Hey everyone, its almost 5:00 am, and I started playing around with this piece just to relax a few hours ago, while taking a break from just finishing an airbrushed illustration.
I drew a doodle a couple of days ago, but I wasn't really thinking of doing anything with it...but today I started messin with it, supposedly just to get some practice and to get more acquainted with painter, but the more I worked on it, the more I got into it...well, I don't know if it's because the sun will be out soon, or because I've been working on it for about 4 hours straight, but I'm not sure if I should keep working on it to make it a finished piece, or leave it as it is and put it in the "studies" folder.
I would say I'm half way done to the way I want it to look when it's finished, but I look at it and I can't make up my mind if it's a good piece or not...one of the reason for this is because this is not really my style...I'm experienced in very realistic looking paintings....do you have any comments? is it worth it to keep going?, do you have any suggestions?....if it sucks you can tell me...

those are great shapes!
the colors give quite a punch, too.

the hair could be a _tad_ too busy. maybe grouping the strands into groups of similar value and subordinating the colors as they are now to that could help unifying it a bit more.

i like it, looks very ornamental. i could imagine this one as a huge poster on my wall or on a cd cover, as well as in a website design.
i think it's too nice to drop it completely. :)

Cool. It's definitely worth finishing.

It's hard to tell whether something is working or not when you've been at it for a long uninterrupted stretch. The best thing to do is put it aside for a while so you can look at it with fresh eyes.

Personally, the only thing that really bothers me is the choice of background colors. I don't think the warm grays work with the yellow or with the face/hair. Keeping the background in the same red/orange/yellow family as the rest of it would emphasise the mood you already have in the face. If you feel you must have that gray in there, reverse it so that the more intense colors halo the face and go gray as they move away from it.

It looks cool so far victor! I also say you finish it. Flesh out his face, and like gekitsu said to group the hair strands.

One thing I think that you could really mess with is the wood pillar thing in the middle, I would make it look like its carved out of wood and really ornamental, and bring some of that carved wood look to the face.

Keep this one going! :)

Well, I guess the verdict is to keep going...thanks for the comments guys, and I.was.ink, I love that idea about making the wood pillar....I'm gonna use it!

I keep imagineing a small apocolyptic city in ruins in the background for somereason, and people bowing down to the giant heads...wierd. But love it, but I think you should make the heads more attached to the middle pillar, they look like the only way they are attached is by their chins. Good Job!

since the faces are mirror images of each other, the highlights and shadows have also been reflected, implying two distinct light sources. is this intentional or something you plan to work with?

hey behemoth, as a matter of fact, I do plan on leaving the light source.....or I should say sources....as they are...I think it gives it a very unnatural feel with the mirror effect that wouldn't be the same if I changed it to having only one light source.
Incognito, I love the idea of having people bowing down to the giant heads....especially because it is my head but if only they would bow down in real life. In the painting I want to keep it somewhat simple, symmetric big triangular shape, and the reason there is sort of a gap in the middle, is because I'm not done with that section, that is just the rough idea of what I'm goint to paint in there....sometime soon....

this is a really cool extreme pose and I agree with everyone else that you should finish it. I think I.was.ink said something about this, but this really looks like something carved, like maybe the decorations on a column or something. But that could just be the triangular composition having it's way with me :) I almost like the single face composition better, it is really powerful, but I'm sure whatever you do will look great as long as you keep on doin whachur doin. Thanks for sharing, laterz

Hello Sepulveda!
Haven't replied to you yet, so welcome aboard! Didn't you got published on a spectrum by the way?

well now to your pic.
Very ART NOVEAU, I like it! it much more a Graphic design pice than a stand alone illustration, but that isn't reallly the point here.
for some reason I see it very much like a Magic Card of some kind. If you change it to a cooler colour it would be a perfect blue spell. Ok I am rambling here so just finish the picture!

So no go on the bowing people? dang, still though...that would be cool...and a laser coming out of your mouth that is burning one of the people. With giant wooden giants climbing buildings in the background...sorry, got carried away...but still nice drawing...very realistic.
