Hello!! I'm new to painter. :) Could someone instruct me on how to make custom brushes for the pattern tools and custom papers? I've been searching to find the answers online and I'm having quite a difficult time finding something that doesn't require buying a subscription to Lynda.com or something. >:| Any suggestions?

Hi,
In addition the the tutorial mentioned in rogfa's post, My Featured Tutorial in the Corel Painter newsletter, The Painter Canvas November 2006 isssue, named....
Scratching the Surface: An Introduction to Textures in Corel® Painter™ (http://apps.corel.com/painterix/training/tutorial_textures.html?trkid=tpc1106ft)
.... should help you understand some of the ways texture is used in Corel Painter. Among other things that tutorial covers, are a brief mention of brush variants that interact with Paper texture, instructions for creating a seamless Pattern, then saving it as a custom Paper, and the Effects > Surface Control > Apply Surface Texture controls.
For more information on Painter's brushes, John Derry's tutorials should help. Do a search in this forum for all threads started by pixlart (that's John Derry's user name) and you'll find those tutorials and many more he's written for Painter artists.
Also take time to read Painter Help > Help Topics where you'll find a lot of information on Painter's brush categories, brush controls, textures, patterns, and more. Read the chapters starting from the top of the Table of Contents as the chapters are organized to introduce you to things in order from basic to more complex.
Have fun learning!
