very very good,
great sense of structure
and weight, even without the values on the
figures they have a great feelin of volume.

good work

Brilliant. Very nice stuff !
I think only problem is with the last two: girl's head somehow doesn’t go well with her body which is less cartoony than the face itself .
That’s just my opinion ;) .

P.S.-- 2nd one 's my favourite.

tight stuff man, you've really got your own flavor, i definatly dig how you capture a believeable likeness (so i think) while still making it look illustrative. do you work as a caricature artist during the summer?? if not you should check it out, i really think you'd fit the bill

keep up the good work man

If your art were to take some sort of physical manifestation it would be a huge arse kicking nuclear powered robot with a bigger than god railgun and a ghetto blaster.

Guild nav: don't forget the oreo cookie and milk dispenser, no arse whooping robot is complete without one, *especially* if he has a ghetto blaster.

Cool!
Those have gone directly to the "isric" folder i´ve since sinjun times... :D

i see something wrong in left leg of the last one. it should be pushing the muscles of the right leg since they´re crossing together...

And in the above´s one ribcage looks to small to me, but they´re all nice..

just toughts.
well done

Isric,

Tight as always man. Love the first two, and the last two. You have a great attention to like, and the scale of your figures are as great as the expressions.

Keep postin' :D

I like them a lot as usually. Very expressive. It's nice to see something more towards realism from you for a change, meaning the last two nudes. As a crit for them I would say that the hands aren't as succesful and eloquent as e.g. in the first two sketches. Thanks for sharing.

I like the more realistic faces your doing on the figure pieces, the super stylized stuff is ok for animations, but as far as illustration goes, you should keep exploring the stuff your doing on those last 2 pieces.

The girl at the bottom-centre of page#2 is seriously amazing. Like, awe-inspiringly wonderful in the way that you can capture so much feeling and life in such a small, quick sketch. You have the greatest lineart style to grace this ugly planet, and I wanna thank you for making things less ugly.

Isric
July 11th, 2003, 12:22 PM
Well a big thanks to all the nice remarks. They're really appreciated. I won't adress every response, but I just wanted people to know I'm grateful.

darkcult - those sorts of incongruencies have always plagued me. My love of the animated sometimes battles with the nesseccity of realism.

I.was.ink - I used reference for the nudes, yes. I can't seem to find the pictures I used though, otherwise I would post them (not that I want to, people would begin to understand just how liberal I can get)

siskol p - that would be fun. I've gone down to the park downtown to draw people, but for the most part they don't know it.

Cinsev - I'll see what I can do about that serious issue

Guild Navigator - now THAT is a comment. Thanks a lot, that should go in the book (not that I have a book, something would seem subtly wrong about that)

Jaku - thanks for the advice, that makes a lot of sense. One thing I've started trying to do is leave the reference behind and start drawing stuff people know should be there (or that they want to know should be there). That would really work. And that's freakin cool that you have an Isric folder.

Koro - good to see a somewhat familiar face. Thanks

Rhomb - thanks, I've been trying to slowly develope a more realistic style for whatever projects require it. I'll always be an animation style guy, but I think it's valuable to be able to pull realism out of my arse once in a while.

Grooveholmes - you just cannot get enough long necks. glad to oblige

Rusty - my distinct pleasure. as a non-animator that wants to draw like an animator, your compliments are like gold.

Davi - thanks mate

kimchee - haha, yeah, the disney helictopter just follows me around all day, just dropping stuff on me every now and then. Seriously though, more than anyone else I'm most looking forward to seeing what my relationship with disney will be.

Landmate - thanks, like I said earlier I'm trying to develope a realistic style that I can use every now and then when the need arises. but I'm pretty sure I'll always be more on the stylistic side. Your comment actually encouraged me to start plowing through the life drawing again, so thank you very much

Irate customer - thats a reasonable request, I'll try to add more bodies (I need to anyway, I'm realizing more an more what I CAN'T draw, so it's time to push myself)

maldrin - well that's quite the honor, getting your first post. Thanks. 'Close to the top' is a major compliment too, I don't know if I'd go that far but it's definitely appreciated.

Lukias - good to hear from you, thanks a lot

Cinsev - you agian!? But no, that's cool that my drawings make you want to draw, cause that means they're working on some level, which makes me quite pleased. I know there are a few people here that do the same thing to me, so I understand what a compliment that is,

brasshorsekiller - we meet again. calling my style beautiful makes it all worth while. When I was very young someone once told me (after I had drawn some severed eye with a needle in it) that to draw ugly is easy, beauty is a challenge, and I've been trying to head in that direction ever since. so thank you very much

Ant4d - sorry, I'll stop

I can't say thank enough. the encouragement I get here helps me keep motivated to push myself.

Well, i finished the summer sketchbook. I'll go back and scan a few of the better pages (and the good crappy pages) to post later. For now, these are a couple selections from my new book. there are about....5 more pages or so, but i'll upload them tomorrow.

I drew this one the day after I looked through Joy Ang's sketchbook at school (i'll get a link for you soon, angelofjoy.com seems to be down). It just blew me away. She brings new meaning to 'clean linework', and her ability to render the human body made me realize....holy crap, i've just been drawing heads. So yeah, this is my attempt to redeem myself a little bit.
http://rhodes.design-culture.net/images/s-35.jpg

Inspired by music. The kids on the top were 'Where is my mind' by the pixies, and the guy on the bottom left was 'Don't let money change ya' by Blackalicious.
http://rhodes.design-culture.net/images/s-36.jpg

Another attempt at redeeming myself. I drew the head (at random), and realized I was coping out again so i forced myself to draw a body. I used my body for reference, reflected in a glass cabnet at work. After the pencil was done i went back in with some prismacolor greys.
