No offense, but it's getting kind of boring to look at the same posts from one month ago.

Indeed, where has all the life gone from EOW? It almost seems like it was abandoned, but I know people keep checking back for new challenges.

I check the activity overview daily and it is sooo lame, that the EOW has entries from long ago and nothing is changing. Hello someone, please kick up a new topic, something to get the show going again. May I suggest a sci-fi environment with plenty of tech?!!!

whoow, what happened to EOW? o_O
Sad seeing it degenerate this way.
I personally am just too busy at the moment to participate... :/
But the right topics would attract some peeps maybe.
miss the good ol' times. :yayca:

Why don't we jump on the Character or Creature band wagon. Wait till they are posted and pick which one you would like to create a enviro for?

There's that five star "Post Your Environments" thread just a little scroll downward in the Community Activities level of the forum. Here's a prequel idea for the tech fans:
The offworld colony where the Blade Runner replicants jumped a shuttle.

So someone take over .... Not it!

I can take over if the artists desire it. Since I don't draw, it's about time I contribute besides feedback and voting.

Cool Vulgar, that would be great! Try contacting the board and let them know. The EOW thread NEEDS to continue, please!

Yeah EOW has been stagnating far too long. The themes are often set too complicated or too sloppy and open-ended. Add some more mainstream, it helped the COW a lot and it has been up running ever since that. I'm making enviros solely, but the themes of EOW never seemed to be interesting enough.
Something like "Jungle Ruin" or "Mountain Fortress" might help EOW get back onto it's feet. My 2c.

yeah funny how EOW suffers the most out of all the activities..

The environment is the very foundation for concept art. Otherwise you just have a bunch of characters going around on a white page or a blue screen. Can you imagine The Matrix if the entire movie was Morpheus talking to Neo in that blank white construct program?
Like, come on Morpheus, can't you at least whomp me up a recliner to sit in? WTF?

I'm getting started, and new to the board, so my two cents aren't much. But I would like to see some new topics so I can work on what I see as a weak area in my little bit of experience.

Vulgar: sweet dude - you don't really need any mod priveleges as I think you can post and even set up polls already. You will of course need to keep track of the time frame, post all final entries in the poll and decide which if any entries are inelligible. Can't wait dude!

Thanks Vulgar, I really want to start drawing for EOW, I'm just waiting for a cool theme.

Vulgar, have you contacted someone? When is this thing going to get started up again?

I've hosted tournaments before, but not for art - short stories and poetry. I don't think contacting anyone is necessary. I'll follow the format of the previous EOW moderator with a topic. I don't have a home computer yet, I'm saving up to buy it by the end of January. The only time I get onto the internet is at the local library, so I'll set up the thread, the artists do their thing, and I'll put it up for voting.
Sound like an airwave?

Is there going to be a new topic sometime soon? Sure hope so. And can anyone get together with the COW administrators and get an EOW star going? That would be an extra incentive!

I hope Chaos is fine, it's been a while and we haven't heard anything from her, so I guess someone else needs to take over until she is back.

I would really love to see EOW become a vibrant regular weekly event again.
This is just my two cents but maybe on the final poll of the images each week there could be also another poll of suggestions for the following weeks topic.
And the topic with the most votes becomes the next weeks EOW.
Also I think the EOW topics should buy into what a lot of people on these forums like drawing, as a lot of us work on very restricted briefs during the day and would like to see more fun topics.
Ie: Warlord's Fortress. Biohazard Containment facility. Abonded mine. Haunted Graveyard. Mountain labratory.
Or more descriptive ones : A Uninhabited city after a virus made the population turn on each other.
An abandoned Zoo where a mad doctor experimented on people and animals.
Open to interpreation where it could be scifi , fantasy whatever.

Gaius- those are quite cool ideas, I think I'd be up for drawing some of them, even though I'm not that keen on enviros...
Can anyone tell me what happened to Chaos? My guess is that she had some kind of breakdown... Or perhaps she won the lottery and doesn't care about EOW no more?:)

to start with
many of the se topics are totally ....trite
in the box
Warlords fortress? damn .... look through the old topics don't ant of you want to draw some thing that hasn't been done 1000 times before???? how abotyu thinking in new directions?
so many of these things are trite and tired...
I have been trying to pushed to boundaries in neew directions....
oddly the open ended topics have been well recievedbut I would really love to see some new directions. The last topic I left you with "Minature city" was Wide open and yet it seems that very few could see the possibilties in this.
we'll see

My theory is chaos has been hiding for 10 days waiting for somebody to take over her burden. And now she plays angry to save her honor but in fact she's happy someone can do it for her ;)
Just kidding.
Chaos, no need to panic - EOW is yours and nobody's trying to take it from you. Me and purplerose decided world need EOW and wanted to help reviving EOW. Due to our agreement next topic is her but since you're back our agreement is valid no more, I guess. But it would be kind of you if you let purplerose make next topic if she still wants to.

Hah! "Fuckers"...
Hideyoshi said it best (sorry to call you out): the artists who participate and rock the house in EOW are just too busy. EOW suffers the most because the mainstays aren't engaged as much as say COW or CHOW... it's all about audience participation. I've seen it time and again where the energy ramps up to a fever pitch just because a few folks get involved and get everyone else motivated. That's one reason anyway...
Another is that anyone who's done an environmental concept knows that they're a Super Bitch. Characters and Creatures aren't easy, but with a little backstory and a motive, it's one figure on a blank sheet of paper. A whole entire world? That's something else. It's a little overwhelming for someone to just pick up pen and paper and say "Gee, I think I'll design an entire civilization's idea of what architecture and function should look like." That might sound like a cop-out to some people, but I'll bet deep down in their nay-saying little hearts that they agree just a little bit.
I don't honestly know what will generate interest in EOW. It waxes and wanes, and doesn't really have much of a pattern while doing it. And I don't think it has shit to do with a topic either, because I've seen some awesome topics come through with maybe 5 participants, then next week "Lonely Castle" pops up and you get about a thousand entries. It's about time and the necessary motivation individuals have to do a project. I'm as guilty as anyone for not having the time or energy, and I'll wear my hypocrisy all day long on a clever t-shirt. I have to take responsibility for the success of this thread just as much as anyone.
Just one man's opinion.

Well said Corrick. I'm guilty of the "no time" cop out as well. Recently forcing myself to pick up a pencil everyday to just doodle has helped me make time to draw.
Maybe EOW can be extended a few days to help out? Because, like you said, Environments are a bit tough to crank out sometimes, especially when you aren't really motivated.

August 10th, 2007, 03:02 PM
Corrick- you're making a good point. I'll just add that this is why 3CH is the least popular of the activities- because it combines creating worlds like you said and characters(often very weird characters) in one drawing for which people have 7 days to complete!Out of pure laziness they choose to go for other activities where the focus is just on one element.
