what do i have to do to the background to "fix" it? I'm looking fer crits here

You have a nice character there. I think the problem you have to fix would be the perspective.
You need to get that right first. Remember the horizon is always at the eye level. Judging from the ground and the background, it would be at the level near where her hand is. Right now the angles don't seem to make much sense.
Read out more on the principles of perspective. I think it will help you greatly.

I like the concept, and the details you put in the figure and the wolf show a lot of thought.

Again, the perspective issue of the ground is bothersome. Another minor point about the rendering is that the row of columns in the background seem to be rendered sharper than the figures and the floor in the foreground. You lose the main focus a bit that way.

the lip piecing on th ewolf is cool!
I find it disturbing that it is a bit out of focus, I don't know if you did this on porpuse, but both the girl and her ride should be the viewers focus. I think you can fix it by upping the contrast, and using smaller and harder brushes.
