Indeedy, 986 posts and over 16 pages of smack talk and obnoxious hooting have led us to this moment. Minamoto no Yoshitsune (源 義経)
(1159 – June 15, 1189)

A legend in Japan, he has been subject to many movies, books, manga, anime and theater performances. Yoshitsune's feat of cutting leaves as they fell from a tree has been referenced many times in Japanese pop culture. In some instances, characters attempt the feat to compare themselves to Yoshitsune. Yoshitsune is enshrined in the Shinto shrine Shirahata Jinja in Fujisawa.

Yoshitsune was a general of the Minamoto clan of Japan in the late Heian and early Kamakura period. His life was a short but tragic, and his skill with a sword is still the standard of high excellence in the Samurai world. Extensive Manga and animes have been created about his life along with the Japanese classics including Akira Kurosawa's film The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail and the great Japanese literary classic Heike Monotogari (Tale of the Heike).

Edward The Black Prince

http://www.alxcote.com/2006/edward_thumb.jpg (http://www.alxcote.com/2006/edward_large.jpg)

Edward of Woodstock (June 15, 1330 – June 8, 1376),
Prince of Wales, effective military leader, and very popular during his life.

(from wiki): Although Edward is almost always now called the "Black Prince", he was never known as such during his lifetime. He was instead known as Edward of Woodstock, after his place of birth. The "Black Prince" moniker does not appear in writing until at least 200 years after Edward's death. Its origin is uncertain; according to tradition, it derived from an ornate black cuirass (piece of body armor) presented to the young prince by Edward III at the battle of Crécy. However, it is also possible that the name was first coined by French chroniclers in reference to the ruinous military defeats he had inflicted on France or his cruelty in these.

Hasan-I-Sabbah
circa 1034
Founder of the Assassin Clan, came to fame when he overtook the Alamut fort in the Persian Mountains, where he became touted as the 'Old Man of the Mountains' due to his religious hermitage inside that very fort for thirty five years.
It is rumored that he drugged men and had them wake in a divine and lush garden, which he told them was a taste of the afterlife, and if they served him he would allow them to die and be sent to that place again-which reasons for the drug Hashish to be named after him as well.

Dunstan ( 909–988 ) was an Archbishop of Canterbury who was later canonized as a saint.
He gained fame for the many stories told about his cunning in dealing with the Devil.
He functions as the patron saint of goldsmiths. The tongs are his symbol.

St Dunstan, as the story goes,
Once pull'd the devil by the nose
With red-hot tongs, which made him roar,

Eric Bloodaxe (Old Norse: Eiríkr blóðøx) (circa 885–954), was the second king of Norway (930-934) and the eldest son of his father Harald Fairhair. Once the power was in his hands, he began to quarrel with his other brothers and had four of them killed, including Bjørn Farmann and later Olaf and Sigrød in battle at Tønsberg. A Latin text describes him as fratris interfector (brother-slayer), and it is entirely conceivable that the "blood" component of his cognomen refers to his propensity for fratricide.

Empress Theodora (500– 548) known as the "Great Papal ".

Roman Emperor Justinian I, he made her joint ruler of the empire, and appears to have regarded her as a full partner in their rulership. A strong-willed woman, she showed a notable talent for governance. In the Nika riots of 532, her advice and leadership for a strong (and militant) response caused the riot to be quelled and probably saved the empire.

"Never was a woman so completely abandoned to pleasure. Many times Theodora [before her "gentrification"] would banquet with ten young men who had a passion for fornication...after exhausting them she would go to their attendants (by now more than thirty) and copulate with them as well in an futile effort to satisfy her unquenchable lust..."

She was commemorated on a saint in the Orthodox Church,

Pili-kaaiea

In Hawaiian mythology, Pili-kaaiea (or Pili-auau) is a chief, called a 'grandchild' of Lana-ka-wai on the Ulu line, but born and brought up in Kahiki. Because the chiefs of (the island of) Hawaii had carelessly intermarried with junior chiefly lines, Pa'ao went to Kahiki to find a relative of pure blood who could compete in rank with the chiefly lines of the other islands. He recites a chant to invite Lono-kaeho to return with him. Lono-kaeho declines the invitation, but sends Pili in his place. Pili becomes high chief and wins the support of the people and he becomes the ancestor of the chiefs of Hawaii on the Ulu line down to the late 19th century.

As there are no written records before the 1700's in Hawaii I don't know the exact date that Pili-kaaiea lived, but it is believed to be around 1100 or 1200 AD that Pa'ao arrived in Hawaii.

Lady Godiva took pity on the people of Coventry, who were suffering grievously under her husband's oppressive taxation. Lady Godiva appealed again and again to her husband, who obstinately refused to remit the tolls. At last, weary of her entreaties, he said he would grant her request if she would ride naked through the streets of the town. Lady Godiva took him at his word and, after issuing a proclamation that all persons should keep within doors or shut their windows, she rode through, clothed only in her long hair.

Albertus Magnus (1193? - November 15, 1280), also known as Saint Albert the Great and Albert of Cologne, was a Dominican friar who became famous for his comprehensive knowledge and advocacy for the peaceful coexistence of science and religion. He is considered to be the greatest German philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages. He was the first medieval scholar to apply Aristotle's philosophy to Christian thought at the time. Catholicism honors him as a Doctor of the Church, one of only 33 men and women with that honor.

(I could have done so so much more, i literally worked on it up to the wire. Procrastination kills!)

Saint Brigid of Kildare (451 AD - 525 AD)

Named for the pagan goddess of fire, Brigid was inspired by the preachings of Saint Patrick and became a nun. She founded a monastery and a school of art and attained the title of abbess. Brigid's symbol is a cross woven from rushes which, legend tells, she gave to a dying man on the roadside to convert him.

...ah, I'm assuming I made the deadline. It's 11:40 where I'm at. If not...I'm sad.

This one of the guys that is behind the Legend of King Arthur. But, the problem is he is not a King. He was actually a commander son of a King. Here is more info on the this legendary character.http://www.legendofkingarthur.com/i/arturius.pdf It is evident that this guy really existed. I just linked mines I don't know how to thumb mines at all and just don't have the time trying to fiddle with it at all. Peace fun contest!

I know there are probably a lot of Lady Godivas, since it's a pretty obvious choice. I haven't checked the rest of the thread yet, but I'd be surprised if this was the only one.

She lived from 990 to 1067.
She accepted a dare from her husband to ride naked across Coventry, in order to win financial relief for her husband's tenants.

yo, 2100 - you're at my Alma Mater!

Sorry internet kept coming on and off yesterday, wasn't able to post.

Mine is based on a famous Icelandic viking and skald named Egill Skallagrímsson. He was born in Iceland in the year 910 and died some time around the year 990. Many historians consider Egill to be one of the deadliest men that ever lived in bladed combat- several accounts tell of him slaughtering as many as 20 or more armed men singlehandedly, and even dispatching a feared berserker with relative ease.
