Due date: Sunday, March 4, 11:59 PM PST (if you can't get something done by this time, you're fired.
Competition details (do this if you want to...some may want to collaborate, others may just want to surprise ya)

You need music that makes you sound like a bad ass (http://gavinengel.vox.com/library/audio/6a00ccff98b75c6ea500ccff8f85c34064.html)
I was considering changing my theme song to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZQWUY33sA0&mode=related&search=) but even some things are too campy for me.

I still here.
I am summoning some 80's cheesy video effects to attack you all with. My first attack is lightning. I choose neon pink instead of blue. I also throw in some bad synth music, remixed so much it sounds like Miami Vice.
Cheers to both the Conan, Doom and Katamari themes. I give them a +5 to defend against cheesy theme music.
redehlert- your music takes so long to play, I think we would have time to rebuild the US/Canada border with Maple Syrup and Pancakes. MMMMM, syruppy goodness and poutine. :)

I actually take offense to that. A good friend of mine is a brewer and his Scottish Ale kicks the living shit out of any Canadian beer I've ever had. BTW, our great state was named after George Washington (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc9y5ayeeb4) and that in itself should instill fear in every Canuck heart.

4)vooodoooo

I like Steampunky Brewster and Voodoo. Sounds sweet. Throw in a Jive turkey or too.
I picked up a book called: "Manga Matrix: Creating Unique Characters using the Japanese Matrix System"
Author: Hiroyoshi Tsukamoto
I would pick one up if your into Character Designer or these ThunderDome events. Good stuff for design, great section on setting up backgound detailed information, or if you like to just wing design, there's some tidbits on that too.
Something to think about:

some more topic ideas;
Metal album cover
Jealousy
High tech low life
Eat and die
Global warming
Cults
Killer Fawn
High 5s
A bad bird.
A bird riding a bird.
A creature’s soul leaving its body in a battle.
Post-apocalyptic Disneyland.
Love from above
I think metal album cover would be awesome. But Steampunky Brewster and voodoo are cool too.

Mainly, R'John and myself are the only ones that try to meet on Sunday's. 2100 may come once in a blue moon.
It's like the last group. That one died too.
There are other groups that meet, but they either go to bars or expensive cafe's .

voodoo or some spiritual kind of art
caniballism
Werewolves,vampires,monster mayhem
redesign of literary character
organic armored vehicles,characters,soda\
epic battle...your choice of era and warriors...
ZOMBIES...just thought of this one...
mock up of rpg game profile(something you'd expect to see in a dungeons and dragons book,or magic,etc...
Astroboy visiting another dimension and becoming...king,moviestar,warrior,theif,drug dealer,A-FED(like K-Fed),gangster,the terminator...:upset: :upset: :upset:

redehlert
February 13th, 2007, 03:44 PM
hey rustikof, let's stick to the guns here:
(Sci-Fi, Classic, or Fantasy)
well....since mythic isn't in the mix above, let's go with the characters we all know and love from any of these genres.
aw hell, ya know what...i really don't care. if you want a mythic creature then go nuts. i'd rather you be animated about creating something and kickin' tail in the process.

bah, personally i think its more of a challenge to spin a classic character than to just make whatever "monster" we can think of, (there are thousands in any d&d enciclopedia), also makes this whole thing more fun cause it requires deciding on estrablished concepts and pushes you to ... whatever, its not my call..

I swear on.. well, pretty much anything you can honourably swear on, that those pants are brown, not green, on my comp, and that most of this appears to me as one black blob to me because my monitor has difficulty telling apart subtle, (or not so subtle diffrences) in colours and I am therefore pretty much painting in the dark, only to find out when I look at another screen that the light is turned on quite bright. It's bloody freakin annoying and is rather frustrating cause when I tried to get the shading back so it appeared on other computers as it does on mine it just messed it up. (yay for layers that can be turned off and on!)
This is more rant than excuse, and because you can't see what I see, just take it at face value. I'm gonna go do some window shopping for computers on the web now. After I post this:

Sounds like you should get a decent monitor first. If you can afford it get a Mac monitor or the next best thing is Sony or Samsung. I use a 19" Sony trinitron for painting and a Samsung as my secondary.

