Hello,

This is my first post on the CA forums. I've been lurking for a while but have been too overwhelmed by some of the awesome talent on here to join up and post. Today I finally got up the courage to post a couple of things.

At the moment I'm working through Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. I'm trying to improve my realistic drawing and proportion, so I'll start off by posting some of my work from the book. All took me around the 3 hour mark...yes, I work very slowly :)

1.) Profile drawing of a woman's face - from life
2.) Copy of "Proud Maisie"
3.) Copy of a Leonardo da Vinci sketch
4.) 3/4 view of woman's face - from life

C&C much appreciated. Sometimes I'm working on a drawing for too long and can't see what part I have gone wrong with.

hi and welcome dude^^

if you want to draw realisti a tip that worked well for me was to just take photos and draw them.

also try to draw young people, if you draw old people it will verry easy get characteristic without you knowing it untill its to late.

all you really need to do is practice

Here is a self-portrait that I did today, about 5 hours. C&C please.

Lotet: Thanks for your advice, I think I will use photos for reference instead of people until I get faster. My models at the moment have been very patient!

Id say start a sketchbook and just throw all you doodles in it.. it will let people see what your missing and what your good at and its a good way to keep you motivated
oh and i think the work is overall good but there might be some porportion issues (*edit i think the ears are the only issue they dont seem to be on the same level as the rest of the drawing) but the seelf potratit is the best and very spot on though i dont know what you look like.

Hi DiMb, thanks for your feedback. Seeing the SP the next day I agree with you, the ears are definitely off...they need a bit more work, they look pretty jagged actually. Thanks for pointing that out. I started up a sketchbook so I'll put my stuff in there from now on. Though for some reason I don't have a signature option so I can't link to it :(.
