Hi everybody!
It´s just a sketch about a dragon I draw a couple of days ago.
now it´s time for a little sleep, but tomorrow I´ll continue the thread.
thanks for watching, and hope you´ll enjoy it. crits and comments always welcome.

From this stage, I can barely identify the head and limbs.
Keep up the good work~

well, I like all the previous steps people do of their work; from the very first line to the image where they finally could tell they have finished at last.
I love all the investigation behind and the chose of posibilities...I know it could sound weird, but sometimes it´s more inspiring than the final image itself.
If not, looking at the entire pocess from top to bottom could be helpful when you get stuck, and you don´t know what to do next. couldn´t it?
So here is the little process behind this, hoping it made me know where I´m going.

I´ve thought that lowering the point of view could increase the sensation of defenselessness of being threatened by something that can easily crush you.
By time, the bigger the creature apears, the more scary will result, so as the cats do, I´ve tried to make the dragon expand to it´s maximum size, to tell the rest of the world that it is THE big and scary one.

I like your design process, very interesting. Dragons are tough because they're doen a lot so anything that helps you come up with an original design is cool in my book!

Trying to get an enviroment that fits in here, I´ve come up with this one. I think it could more or less work fine. what you think?

@elpez: I really like the style and look, it's definitely out of the ordinary. Maybe add a little more drama, right now it looks a little like hes standing on a road screaming his lungs out on a couple of trees while doing a scary pose, i did a quick overpaint with some suggestions:

true man, you are completely right.
thanks by pointing out.
it´s my fault, I get so involved in getting a nice enviroment, that I just forgot about showing the other character to balance the drawing.
I´ll post some studies of her right now!

i love this one, but a different angle on the dragon thing may make it a little more intimidating? like having him face just a little more towards the viewers?
also i think elpez is right, lowering the view point would also bring around some more monstrous features.
heh just ideas, i don't mean to change your whole picture :)

You know, yesterday night I realized I was doing a bad work by drawing and thinking all the parts of the picture one at a time on an isolated way, and I was going to have problems by putting them all together when the time comes.
So I convinced my self to refresh the whole thing and start all over again. I did some sketching and I think I´ve found a better pose and a nicer composition.
I´m gonna polish it a bit and I´ll update it later.

well, this is how it looks right now.
I think it turned out pretty good, maybe it´s time to drop some colors into it.

Is this creature inspired by pokemon?

I think its really quite cool. I like your dragon concept and I think the composition is looking much better. There's a lto of depth to the dragon with its proportions and foreshortening. Is there a way you could carry that to the girl as well? The scene it self reminds me of something Frazetta might do, he had a lot of cowering damsels, maybe you could take a look at the poses he uses for his heoines?
I ilke the attitude of the dragon, espescially the twist on the head as he examines the woman. Really cool!

I really like the dragons "gonna getcha" attitude.
though something about the girl just isn't complimenting to the picture. well whatever what would i know.
I really do like the new angle you took. it gives the creature more of a intimidating stance, although I'm not to keen on the claw on the right.
great stuff and cant wait to see this finished :)

Thanks guys, seems that you´ve just hit it right. The girl is not working well, I´ll try to follow your advice bloodpatone, and search in Frazetta´s (love that man) work to get some clues for this.
And that claw is another weak point, you were right briannewman. It came from a previous stage, and it stayed as flat as that. I´ll try to get it more tridimensional.
I´ll rework those things, but in the meantime I´ll leave you with a color skecth I´ve been thinking of.

the color layout is a bit awkward, but i'm sure it's going to look a ton better once you start to actually paint this piece. i was wondering if you were going to redraw the lady or remove her completely?
i think it would be a shame to remove her completely.

I´ve been changing some things and here´s a little update.
Yeah, the girl stays, I just change the pose because the previous doesn´t look fine. she´s the balance of the picture, and I can´t imagine it without her.

Nice changes, the girl definetly has more of a frazetta fell. maybe she'd too relaxed now? Of course that might make for a more interesting story...

Thanks for the Frazetta sugestion, now she had the feel I wanted her to have.
I´ve been trying to get some initial colors right, I´ll leave you with them.

New update. I´ve change the mood a little and now the scene it´s at night. I´ve decided to make the scene darker playing with the colors and the nature of the dragon, reshaping this and that...
Maybe it could have lost a bit of spontaneity compared with the previous post, but I´m quite happy with the results and I think it´s on it´s way to get finished.
Hope you´ll enjoy it.
cheers

The only thing really jumping out at me is that the girl is missing her left shoulder. Without it, it makes her look disproportionate.
The geometric shape effect you have going for grass is pretty cool, it's unique and allows the rocks to blend in with them.
And you get plenty of coolness points for an original dragon design. :)