WoooW i totally skipped frankenstein!! Awesome design r'john!
The closeup shot reveals some things though, but the overall design is pretty neat!

thank you very much ronaldK...glad you like...yours is also pretty nice. It's a great take on the monster. I'm always amazed how fishes can create their own light source...
keng-I like it dude. I can understand the monitor problems. At work,I was working on one monitor, and then when I looked at it on my other monitor,it became to light, then I looked at the pic at home, and it was too dark...thats the way it is I guess. Anyway,I really like the extremities getting thinner like a real dog/wolf...

Thanks guys :)
And when I say computer shopping, I mean I'm gonna buy a labtop. I'm thinking Mac Book. And I know colour on monitors is bound to vary, but, well.. when white looks purple and light grey appears as pitch black, that's just to much. Not to mention that one time it turned out my dark green was actually bright neon... Now...
@R'jon: That's deffinately the most mutilated version of frankenstein I've ever seen. I like your use of lighting and nice touch with the details of the weapons lodged into it's flesh.
@Sirio: Nice expressive design. I was a little put off by the multiple eyes at first until I noticed the face coming out of the chest, which tells a good story of how the transformation might work.
@rustikof: Great concept with the magazine cover. All the little headlines are very amusing. I like what you did with the snakes, layering them to look like an arranged hair-do.
@2100: Not a monster I'm familiar with, but I like the texturing you've used on it's plate shell. The skull gives a good sense of scale.
@ronaldk: Wow, you've really stretched the design on this. Lots of good things in this peice. It's nice and clean, and I like the subtlety in the webbing.

Well, I started at 2 this afternoon and finished it about 30 minutes ago. Not my greatest work, but at least I have something to submit. I'll create a separate thread tomorrow morning before I start work for the day. Everyone else has 40 minutes to finish.

Tried to uplink to this page using the concept art manage attachments utility only to discover that this thread doesn't have that utility? Very confused and in panic friend gave me image shack link.
Here's the other Image I did originally... just posting it for fun.

daaang boeeee, d-tran that is friggin sweet dud! good good concept. the legs seem an iitty bit off (his left leg). feels like the weight should be more to the middle. if you want it to lean on it then right feels like its holding same weight. just a thought.
also the ankle threw me off a bit.
other than that, awesome coloring skillz and as i said pretty neat design!
-kudos!

So i had this brilliant idea to start over last night since i was so not feeling my other fly piece........i have learned my lesson to not ever do this again when the deadline is so close!

Damn, some real nice submissions here people!
ok, lessee.
Rustikof: Man that was clever, made me laugh dude, and as said the headlines add even more to it :)
2100: Dig the rendering and atmospherics, youve really made it look like a large ass monster crab :)
Keng: Dont be so hard on yourself! I dig the stance you gave the werewolf and the fact you actually left him with some remnants of clothing. :)
Ronald: Hey man turned out great, really dig the lights on this sucker, really makes him seem like a deep sea monster. Original take. :)
Undertow: Frannkenstein with tits? Oh man this is good, dig the patchwork feel on mr. frankie, and the fact it looks like this frankie is one agile and dangerous guy. :)
Dtran: Damn that fly looks like and evil bastard :O Really dig that thick torso, makes him look alot more menacing, quite a different approach to insect based characters, but it works, of course rendering is real sweet too. :)
Monde: Hey man that hydra thing turned out interesting, really like how it looks like it could be out of an animation the way you rendered it. Good stuff mate. :)
So after counting up the entries:
Seems like the following dudes went MIA (The heck did you guys run off to?)

I did it the old fashioned way like everyone else did. I don't think he did, unfortunately he wasn't available to fix any snafus with that regard.
