flights to shanghai in AugusT is £560, and coupled with tuition fees it'll probably be close to almost a thousand squids (accomadation,food/travel/sight seeing)

So, guess I'm definately not coming this time, and hope to see you all in europe sometimes 2008/9.

Hello! If the workshop will be in Florence 2 to 3 months from now (august/september) I ould love to come! I heard that some agencies offer plane tickets from Romania to Italy for somthing like 10 -20 $, adding up other expences 300 - 400 euros for food, bed and transportation i guess it`s a possibility that you guys could see a lot of romanian CA members in Florence! :yayca:

I have come to share a little bit of news.

We are doing two workshops this winter.

The first will be in Seattle in December. We are scouting locations now. We wanted to choose a place for a truly "winter" workshop and Seattle beat out Minneapolis and New York City for the show. Those in Seattle never saw that coming I bet. :) It is going to be a great show and we are going to pull out all the stops. Expect the big names, the big show, and artists from all over the world attending the Seattle event. Dates and location will be announced soon.

The next will be the Shanghai workshop which is going to be a balance of foundation concept design, 3d modeling, texturing, and animation for the games industry. The China event will be in Feb. We will put out more info soon. If you are looking to have the foundations of your perspective on the world completely shaken, Shanghai will do it. China is amazing.

Jason. Seattle...thank you! I'm local and more than willing to lend a hand getting things set up, scouting or anything else you need. Since insomania I swore i'd make all the stateside workshops but i didn't know the next one would land in my back yard. Let me know and I'll send contact info. Again..thank you!!!

They better lower the fee structure, because its locally based and housing event such as this collectively should be less with the housing market crash now

There is a hostel downtown and possibly a deal could be worked out with the Art Institute student housing. Lots of options. If it stays priced close to San Francisco it should be really do-able.

Feb would be fantastic, especially since that's birthday month for me. ^^ Much thanks, Jason, hope to hear more concrete details in due time.

So is there some kind of direction this thing will take? I mean, demo to demo, booth to booth, drawing to drawing, how are we supposed to get around to everyone? And do you have any idea what kind of time frame we are talking about? 11pm-6am or...just gonna wing it until everyone passes out?

Sigh. I could make it if it was in Dec. but work won't let me off in Jan. And I'm always too broke after Christmas/NewYear's holidays. Grrrrr. I'll have to live vicariously thru the forums and my Insomania buddies :$ I really hope some DVDs can be made!

If we go ahead and buy a ticket (and register), then somehow couldnt raise the rest of the money for flights and hotel, would that ticket be good for another workshop? Or should we just make sure we have all the money to go before buying a ticket? I could probably get the money for a ticket by Nov 1 but not all the money by then.

Jason Manley
October 23rd, 2007, 05:18 PM
Tickets will be refundable until Dec 4. So if you want to book it now you are welcome. That will give you time to get the hotel/flights together. If it goes beyond that you would be welcome to use that ticket for the next workshop as well.
