I just got painter 8. I've been using painter 6 for quite some time I never bothered going to 7. I was pretty turned off at first but I'm warming up to a lot of the new stuff. I like the impasto oil brushes here's my first doodle using them- I'd love to see what brushes and techniques other people have discoverd in the new painter-

cheers

great stuff John...hey are you the guy from rustedfaith.com?

I have have always been a fan of the digital water color from 6.. they sort of moved it over to vs. 8 "notice now they have Water Color, digital water color"...Im not sure how you dry the canvas.. or what the deal is with that.. so I just work on a seperate layer, and when I get it how i want it I merge llayers.. I downloaded Don Seegmiller's brushes and textures that were for painter 7 and put them into painter 8.. he has some fun stuff.. its worth a look see.

I'll have to give the oils a try.. I played around with the guache, but I wasn't too enthusiastic about it.. *shrug*

good luck,

Very impressive! You have great strangle-hold on detail, at least the ones you mean to include. I feel robbed as this is only the first time I've seen your work. The creature is very original as well.

I guess if I were to offer a crit, it'd just be that the teeth, skin on the face and little beard-dreds look a little flat aside from the impasto effects. I think the software effects are kind of deteriorating what would otherwise by more great depth suggestion through the skillful shading I see everywhere else in the piece...Of course I feel like an ass offering a crit someone which such obvious tallent as yourself...and especially since you never asked...poop.

Anyway, I'm in awe. Great work and thanks for sharing. It's always cool to see creepy looking monsters, especially when their so well done.

P.S. If you don't mind me asking, what brushes did you use and how did you have them set? I gotta get me some of that.
