Hello! I love looking through sketchbooks and seeing how much people improve over time, so I thought I'd start one as well.

I'm going to try and post in here as often as possible, hopefully forcing myself to work on environments (yuck) as well as people. Critique is always welcome.

Thanks, guys! Your kind words are really encouraging. :) As a New Years Resoultion/Personal Challenge, I'm trying to do at least one study a day- hopefully to help make up for all the times I wasted NOT doing them because I thought they were boring...bah. I guess this applies to other things I never draw (animals, environments, cars, buildings, ect..), but their time will come.. someday.

I'm really proud of the hand in the middle... I'm sure the shading makes no sense, buuuut.. I still like the way it turned out because I have such a problem with hands. And there's a little completely inaccurate self-portrait in the corner. I swear my eyes actually look the same directions, haha.

I was wondering where all that improvement suddenly came from till I noticed the dates. Those last still lives look excellent, although at times the shapes are a little weird (to me), for example on the items on top in the first one; they feel wrong somehow? Similary with the vase/glass in the second one, specifically at its base; if you flip this image you can see what I mean though.

I'm interested to see where the first piece leads. I like the figure at the top a lot. A lot of improvement between these posts - did you keep up those daily studies as your 2007 resolution? I'm actually trying to do the same for this year, haha.

Haha, yeah, I know what you mean. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do about the little doodads at the top, since the parts of the observation have since scattered to different parts of the school. I'll try and fix the second one, though.

I didn't, unfortunately, though maybe I can cheat and say I did for the second half of the year... although it doesn't really count if it's for class. Good luck on your resolution!! Hopefully you can be more dedicated than I.

Nice figure drawings, i like your rendering too.
My only advice would be to try to draw some anatomy too, i'm seeying lots of drawings from life but no 'muscles & bones'.

I really like your artwork. I too must admit to the environmental challenge. It is difficult for me too. If you look at my artwork you would notice that I don't do anything... or for some very little back ground work.
