hi there

i just finished this little image:
http://www.polycount.com/cottages/gekitsu/pimp/sniper.jpg

i posted it here, with the sketches, as it was ~2 hours work in painter 8. i just stopped there, as i felt it being kind of "complete". i didn't go in at 100% zoom and fix details and stuff.

c&c highly appreciated :)

Yeah the pic looks good. Ref for pose? The colour scheme is nice too. The way he's holding the gun does look off though. I don't know all that much about leverage of an arm curled up, but one hand I don't think can hold something that long. Other than that it looks great though.

thanks, gasmask and moose :)

i got a lot of query about the pose and how he's holding the gun.
explanation:
he's obviously not aiming, as he would get to a more camouflaged stance and get support for the rifle. military sniper rifles are rarely semi-auto, because the mechanism would fuck up needed bits of accuracy. so, you have to hold all the recoil yourself. going prone and letting it rest on the bipod makes for enough bang already.

the way he's kneeling and looking implies that he's spotting to get a good overview of the mission area.
one of the usual poses for that is holding the gun grip with the right hand, rising the left arm, bending it completely and resting the gun on the elbow.
if he would fire like that, he would probably get knocked out by the scope.
this was way more clear in the preliminary sketch... while painting, i kind of fucked up... part of his right forearm is covered by the ghillie suit, making everything look quite awkward and mistakeable.

moose, i didn't use ref for anything. obviously, i had an image of a tac-ops bravo 51 in mind when painting the rifle but that's it. :)

Gekitsu, I really like this, but I would like to see you finish it. One thing that bothers me is the hands look like oven mitts. I love the whole scenario, I'd just think that the clouds in the bg could be worked on more, and they also look like they could be an explosion, but if it is, then maybe you'd have to change the pose into a shooting pose, but I don't think thats what you were going for.

I actually like that whole scoping out the scene look, he's got going on. The gun does look unfinished, but its just a sketch afterall. I say finish it. This could turn out to be a great finished piece!
