This is a piece of fanart I did for a fantasy series I just got into. The first book is called "A Game of Thrones" by George R. Martin. I strongly recommend this book and all of the ones that come after it. Its great reading if you like the fantasy genre.

Depicted below is my favorite character, John Snow, leaning on the trunk of a Godswood. An ancient culture known only as "the children of the forest" carved strange faces into the trees to give their gods a way to keep watch. The red sap of the trees gives the impression that the eyes are bleeding.

I used a grass brush and a leaf brush because I am not experienced with plants. Everything else I did without "cheating." I hope everyone enjoys the pic. C&C welcome.

I think the biggest problem is that the BG is absolutely flat, and there is no sense of depth coming through. The leaves of the tree are also very blurry compared to grass, it's very distracting.

Yeah... like I said, I'm not very experienced with plants, and that brush was all I had to work with. If anyone has a tree / other plant life tutorial that would be absolutely awesome.

Thankyou for the pointers though. I'll work on keeping everything equally crisp on my next post. I can see how the blurred leaves in combination with the very detailed grass and tree trunk can be distracting.

Really? I thought that was only the ones north of the wall... Huh.

I just finished "A Game of Thrones." I hope to start "A Clash of Kings" tonight.
