Like the title says....

I am brand new to zbrush, and have no idea where to start. After about an hour of clicking around I cant seem to get the brush to act the way he did, any help?

thanks

-in a new document, create a plane using the 3d plane tool (under tools)

-resize your document so that it scales down correctly in photoshop.

-turn off texture and set color to flat.

-select the decobrush and match that with any alpha and start playing around..

-export to photoshop and start layering/reflectiong with the overlay tool.

a few things he mentioned was using brushes from anything. for example he had a section of an engine. zbrush will recognize custom psd files from photoshop imported as alphas. work in values to create depth and he was also adding random red spots to inspire images.

i have been playing around with it, that demo was pretty awsome.

What stroke and brush are you getting the best results with? I am having trouble finding one that works with quickly switching alphas. Having to readjust the brush and stroke each time I switch shapes is killing my work flow.

i had the same problem as u guys before. i can home hella juiced to play around w zbrush thinking that i had rememberd it all but once i opened the program i went blank. luckly someone else i know caught it and told me what to do. as far as the strokes go i have not played around w those too much so i cant help u there, i usually just leave that setting to whatever it was on but plz if u find anything interesting post here.

here are some thumbnails i did using his technique
i made a white document in photoshop, and imported it into zbrush.

then i made about 100 custom alphas to use then created a lot of these.
Here are some of the first ones i created.

i used all default settings except make sure you material is set to white and yo dont have a texture on. Then just experiment with the strokes they all do unique things

Any likelihood the Android Demo was recorded? I took a semester of Zbrush and I still don't know what you're talking about.

Near as I can tell you started painting directly on canvas without making a 3d object. I'm use to just using Zbrush as a 3D editor.

NOTE:
create a plane using the 3d plane tool (under tools)
Tool ==> DecoBrush
Alpha ==> Choose your perferred alpha mask
Stroke ==> ?
Texture ==> Texture Off
SysPalette ==> Set Color to Black for thumbnail type presentation

Eventhough I might be able to guess, what was Androids explaination for doing thumbnails in this manner?

Some of arechiga_tony thumbnails look symetrical as well. I forgot how to activate the symetry on the Zbrush canvas?

Was there a certain Stroke Tool recommendation? It seems a lot of the shapes are strongly determined by what stroke tool you have activated.

You know, I think he told us this was actually the first time he had used Zbrush for this technique haha.

Why do thumbnails in this matter? Because it was 'easy' to create interesting shapes in a very short amount of time using Zbrush perhaps?

After the first shapes done in ZBrush he then exported it to a PSD, that's where the symmetry comes in - duplicating and flipping the canvas, maybe on darken or lighten layer modes and then (ctrl+shift+c?) to copy both layers when he found a shape he liked.

Here is a quick one I started to take through to render. I didn't really finish my thumbs cause I looked at that shape first and instantly had a vision of this in my mind.

Still working on the final paint....

Thanks again Android for just laying your stuff out on the table like you did, you really care about the art form and it shows.

Quotes to live by, thanks Android!

Here are some samples I made in ZBrush after watching the demo.
